Articulated Realistic Rat
Articulated Realistic Rat
Meet the Articulated Realistic Rat - a detailed, poseable 3D printable model combining realistic proportions, textured fur, expressive features, and plenty of articulation.
The rat is printed in multiple separate parts and assembled using pins. The head, arms, legs, torso, and hips are separate sections, giving the finished model plenty of movement while maintaining a realistic appearance.
One of my favorite parts of the model is the fully articulated tail. Its many individual segments allow it to bend and curl naturally, giving it a surprisingly lifelike feel when handled and posed.
๐ It accidentally became a pen holder...
This part wasn't planned at all.
After assembling the rat, I left it standing on my desk while working. At some point, I put my pen between its arms - and it just held it perfectly.
So what started as a realistic articulated rat quickly became my little desk assistant. โ๏ธ๐
The pen-holder function wasn't designed into the model, but thanks to the movable arms and stable standing pose, it works surprisingly well. You can experiment with different poses and have it hold pens, pencils, styluses, or other lightweight objects.

๐จ Recommended Print Settings
Printer: FDM
Layer Height: 0.15 mm
Infill: 10โ15%
Walls/Perimeters: 2
Supports: โ Not required
Brim: Optional (only if you experience adhesion issues)
Material: PLA recommended
Nozzle Temperature: 210โ220ยฐC
Bed Temperature: 55โ60ยฐC
Most parts are designed to print without supports, with the head being the exception. I also recommend using a brim for the small pins and articulated tail to improve bed adhesion and reduce the chance of parts coming loose during printing.
Once everything is printed, assemble the individual sections with the included pins, give the tail a few bends, find your favorite pose - and maybe give your new desk rat a pen to look after. ๐โ๏ธ
All parts have been designed for support-free printing to make the printing process as easy and reliable as possible.
โ Scaling Notice
This model has been carefully tuned for smooth articulation at its original size. Scaling the model up or down may alter the joint tolerances, causing the articulated sections to become either too tight or too loose.
