Important: Workaround for OTA Update From RePlayOS
Hi everyone,
Several users reported an issue where the OTA update may fail on some systems. The update appears to start, but it finishes very quickly, does not reboot properly, and the system remains on your current version.
After checking the update log, the problem seems to be caused by the third-party xone driver failing to rebuild against the newer Raspberry Pi kernel during the update process. This blocks dpkg from completing the kernel package configuration, so the OTA update cannot continue correctly.
This does not appear to be a RePlayOS data/settings issue, and the workaround has already been confirmed to work.
Workaround
Connect to your RePlayOS system via SSH and run:
sudo dkms remove -m xone -v unknown --all sudo dpkg --configure -a sudo apt-get -f install
Then reboot:
sudo reboot
After the system starts again, try applying the OTA update once more from RePlay OS.
Notes
The xone driver is a third-party driver, and something appears to have broken with the newer kernel update. I’ll likely force-disable or remove this driver during future OTA updates to prevent this issue from happening again.
Thanks to the user who reported and tested the workaround.
Technical details are available in GitHub issue #365.
