Officially Pastured Pig Farmers!
Good Morning Patrons
Join us for the excitement as we welcome our 5 Wessex Saddle Back & Large Black cross pigs to the farm.
Raising these pigs has been even more rewarding than we imagined. It's lovely to look back on this video and see how far we've come. 2 of the pigs now run up to us for pats when we come to see them. They like to roll on their side so we can scratch their bellies! They are fattening up nicely and they are now on their 7th paddock after roughly 5 weeks on the farm.
This week we also collected 2 new rescue kittens, Jinx and Kuma. They are very well mannered and affectionate with sudden outbursts of frenetic energy. After 5 days they are starting to adjust to having to the 3 uncivilised mutts join them in the evening. If you are interested, I've attached some photos of them for you.
We hope this post finds you well.
With gratitude
Troy and Pascale

Great!!! I will watch again loved the whole episode... the music @ 14:44 & the P-Giggles made my day. I watched a film on homesteading tonight that I think you would benefit from; here is that link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM4uKkPDuMY Scrub to the10-12 minute mark if you want to get past the build up. Cheers ✍️)))
Thanks for the link Robert, any extra learning we can do is valuable.
Can’t figure out why their called pigs.😀 Free garden tilling.
Well free if you don't count the daily tummy rubs!
Wow! The Wessex Saddle Back & Large Black cross pigs are doing fantastic work clearing and turning over the soil for you! And they're seem to be wonderful animals besides! Nice to have a brooding hen working away as well. The kittens should prove helpful down the road. Poor Jet!! That's was a tough lesson!!!
Those pigs are unbelievably efficient and teamed up with the chooks, leave a patch of ground looking like it has been rototilled. We want to work out a good planting regime after them and also use them as swaling machines. They run on apples! Jet seems to be reaching the top of her learning S curve and now is just trying to adjust to two semi wild kittens who are amok in the household.
quick while they are eating get the trailer out🤣👍
Timing is everything
So are these piggies destined for the table, or ....? As usual, love the intelligent use of what's around (old tire) and consultations with neighbors for what works.
We would like to breed from two of the biggest and friendliest pigs with the other three getting an invitation to join us for dinner. The reuse and recycle motto is in full effect on the Ramshackle Ranch.
pascal what brand are those overalls you are wearing?
They are US Liberty brand.
Awesome episode guys, thoughly enjoyed learning more about 🐖 🐖 & also they have more use than on the bbq or in the smoker. It's amazing just how much land they turned over and cleared in that short time. Can see now how feral pigs are such a problem for farms and pastoralist. Poor Jet got a real 🥾 from that fence. Cheers guys 🍻
We are baby sitting Mums dogs at present and that fence has claimed a few more scalps. It is amazing technology- so simple but extremely effective. Our pigs are very motivated to get to us when we roll up with a new bucket but they will not go close to that wire!
Some pretty pampered porkers! They really do a good job turning the soil. Thanks also for the kitten pics. They are really cute at that age, despite running around like domestic terrorists! Take good care!
Domestic terrorists 🤣 A very apt and hilarious description!
