Playnite 10.47 update + Playnite 11 update
Hi everyone,
Small P10 update is now available.
As far as Playnite 11, I unfortunately haven't spent as much time I wanted on it for past two months, mainly because I got sidetracked by Linux for most of that time. I recently announced that I plan to move to Linux in 2026, so I was testing things from both general usage point of view and from Playnite pov, since I obviously want to use Playnite on Linux when I switch.
I won't go into much detail, but I mainly did more research into changes that will be required to P11 after it's done, to make it Linux capable. I also ended up making custom build of P10 that ran better "emulated" under Wine on Linux. But the fact that it wasn't native app caused to many issues when it comes to actually running and tracking games, so I scrapped it. Native P11 version is really the only sensible way to go.
I'm really sorry I didn't manage to release P11 alpha in 2025, it for sure is bigger undertaking than I original estimated. I'm full back on track with it now though. Thank you very much to everyone still supporting the project here, I really appreciate it and happy 2026 to you all!
Josef
P.S. I don't use Arch btw.

Thank you for your amazing work! I was just wondering if, in a future update, you could add merger to episodes of games that show up. So it shows up as a complete game instead of the episodes? (Sam & Max, Tales of Monkey Island, 3 out of 10)
Game merging is planned for Playnite 11. Not sure it will be able to automatically merge episodic games specifically, but manually you will be able to do it for sure.
10.47 has "DO NOT MANUALLY RUN UPDATE FILES DOWNLOADED FROM HERE, ALWAYS USE BUILT-IN UPDATE SYSTEM TO UPDATE PLAYNITE INSTEAD". I usually download the 7z because of the way I have my system organized (Playnite is in C:\Clients). Will the built in updater support my path?
Built-in updater can update any installation. But you can still update using 7z file if you want. That warning is for exe diff files, since we had somebody using those and breaking their installation.
Hey, a native Linux build is an absolutely worthwhile reason for a delay, to me!
Hey, no rush :). I'm glad the Linux gave you a reason to take a break from P11 - we need those after a long marathon. At the same time Playnite is my main blocker from moving fully to Linux. Right now I keep playing on my win10 boot, but hope to just use a vm from new years to catalogue stuff (want to see YearInReview work at least once before kinda abandoning it).
This is so nice to read! I recently switched to Linux (Arch btw... sorry about that) and the only app I'm missing is Playnite. I keep it and my database up-to-date in a virtual machine of my previous Win10 system. I tried Lutris, but it's a mess and it's not actually a personal database of your (in my case "owned") games. Developement seems to have stopped too. I think the idea of Lutris is too big to actually come to fruition. I would argue that Playnite has a unique selling proposition by providing a searchable database across all libraries and locally installed games and emulators. There's Launchbox, but it's proprietary, doesn't support community plugins and... doesn't run on Linux. Therefore Playnite on Linux would be a killer app. I hope all plugins will also be compatible in a Linux version, but that would be a nice extra. Thanks for keeping Playnite alive and kicking!
