Mississippi Blackout License Plate Mod - Free
A complete license plate design mod for BeamNG.drive featuring the official Mississippi blackout tag in three artistic variants with selectable county names.
- *Plain* — The official Mississippi blackout tag: wordmark only, pure black plate, white lettering
- *Magnolia* — Wordmark with the state flower as a separator between the letter and number groups
- *Emblem* — Magnolia blossom alone, no wordmark; a clean, minimalist look
Each variant is available in *84 county options*:
- All 82 Mississippi counties (Adams through Yazoo)
- Random county (deterministic per plate text, so it stays consistent across reloads and multiplayer)
- No county (county line omitted)

Features
- *Real artwork* — The `MISSISSIPPI` wordmark and magnolia blossom are keyed from a photograph of an official 2024 MS blackout tag
- *No texture assets shipped* — Uses the game's stock plate normal map; the mod is pure JSON + three small PNG backgrounds (~43 KB total)
- *Official serial format* — ABC 123 (3 letters + 3 digits), the current Mississippi passenger plate format
- *Works on every vehicle* — Fits any car that has the standard license plate slot
- *Pure black rendering* — Properly black under all lighting conditions, not grey
Installation
1. Extract the `msblackout` folder into your BeamNG mods directory:
- Windows: `C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current\mods\unpacked\`
- Linux: `~/.local/share/BeamNG.drive/mods/unpacked/`
- Mac: `~/Library/Application Support/BeamNG.drive/mods/unpacked/`
2. Launch BeamNG.drive. The mod loads automatically.
3. Spawn any vehicle and navigate to *Parts → License Plate Design*. The Mississippi designs appear in the list:
- `MS Blackout (Random County)` — starts in the list
- `MS Blackout (No County)` — follows
- `MS Blackout - Adams` through `MS Blackout - Yazoo` — counties, alphabetical
4. Select a design. The county name is deterministic per plate text, so the same custom text always yields the same county across sessions and in multiplayer.
Customization
All plate designs are stored as JSON template files in the mod folder:
- `plain/` — wordmark-only variant
- `magnolia/` — blossom-separator variant
- `emblem/` — blossom-alone variant
Each template uses the game's built-in embossed plate font. Plate text is editable in-game via the plate text field—no file editing needed.
Compatibility
- *BeamNG.drive v0.38.6.0 and later* — built and tested on v0.39
- *All vehicles* with the standard `licenseplate_design_2_1` slot (covers every vanilla vehicle)
- *No conflicts* — the mod does not overwrite any stock files
Notes
- County assignment is stable: the same plate text always gets the same county, so multi-player clients see consistent plates
- The wordmark is a custom logotype with interlocking swash tails, not a standard font
- All three variants use the same plate field geometry and font sizing for consistent readability
