Hey everyone!

With the world as it is (as an American, so sorry to literally everyone everywhere) I just needed to step away from the constant speed and work on something I've really wanted to work on - something fun.

Since I was a kid, I've always loved music. I remember getting my first IPod touch with no ability to buy songs, desperately trying to find a way to get music on to my phone so I could listen whenever I wanted. And at the time, the best option was YouTube.

And now, that desire to listen freely comes back to me with force in an age of constant supervision. I'm trying to rely on my phone less, and a big reason why I carry it is because of the endless tunes available at the flick of my finger.

And thus, Tape was born.

What is Tape?

Tape is my recent project under Silent Snow, it's V1.1 of a local music platform that allows you to download tracks and albums from YouTube links or playlists. At it's core, it's a localized replacement to Spotify, allowing you to download all your favorite music via a connection to YouTube with the same benefits of Spotify, smooth track transitions, and a better, customizable AI DJ!

Tape Features

Importing from YT:

The key element of TAPE is it's ability to source tracks from YouTube. In my experience, it can download nearly any public facing video, though there have been some exceptions. You can start downloading tracks from the Import page.

Here, you can input:

• A single link to a single track

• Multiple links to different tracks

• Multiple links to different tracks by the same artist/album

• One playlist link to download all tracks.

For localizing your existing playlists and library, I would recommend creating a YouTube playlist with all the tracks you would like to download, then pulling from the playlist link. This will download everything at once without getting confused.

If you're downloading different tracks from different artists, you can leave the artist and album information blank, you will be able to fill in that data manually after clicking Preview Metadata or after downloading tracks from the library.

AI Dj:

With all due respect to Spotify, in my experience, their AI DJ is... OK at best. With Tape, we've aimed to give you a truly customizable and personalized AI DJ experience. In the settings tab, you'll see options to edit your AI Dj. By default, Tape is configured to mirror the style of DJ Cara from Los Santos Radio in GTA V. Feel free to customize your system prompt, LLM settings, or Eleven Labs voice to your liking!

I would NOT recommend adjusting the OpenAI sampling section. I've done a lot of testing with these values and have determined that the set defaults are the best to receive truly dynamic interaction from your AI DJ without repetitive statements.

In order to use the AI Dj, you will need three things:

OpenAI API Key: https://platform.openai.com/settings/organization/api-keys

Eleven Labs API Key: https://elevenlabs.io/app/developers/api-keys

Eleven Labs Voice ID: A unique ID assigned to each voice within the "My Voices" section of your eleven labs library. You must first either create your own voice, or select one of the many available voices for your DJ. Once in your "My Voices" tab, click the three dots to the right of the voice you'd like to use. Click "Copy Voice ID" and paste it inside of Tape.

Cross Fade Between Tracks:

One of Spotify's most beloved features is it's cross fade and blending between outros and intros. We've mimicked that functionality within tape, giving you a pleasant listening experience with or without your AI DJ enabled - no ads or payments included!

Mini Player(s):

Two different always on top mini players are available. A larger view, and a smaller view.

Customizable Album Covers:

While Tape does have pre-packaged albums available for download via YouTube, album covers associated with those albums have been excluded for copyright reasons.

Fret not! All tracks under the same album can have their covers replaced at scale by clicking into the album and selecting "Replace Album Cover"

Playlist Creation:

Simple, straightforward playlist creation using tracks from your library!

Perpetual "Tape Wrapped" Data:

One of the cool things that I've always liked about Spotify and Apple is their yearly "wrapped" metrics, showing you who your top artists, top songs, and top albums were. But what if you didn't have to wait a whole year to see your stats?

On the home page, you'll see a broad range of statistics across each track, the albums that you have installed, and the various artists that you listen to - no waiting a year for Spotify wrapped!

Additional Features:

• When AI Dj is enabled, conditions are met, and there are no remaining tracks in queue, the AI DJ will give a radio host outro message.

• To quickly move songs in queue to the next position, you can double click on them to instantly push them to the top.

• Favorite songs. Currently doesn't do anything, but will be leveraged for algorithmic use later on.

How to Install

Installation should be a breeze! Download the .exe installer attached to this post. Run the installer. You may receive anti-virus pop ups, simply allow the software through your anti-virus to complete the install. If you continue to run into anti-virus issues, consider disabling your firewall for installation. There is nothing malicious within this code, it was built for personal use and is now being distributed to the broader community (for now)!

Once the installation completes, TAPE should auto open! TAPE is extremely lightweight, but if you need to uninstall it you can from your programs list.

Expansion Plans

Connect to Spotify or Apple and Auto-Download Full Library to Local

In the long run, I'd love to create a system that, when authorized, reviews your library in either Spotify or Apple, sources all albums, artists, or tracks, then auto downloads/migrates your library to a local version via closest match downloads.

Given that Tape imports from YouTube, automating search and downloads could lead to downloading tracks that aren't just the track audio (music videos, remixes, etc.).

Mobile

While this app has been a great companion locally on my PC, I'm considering ways to legally migrate the app to Mobile use, specifically on IPhones.

Recommended For You

I'd love to create some sort of connection that allows the AI behind TAPE to actually source new tracks based on what you listen to.

Autonomous DJ'ing

When enabled, AI DJ would be able to manipulate your queue manually based on vibe or user input.

Local AI Music Generation

AI music is getting very good. Considering adding option AI music tools during installation to allow you to reference tracks you've already downloaded, or create new ones and auto save to your library.

In App YouTube Search

Instead of going to YouTube and hunting down tracks individually, hunt them down inside of TAPE!

Note For Users

• This is my first ever shipped program - it will have bugs, but overall it works very well.

• This was built on Windows primarily for Windows. Mac and Linux users are out of luck for now!

Known Bugs

• If you have AI DJ enabled, and you pause on a song for too long, when you click play again, the AI DJ may start playing the voice line before the fade, causing overlapping audio tracks.
