Realistic Smoke Overhaul v2.0 — The Diesel Update - FREE
The diesel soot system has been built from scratch, and there are now one-click presets for both tire smoke and diesel. Plus a pile of fixes, including one that was quietly capping tire heat on every single vehicle.
NEW — PRESETS
No more guessing at ten sliders. Two new rows in the app:
LOOK (tire smoke)
Subtle — has to be provoked
Stock — the default
Heavy — smokes earlier and thicker
CHARACTER (diesel)
Clean — DPF intact, a faint wisp under real load
Stock — honest turbodiesel
Worn — tired engine, puffs on every tip-in
Rolling Coal — deleted and turned up
Move any slider and the row switches to "Custom" on its own, so what you
see is always what you're actually running.
REBUILT — DIESEL SOOT
The old model was a bag of hand-tuned terms that saturated almost
immediately — anything above about 2.0 on Coal Response looked identical,
and the physics stopped mattering.
It's now built on one honest idea: a diesel smokes when it's told to
inject more fuel than the air it's breathing can burn.
• Turbo lag is real. Stab the throttle at low rpm and it blows black,
then cleans up on its own as boost arrives — because the model reads
actual boost pressure instead of faking it.
• Cold engines smoke more.
• Cloud Tail is now in SECONDS, so the trail behind you is predictable
instead of a mystery number.
• Every setting on Coal Response now does something different.
ROLLING COAL AT HIGH RPM — AND IN BURNOUTS
A real coal tune over-fuels everywhere, not just off boost, and it dumps
fuel on pedal position rather than on what the engine actually needs.
That's now modelled, and it means two things that didn't work before:
• It keeps blowing black at high rpm on full boost.
• It coals during a BURNOUT. A burnout is an unloaded condition — the
wheels are spinning, so the engine is barely working. A stock tune
stays clean there, exactly as it should. A coal tune doesn't.
Tire smoke and black coal at the same time. That's the whole point.
BUG FIXES
• Tire heat was stuck at a minimum of 22% on every vehicle, always.
The game reports tire temperature in Kelvin and the mod was reading
it as Celsius. The heat bar now actually starts at zero, and hot
tires genuinely smoke sooner than cold ones.
• Adaptive Performance was cutting smoke density by 70% on any PC that
couldn't hold 58 FPS — permanently, even when nothing was on screen.
It now measures against YOUR framerate instead of a fixed number. If
you turned this off because it looked thin, try it again.
• Turning exhaust effects off used to leave diesel trucks with LESS
smoke than having the mod uninstalled, until you respawned.
• Wet roads were producing double water spray.
• Off-road dust faded out far too aggressively when FPS dipped.
NOTES
Your existing settings carry over. Two ranges changed: Cloud Tail is now
in seconds, and Spread's ceiling came down (the old top end only existed
to compensate for the undersized particles, which are fixed now).
Everything here was verified in-game on real vehicles, not just on paper.
Tested against BeamNG 0.39.4.
