Pluto EP 6
Ai is confronted by her grandma. Turns out, before getting a real degree, she created a fake one to allow her time to help her grandma pay for Oom's school and bills.
She is committed to continuing her writting, and looks to May for encouragement. May needs some encouragement too, as she is faced with a choice to whether or not go to Ploy's opening and gather with friends who knew her before her blindness. She fears pity.
But a bomb explodes when we find out...

The episode starts – as always - with a flashback, this time to 2014, when Ai-oon, Pang, Kosol and Ben were working for a service that collected and returned clothes for washing. As the four of them sit down for a post-work dinner, Ben reveals that he’s not going to university, in order to earn money to relieve the financial obligations by his mother. This got Ai-oon thinking of the grandma who would have to pay for both her and Ob-oom – and she is working herself into the ground already. This leads to an argument with her grandma, she thinks she should prioritize Ob-oom and not bother with her. In the here and now, Ai-oon is watching videos of how to make money as a write. The next day, she has uploaded her work-in-progress novel, in bed with May, she tells her her parents used to read stories to her as a kid – but after their deaths, the memories became too painful – until May reignited that spark. We see Ai-oon happy at work delivering food and documents, then at night, she return home – but grandma is angry. She submitted her certificate for a job at Paul’s company – but it turns out that certificate is fake! Ai-oon admits that she initially skipped studying to earn a living, but she has since got her bachelor’s degree in mass communication. Grandma scolds her for deferring her education, for working as a delivery driver, out of necessity, but Ai-oon tells her she is stupid, so not wasting money on her meant they did not have to mortgage the house. Plus, grandma is the only relative (apart from her sister) that Ai-oom has. How could she risk her health for what she thought of as meaningless studies? Grandma laments that she now has a bedridden granddaughter, and one who is downing because of a decision made in her name. Ai-oon breaks down crying after that. (Ai-oon and her grandma are too much alike, they always prioritize the other family members over themselves. Ai-oon disdain for her own self-worth came into play in that scene again.) The next day, Ai-oon wakes up to an empty house, as her grandma went to see Ob-oom again. Then she gets a text from May but doesn’t reply. May sends a few more texts and starts to get worried, as Ai-oon arrives at her place. She says she’s sorry that she did upload any new chapters or reply to her messages – then, she hugs her. She tells May she had a fight with her grandma, and May offers to listen to her story. Ai-oon confesses that she has a sister, and that she graduated a little later because she had to support the family, and relieve her grandma, which is why she got into a fight yesterday. She says Oom is great (obviously referring to her sister) and calls herself “this Oom” once again. May explains that “this Oom” is chasing her dream, delivery girl by day, aspiring writer by night, and even finds time to care for her blind girlfriend. How is that bad? (At this moment, I was sure once again that May must know she isn’t talking to “her” Ob-oom.) Ai-oon is moved by this, saying May made her feel bigger again. May replies that she should not anyone allow to make her feel small again. At Ob-oom hospital bed, grandma is talking to her. Ai-oon joins her, and they talk to each other by talking to Ob-oom. Ai-oon is telling them that she wants to be a writer and grandma admits that Ai-oon has grown up and will root for her. So, they king of made up. Later, she sees Ploy and May walking though the hospital. May is there for a check-up, her condition is still unchanged. May does not want to visit Ploy’s restaurant, then, despite Ploy’s insistence that the restaurant was a dream by the both of them. Play leaves in frustration with May sending Ton after her. May doesn’t want to visit the restaurant because she can’t stand her old friends pitying her for being blind. May and Ai-oon visit a bar, May lets Ai-oon describe the room because May has never seen it. She chose this place because no one knew her from before, and because she liked the music that was played there. She explains she wants not to be given handouts because she’s blind, but to be respected for the work she does. We switch to a flashback at the hospital right after she was assaulted, when she finds out that she can’t see anymore. We are also informed that the police found her after her girlfriend contacted them. Plus, we find out the reason for the blindness – a brain hemorrhage. Then, three friends of hers – including Ploy – arrived and pretty much confused and overwhelmed her. She wanted to get in tough with Ob-oom, but after a while, realized she was gone (So, she did ditch her after she became blind? Boo!). Her Dad wanted her to move back home – but she decided to tackle life on her own, with her wits – and her money – and make life better for those who can’t see. But she dreads to this day that other people looks at her with pity instead of respect. Later, Ai-oon talks to Pang; she want to help May the same way she encouraged her. Pang thinks May just needs to believe in herself, seeing herself the way that Ai-oon sees her. Then, Kosol joins them, and it turns out the three of them were visiting Ben’s mother’s “grave”. Then, we turn to Pim, who is helping Jan move into her own house. Pim is smiling which makes Jan happy. Pim congratulates her for being able to buy a house a her age – she must be rich. But Jan doesn’t want to move anymore, Pim say she’s fine now, and doesn’t need her help anymore, but Jan is jealous, she fears that someone might snatch Pim up. We switch to Ai-oon who has recreated Ploy’s restaurant – just without the people – for May to get used to. Her friends Pang and Jan help setting this up. She recounts that the first time they met, May kissed her (actually, that is the first time May kissed Ai-oon, not Ob-oom!) and that inspired her to change her life. Then she starts to sing a song to her (“Somewhere only we know” from the soundtrack) that turns into a music video of them dancing in a fantasy word. As the song ends, Ai-oon says she really wants to show everybody how beautiful her girlfriend is. Later, Pang and Pim are cleaning up the place, and getting to know each other. Pang is suspicious why she’s helping Ai-oon when she’s actually Ob-oom’s close friend. Meanwhile, May is preparing to introduce Ai-oon to her friends. Ton mentions she never took “the old Oom” anywhere, May explains that with the old Oom she was loving who she was, whereas with this new Oom, she’s sure that she’s the one – the one she actually loves in Ai-oon!!! (So, she’s isn’t dumb and deaf in addition to her blindness, after all, she knows that Ai-oon and not Ob-oom has “returned” to her. 😊) She lets Ai-oon take her car, and plans to tell her she knows who she is the next evening – just as Ton gets a call from a P.I. claiming that Kosol was indeed May’s assaulter. But Ton cannot tell the news to May as her cellphone is out of battery power. ____ This ends the first half of the show, and saw me yelling at my TV claiming “I knew it!”. So, we know now that May actually knows she’s been getting closer to Ai-oon, not Ob-oom, and I suspect Jan has something to do with how she knows. I liked that they almost buried the big reveal towards the end of the episode; now we need to find out when and how she realized. We learned this time that May loves Ai-oon more than she ever loved Ob-oom – as if that wasn’t obvious from her actions. So, everything could be hugs and kisses – but the assault by Kosol will certainly darken the skies again, and we do not yet know what lead to the assault on Ben in the first place and what – if anything – did that have to do with the so-called accident that Paul and Ob-oom get into after their wedding. But we are only half through the series. That was a great episode, especially the back-half was really well-written. 😊 And “somewhere only we know” is the first song from this soundtrack I really like.
