Feel Good Food - Episode 46

In the alternative farming scene, it's unlikely for anyone to have not heard of Joel Salatin or have been influenced by his larger than life personality. Here in our cozy corner of South-Western Australia, we were fortunate enough to meet another two farmers who are carving out a place for themselves in the world of regenerative agriculture, incorporating his lessons from the other side of the world.

Jeff and Michelle of Southampton Homestead are passionate about restoring health to the land, opportunity to the people of their community and a meaningful life for the animals in their care. It is our great fortune to count them as our friends and it is with no small pleasure that we present their story to you.

It isn't often we do interviews of people, and this was a surprisingly challenging episode to put together as we had to learn the art of syncing multiple video and audio streams, but we're quite happy with the result and hope you are too.

Please enjoy this small look into the lives of some people who inspire us.

Thanks as always.

We loved this video & what we learnt. 👏 what a great way to farm. Some great insights into what we really buy & eat from the "brand" places. Be ordering a big box from "Dirty Clean Food" & it's going to very interesting to taste the quality. Thanks guys

Yup you can get Jeff's chicken from Dirty Clean Food. It was our go to for beef and chicken before we grew our own chicken and managed to source some local beef. Can't recommend their produce strongly enough.

Inspiring video! People like Jeff and Michelle are making a difference, improving the land and the life of all its inhabitants, and you, Troy and Pascale, are making a difference too. By creating and sharing such great informative and entertaining videos you spread the message to a wider world. I live in rural northwestern France, a region facing the same farming, environmental and cultural challenges as you do. We can get a bit insular out here, see our problems as unique and our solutions, by definition, homegrown. This video is a useful reminder that there is so much to be gained by sharing. Thank you so much.

Thank you Edward for the kind words. It's such a pleasure to share with you the people who inspire us. We read your message to Jeff on the phone and he was very touched. Are you by any chance in the Basque region? I have fond memories of wind surfing and mucking about on Hobie cats there with my cousins, not to mention, the delicious galletes and cidre!

I love to see people that are passionate about what they're doing, especially when they are making the world a better place while they're doing it! Very encouraging!!

Thank you Troy and Pascale. Really enjoyed Jeff and Michelle’s story, there’s hope for us yet. The system that Jeff and Michelle have seems so sensible, nurture the land, nurture the creatures and everything benefits. I haven’t looked around Farmers’ Markets for meats, I must try to look wider. Well done on vid production, superb story telling and beautiful to watch and listen to.

Thank you Vince. You should definitely seek those producers out! It turns out we actually met Michelle at the Farmer's Market before we left Perth in 2015. We bought a kilo of livers from her to make an extra special Christmas pate for the family. So yummy.
