The loooong finale stats exactly where we ended last week: with Lom bitterly crying over the loss of Blew – who then calls her wearing Helena’s clothes to reveal that they actually switched places when Blew was captured and Helena blindfolded and gagged her. Blew told her she knew she wasn’t a bad person, and she didn’t know what she went through, but her eyes tell her that she didn’t want to do this. She offered to help her, stating that Grance was using her and she would be the first one to die if anything happened, but she promised her a pardon from the king after she helped her, and told her to switch place with her so that she’ll get the police there to arrest the traitors. So they switched places and Blew fled promising to come back for her and asking her to stall for time as best she can. Afterwards, Blew and Lom fall into each other’s arms crying and Lom is glad she is safe before losing consciousness herself. At the hospital Din, Name and Fai are waiting for Lom to wake up. Nam scold her cousins for helping her to get away, but Fai claims Nam knows how stubborn Lom can be and argues she would have found a way to escape anyway. But Nam doesn’t get it, and wonders why she had to risk her life like that to protect someone let alone a princess. Din tells her it’s because of love, and claims Lom has found someone she truly loves. Nam wonders if it’s even possible, if it really could happen. But Fai argues it’s something to be proud of, once in her life, she has sacrificed herself to protect the person she loves, and argues that Blew probably feels it, too. Blew is in another hospital room and wakes up as Karel and the king are watching her, with Karel assuring her that all traitors have been executed. The king claims that he’s been a fool for not knowing has much danger she had to go through, but Blew claims it’s not his fault and asks about Lom, and Karel claims she’s still unconscious but safe, and the king claims they will fly back to Madelin the next day for her own safety. Din, Lam Fai and Rose are still waiting for Lom to wake up. As she wakes up, she claims she knew they would all be there, then wants to know where Blew is. Din tells her she has been discharged this morning. Nam tells her she cannot see her because Lom still needs therapy, and she won’t make it in time anyway, because Blew will fly back to Madelin this afternoon. Fai tells her she came to visit as she was still unconscious and left a letter for her. The letter reads: “By the time you are reading this letter, I will be long gone. I’m sorry I didn’t stay to bod you farewell; unfortunately, the grave matter of treason has required her urgent return to Madelin. Thank you for still being alive, for always staying by my side and protecting me. Thank you for getting hurt and risking your life for me. I now realize how unconditional your love is. It is the most precious thing in my life. I am so blessed to be loved by the person whom I share the same feelings with. Being spart this time, I don’t know when we will meet again. But whenever I can feel the wind blow, I will always this of you. May life treat you well, I will do my best to carry out my duty here, too” And we get a flashback of their flight across Thailand together, of Blew visiting Lom at the hospital that morning where Blew kissed her and told her she loved her, and of Blew leaving Thailand. Karel, Arthur and Blew have returned to Madelin, and Blew and Lom are living their lives separately, with Blew performing her duties and Lom sitting sullenly somewhere, and both of the looking at the sky and thinking about the other. Din and Fai meet Lom, with Fai arguing it’s been over a month and her leg is as good as new, but the wound in her heart is probably not healed yet, with Lom arguing that she came form Surat just to annoy her, but Din claiming she is worried about her, and telling her that King Arthur has sent then an invitation to Madelin, to hold a “thank you”-party for them. Lom had no idea, but Fai claims how would she because she has secluded herself from the world like this, and tells her to go see her if she misses her. Lom wants to, but is also scared that things won’t be the same anymore. Din asks if she chooses to stay with her own fear, and Fai tells her not to be a chicken, claims she hardly blinks when she fights criminals and wants her to just give it a try, and if it doesn’t work out then she can just move on. Din tells her they will go with her and will always support her. In Madelin, Blew learns that Lom has accepted their invitation to Madelin. And Karel wants to know why she is looking so worried, Blew is happy to see her again, but argues that she has been assigned a new duty and is worried she might not be able to make preparations in time. But Karel understands that she has to prepare herself for the throne, and Blew asks him to take care of the guest reception for her. Karel agrees to take care of the guests for her. Arthur comes to his daughter as she sits thinking is her room and wants to know if she’s still working. Blew confirms it, and Arthur thinks she will turn Madelin into great prosperity – much more than under his reign. Blew than asks him to reconsider his decision to step down from the throne, because he is still in good health. Arthur argues that the treason has created a wave of worry among the Madelin people, and having a new leader would make things better. She then wants to abdicate as queen once Karel is ready, but Arthur is confused. Blew wants not only to give up the throne, but also her royal title, but Arthur argues that’s only possible when she committed a serious crime – or decided to marry a commoner. And he is sure that she will never violate any of those rules, tells her to never mention it again, and tells her that her first duty is being the crown princess. And Blew agrees as Arthur is leaving, but she is not happy. Lom is smiling as she’s watching footage of Blew on her phone. Lom, Din, Rose, Nam, Lada, Fai and Fah all arrive in Madelin and are greeted by Karel and Arthur. Karel is glad to see Lom well. Fai asks about Blew, and Karel claims she is busy with her duties but has promised to join them at dinner. Fai wants Lom to join her for a stroll in the garden, as they might run into Blew, but Lom claims the place is so big, that if she doesn’t want them to find her, they will never find her. But Fah argues they will definitely see her this evening, and Fai argues that if they’re meant to be, they will be. And she joins them for dinner in the evening sitting opposite Lom. Lom claim to be glad to see her again, and calls her formally. Blew welcomes her in Madelin and asks if there’s anything she finds lacking. Lom claims that Karel has taken excellent care of them. Then, she turns to Fah and ignores Lom trying to ask another question, and asks her if the flight was exhausting, and Fah claims that not to be the case and asks how she is doing. She’s fine she claims, and asks Nam how she is doing, who claims she is good. Fai consoles Lom. At dinner Arthur expresses his sincere gratitude to all of them for helping his beloved daughter, especially to Lom, and Blew asks them to not hesitate saying it, if there is anything she could be doing to repay them. Fah wants a scoop for her coronation ceremony, and Karel claims it to be a month from then. Nam wants to know if she becomes queen after it, but Blew claims she will be the same as before. Din congratulates her in advance for the whole family and calls her princess, but Lom corrects her to “queen” as she congratulates her and calls her “your majesty”. Blew wants her to call her like she used to, but Lom would not dare to do that, because things are not the same anymore. Arthur claims that once she’s queen, it’s time to find someone to stay by her side, and asks her if she’s given any thought to marriage, if there is any prince she has her eyes on. She admits to have hardly given a thought about it at all, but Arthur wants her to consider Prince Henry who seems to be interested in her, but Karel wants him to change the subject because it will bore her guests. Lom takes a big gulp of win as she looks at Blew with Karel noticing it. Later, Lom takes a stroll through the gardens and marvels at the Iris flowers, as Blew is watching her. The next day, Lom wants to cut her visit short and return to Thailand the following day, but Karel wants to know if something is bothering her mind and asks her to be honest. Lom claims to have received outstanding hospitality, but would rather not impose on them any further and claims her cousins have work to attend to. Karel offers to do anything before she leaves, and she would like to talk to the princess alone, wanting to say goodbye to her. Karel will let his sister know. Blew comes to Lom to speak to her, and Lom wanted to see her and not Princess Catherine. She claims that she’s leaving, which Blew already knows, and claims that their story has no happy ending, the princess always ends up with a prince. Blew wants her to think of them as just a dream that they’re supposed to wake up from. Lom wants to know if Blew can really forget it, and Blew says she won’t and will keep it in her heart. Lom wants to know what she can do for them to be Wind and Phatpha again, but Blew is afraid she can’t put her own happiness over her duty. She hopes Lom will live a happy life from now on, but Lom doesn’t think she can do that. Blew wants her to think of her as dead and argues the day that Helena dies, Phatpha also left her world never to return. Lom claims it feels like she breaking up with her, and tells her she loves her, before telling her goodbye and leaving crying. After she left, Blew tells her she loves her, too – and Karel hears this. The seven Watinwaniches say goodbye to Karel as they are leaving and Blew observes Lom leaving from a distance, but doesn’t show her face. Later. Karel notices that Blew stayed in her room since Lom left the day before, but he doesn’t want to disturb her. Instead, he visits her when she resumes her duties, and claims she has changed a lot since coming back from Thailand and claims it seems like she left her smile and happiness in Thailand, and asks if that’s because of Lom. She wants to know what Lom has to do with it, and he claims to know that they’re in love. Blew claims father will be furious to hear this, she needs to focus on the upcoming coronation ceremony and doesn’t have time for this nonsense. Karel argues that she can lie to him, but not to her own heart. Blew claims to have never lied to her heart, but that her duties as the crown princess take precedence, and she is at a point where she can’t follow her own heart. She can’t fall in love, even after finding the person she truly loves. Karel takes that as an admission that she loves Lom and Blew confirms it. Karel tells her to just follow her heart, claiming that as long as he remembers, she has always done everything for their family and devoting herself to the people of Madelin. Never once she has done anything for her own needs or happiness, so this time, he is begging her to listen to her heart and do something for herself. But Blew claims her father would never allow it, and she doesn’t want to break his heart. Karel claims he won’t be disappointed or sad forever, but if she makes the wrong decision now, she might be sorry for the rest of her life. And Madelin still has him, and he will use this chance to steal the throne from her, he jokes. Blew thanks Karel… … and goes to confess her “crime” to Arthur who doesn’t believe that she wants to give up the throne and rescind her title, because she’s in love with a commoner – with Lom, to be exact. Arthur claims she barely knows her, but Blew claims they have been though life and death together countless times, and she has no doubts in their love. He accuses her of being negligent in her duty as the crown princess, she asks for forgiveness, but she afraid she won’t be able to live without Lom. Arthur want to know if Lom is more important to her that Madelin, and Blew admits in teary-eyed. Arthur thinks she will choose this path no matter what he says, then pronounces her a commoner and throws her out of the palace without any of her valuable items. Karel has arranged some accommodations for her, and she claims that once she settles down, she will fly to Thailand to see Lom. He tells her not to worry much about her father and claims he still loves her and won’t be angry for long. They hug, as she leaves for the place that Karel arranged for her, and as she arrives the first snow falls reminding her of the time Lom and Blew talked about snow in Madelin. And as she thinks about this Lom come out of the place asking herself if Blew is watching. Lom is surprised when Blew answers her question, and to find her there. She calls her Blew, then princess and asks what she is doing there. But Blew claims no to be a princess anymore, because her father removed her title and banished her from the palace – because she told him that she loves Lom, allowing her to finally cross the line to be with her, as she promised. And we get two scenes of Blew crossing a line to step closer to Lom, and she’s holding her hands as she promises that from now on there will be just Lom and Blew and no more princess. They tell each other they love each other as they hug. Later inside, they are holding hands and Blew wants to know when Lom will return to Thailand. Lom claims her original plans were to return after the coronation ceremony – but now, she has changed her mind and she’s going to take her back with her. Blew wants to know if everyone will be okay with it now that she’s not a princess anymore and argues that she’s completely broke. But Lom claims she can make her happy, and vows she will look after her for the rest of her life. She admits she never thought this day would come, and Blew never thought it as well and claims this is like a dream for her. They start to kiss, but Lom then stops, wanting to make it right first. And Blew knows what she means. At Din’s, Fai is wondering about Lom and worried about her being heartbroken and staying far from home like that, and wants to report her as a missing person. Din tried to call her but her phone was off, and thinks she’s trying to hold it together, and she will tell Fah to ask Karel if he could help. Fai argues Lom must be crying her heart out right now – but Karel told Fah that he already sent Blew to where Lom is staying, and Fah is happy that they are together now. Karel thanks Fah for letting him know beforehand. Blew wakes up as four children are standing at her bedside, claiming she looks as beautiful as a princess and asking if her name is Blew, claiming Wind was saying she is the person she loves, and Wind wants her to join her at breakfast. Downstairs, Lom claims the kids just wanted to get to know her, then asks if she hungry. As she confirms it, she wants her to close her eyes, and Blew complies. Lom puts an Iris crown on her head and tells her that in her eyes she will always be her princess forever – and goes down on one knee and proposes to her, claiming she will keep her safe for the rest of her life. Of course, Blew accepts – and soon thereafter, they are married in a private ceremony while still abroad. After the marriage, Blew asks Lom if she is nervous and Lom shakes her head and claims she is just a little. Blew thought she has dated many girls before, but Lom claims to have been very reserved when it comes to this thing and argues her virtue is well-preserved. Blew thinks that’s unbelievable but Lom claims it’s true. Blew just drags Lom to her and starts kissing her, and tells her what’s hers will only be hers, as they start making out. After six minutes of love-making , we return to Thailand, where Lom meets with her parents, who were worried about her because she hasn’t reached out to her. Lom is sorry, but she wants them to meet someone, and Wathit argues it’s her girlfriend – but it’s actually Blow whom she introduces, who claims she’s no longer a princess – and Lom tells them that they got married in Madelin, and Blew lost her title. Lom is sorry for not telling them beforehand, and Blew asks Wathit not to blame her, but her mother claims the correct title for them are father and mother as Blew is now their daughter-in-law. But Wathit is still mad that he didn’t get to witness their marriage, and wants to throw a second marriage party in Thailand. They struggle a little before they call each other Blew, father and mother, but eventually they get there. 😉 Karel writes that he is sorry not to be able to attend their wedding due to an urgent duty which requires his attention, but he’s sending them a gift her father and himself would like to give them, and thinks his anger has subsided by now. He wishes her happiness in life and hopes they will meet again soon. He claims that father and him will always be waiting for her return. The wedding takes place at the “Monarch” hotel, and Fai tells Lom to stop smiling as that is her second wedding, but Lom claims people who have never been in love won’t understand it, and Din claims she also got married twice but wasn’t as bad as Lom, though. But Lom claims she can’t lie on her side because happiness would come dripping out of her ears Fai wants to know what is so good about that love nonsense, but Nam claims love is not nonsense, it makes one see the true meaning of life, and Din agrees, claiming Rose is the reason she wants to stay alive. But Lom wants them to stop bragging about their wives – it’s Blew’s and her wedding that day. Fai claims they are all the same and make her want to puke – and vows she will rather stay single to be an auntie who pampers her nieces and nephews. Fai leaves as Lom wonders if she will ever get married, and Nam thinks there is no chance because she hates love, but Din argues when she happens to find a good love, she won’t be able to deny it. Lom and Blew parade through a wedding procession of their friends, family, cousins, in-laws, and also Beam and Bua though I don’t know which one (but I assume it’s the Bua from the island), and at the reception Wathit and his wife welcome Blew into the family and wish them love and happiness. Nam wishes them both everlasting love and happiness and argues Blew has made their wind stop blowing. Lada welcomes Blew into the Wathinwanich family and argues this tiger has become toothless referring to Lom. Din is just happy this Lom doesn’t have to walk alone anymore, and tells them to never let go of each other’s hands. Rose argues that it’s not easy for them to finally be together, and tells them to remember these moment for as long as they can, and also welcomes Blew into the Wathinwanich family. Fai tells Lom she was right when she told her it was risky but worth giving it a try and tells her well done, bro. Lom promises to love, cherish and care for Blew more than for her own life. Blew finally thanks everyone for the love and warmth they’ve given to them, and to Lom for making her realize what it’s like to love someone more than her own life, and she tells her she loves her before they kiss. Then everyone wants Blew to throw her bouquet, but in the end Blew just hands it to Fai, who is reluctant to take it. But Blew hands it to her anyway, hoping that she will find her love soon, with Lom adding that they are looking forward to adding another cousin-in-law. The final scene is with Lom and Blew strolling down the beach, and Lom arguing that finally they can be Wind and Phatpha once again, but Blew arguing that it’s actually Lon and Blew as they don’t need to disguise themselves anymore. Lom can’t believe that the princess of Madelin is walking right by her side. And Blew wants to know has she ever wondered what brought them together when they were worlds apart. Lom thinks it was the traitors but Blew claims it was the wind bringing them together. They tell each other they love each other again, then kiss. And the series end with a caption: “Not in every fairy tale does the princess end up with a prince”. ____ This was everything I expected from the novel, though they left the third wedding out – but everything else, was as close to the novel as adaptations come, from the reveal early on that not Blew, but Helena died, to their separation as Blew initially wanted to take on her duties as queen of Madelin, but eventually surrenders to her love. This was a long episode, but they had five chapters to deal with left, and it’s a little sad to see them go, especially when there is no other project on the horizon for Freen and Becky (apart from guesting in “The Fire”, of course). The series as a whole is an 8.5/10 or a “B” for me, right between “Gap” and “The Loyal Pin”. I’m looking forward to “The Fire” (which is my least-liked of the “4 elements” novels, by the way) which is probably an enemies-to-lovers storyline and less heavy.
