This was fascinating, and even though I’ve been interested in Titanic since I was a kid, this was the first time I’ve heard multiple accounts contrasted like this. Listening to this got me to subscribe: looking forward to more!
Just caught up on this episode- James, your historiography is excellent. You do historians proud! 🥲
Aww thanks!
Very interesting…it is hard to decifer if the inaccuracies and embellishments in the articles are the result of yellow journalism or his own personal additions that may or may not have been true. It does make him sound more like a hero (ie cutting the rope, only getting to a lifeboat after waiting and getting permission, stating all women were safe) because as we know, he would have been ridiculed for saving himself. So it makes me think there is also some self preservation there. Thought provoking stuff as usual !
Such a fun puzzle to put back together
