Forgeron is now Diecast!
Hi folks,
When I wrote the welcome page for this Patreon, I included a joke that said "if you have a better name please let me know" because it was 2 AM and I thought it was funny, and would be a good way to preempt any complaints about the name (which means "Blacksmith" in French).
What I didn't account for is somebody actually coming up with a better name. And we're not talking slightly better, we're talking "I have been upset at myself ever since for not thinking of it" kind of name. We're talking "oh this works on several levels" kind of name. We're talking "I'm willing to rename the project post launch and break any link to/mention of that already exists" kind of name. That's how good it is, and that's exactly what I'm gonna do.
As such, thanks to the unbelievably clever suggestion from Dennis Creighton, I'm very glad to announce that the-app-formerly-known-as-Forgeron is now Diecast!
And to celebrate, tomorrow (once the dust settles from the rename and I got a chance to make sure I didn't break anything), version 0.4.0 will be released with a whole lot of features including a full UI redesign, dark mode, and much more!
As a result of the name change, there is a small downside: to avoid carrying forward some tech debt and being stuck with the old name, I essentially have to make Diecast a separate app from Forgeron.
As such for iOS users, you'll need to sign up again with a new TestFlight link. On Android, you can download a new APK as usual. You'll then have two apps, so you can delete Forgeron off of your device. Eventually, the old Testflight and Android builds will expire. But hey, this is all in pursuit of a better name! If you haven't used the app yet, then you've got nothing to worry about.
And, you know what, since you've read this far along I'm gonna let you in on a little secret: version 0.4.0 is actually technically out already via the new Testflight/APK link I set up for the download page. If you're not a Patron yet I can't offer much, besides maybe a code for 30% off your first month? The code is SHHHHH because once again, this is a secret so don't tell anyone.
Thank you all for the wonderful support over the past few months, and thank you Dennis Creighton once again for coming up with such a perfect name for this tiny little app.
Now if you'll excuse me, tonight is game night and my players aren't gonna TPK themselves.
Til next time, take care!
