I was literally playing this album this morning and thinking again about what a great Vambie reaction it would be. This day just got good.

I would love to see Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Little Simz added to the wheel! Orchestral, transitions, dense lyricism, you will adore this album and the album art and id love to see more female hip hop artists featured! Id also love to see Deltron 3030 and Pharcyde albums to be added... but Simz first lmao

James Edwards · July 30, 2026

wait.. no music videos? LOVED the reaction btw.

Love this series idea. Can’t wait until you land on Rodeo by Travis Scott…. Hopefully won’t be too many months to wait, because Travis is such a unique artist and would be such a different spin on what you currently react to and he’s an artist that still has substance. He may lack in the hard/creative bars like you get from a J Cole or Kendrick, but his ability to engulf you into a sound he curates is unmatched and you really need to experience a full body of his work in one go.

Crazy how Drake used a sample from a GOATed song in Ex-Factor and it had none of the sentiment or soul of the original 🤦🏽‍♂️

G
Gregory Smith · July 29, 2026

YESSS I WAS HOPING IT WAS THIS ALBUM

k
klairvoyage · July 27, 2026

Would love to see any of the 3 albums by D'Angelo, as well as "Baduizm" and "Mama's Gun" by Erykah Badu on the spinny wheel list

Lauryn Hill is so wonderful. Fun fact is that when she was like 15ish, she tried out for Showtime at the Apollo and the crowd booed her off the stage (normal behavior at the Apollo). But she persisted and became one of the most acclaimed singers (and rappers) in hip hop. She truly was a phenomenon

You’ve never heard this album?!? Top 5 OAT

is there going to be a way for us to add albums to this wheel or is this just your mods putting it together?

First, Rest In Peace to D’Angelo, but also literally one of my childhood albums so many universal themes and the duality between Lauryn’s rapping and singing… amazing

I just learned that Lauryn was 23 when she released this which is crazy to think about

K
King Aliyah · July 26, 2026

So the last two songs are hidden tracks, which if your not familiar with the concept these would be unlisted songs that would play after a long silence on the vinyl/cd after the album was finished. So the album did infact end when u thought it could have ended

A lot of this album is about her relationship with Wyclef Jean. They were a couple for much of the Fugees' tenure and continued having an affair for a while even after Wyclef married another woman in 1996, which was also the year Lauryn started dating Rohan Marley (son of Bob) and got pregnant with their first child. The Fugees stopped touring in part due to her pregnancy, and Wyclef later blamed the group's breakup on that. But despite the messiness of all that, Lauryn contributed to Wyclef's firt solo album in 1997, only for him to turn around and discourage her from pursuing a solo career. When he realized that she was serious about recording a solo album, he offered to produce it but she turned him down. To me that seems like Wyclef was trying to control her solo career after the Fugees broke up, so she was understandably pissed about all that. For her to then largely produce her solo debut herself, have it debut at #1 on the Billboard charts and go on to win Album of the Year at the Grammys was just one of the most triumphant middle fingers in music history. Such a masterpiece.

Lost Ones is a Wyclef Jean diss.

You should react to the Kendrick Howard stern interview that dropped yesterday it was recorded back in the damn era

Great album, been forever since I listened to it. Lauryn really is one of the all-time talents, I wish she'd created more music but it's her career. Her last feature was on Nas' album Kings Disease 2 back in 2021, and that song (Nobody) is a true late career highlight for both artists. Her combination of singing and rapping is truly special, and I honestly don't know if any other artist can truly match it. If you liked the overall sound of this, you would definitely like other Neo Soul/Soulquarians albums from this period. D'Angelo's Brown Sugar and Voodoo come to mind, as does The Roots' Things Falls Apart, Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star, and Erykah Badu's Baduizm. Similar production, some carryover in terms of features. Quite honestly, I'd probably replace Rodeo by Travis Scott with one of those albums (or just something else), because seeing that project on this wheel with some of the best albums in music history makes me queasy, but that's just a personal sentiment lol. I feel similarly about LiveLoveASAP even though I enjoy that project a good deal more than Travis's and it's a personal favorite.

Damn what an excellent first album. This is simultaneously both in my top 10 hip hop and RnB albums ever made. To Zion is one of my favorite songs (my mom played it a lot when she had me). Also the other albums in the wheel are all so good, hope The Blueprint gets chosen soon

This album dropped like a flaming meteor onto the sonic landscape of 1998. Utterly unique in tone and style, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill seemed to herald an inevitable breakthrough into the mainstream of popular music. But fame is a cruel monster and doesn't care about brilliance and potential. It only devours souls and spits out the bones of hope. Lauryn wrote one of the best albums ever and paid a heavy price for that success.

Ex-Factor has a legit argument for best song ever. I’ve never met someone who didn’t like it or at least one part of it. This album was also voted by Apple Music as the best album ever recently and there was little to no complaints. A few weeks ago I heard “nothing even matters” and almost cried because I legitimately forgot D’Angelo passed away, special song and album

a
