Status Update #56 - April 6, 2026

A bit late this week for uninteresting reasons; Sunday status updates will resume as always on the weekend.

I'm finally done with censoring the game for Steam; it took me way longer than it had any right to because I wasn't enthused about combing through the script and taking a hatchet to it. Not my idea of a good time, and all that. However, it really wasn't all that difficult, and I'm glad to be completely focused on writing the game's script. As I'll repeat later, I hope to be 100% done with writing by the end of this month; I'll give myself ~3 weeks to plug the script into RenPy for a late May release if all goes well.

This week I'm previewing the final new character from Pt 2 (that I wish to show you ahead of time, anyway...). Lord Radek Phokas is of Tryskian heritage, which means he hails from the region that was aesthetically inspired by Poland. Despite this, he both looks and acts like a fiery Spaniard. Methinks his house has a great deal of ancestry from Vilchis, my Spanish surrogate house that used to exist in Lyskoria but has long been exiled to the Red Kingdom. One thing I'd like to put out there that I never have before is that while I used real life countries as 1:1 aesthetic inspirations for the fictional regions in Jezebel, the inspiration stops at aesthetic makeup (names, ethnicity, architecture). There is no relationship between the culture or political attitude of any noble house in the game and that of the real life historical nation that I am using as inspiration for their heritage.

I actually need you guys' help with something re: Radek. The fingerless gloves. Yay or nay? This was the artist's call, not mine; I like how they make him look eccentric, but I was worried they looked too modern. My research tells me that fingerless gloves have actually existed for hundreds of years, and were not invented strictly for texting purposes, but I thought I'd check and see what people think anyway.
