What we love about our "new" old sailboat! - Episode 173
Hi folks
This week we tighten our Dyneema rigging and and explain some of the unique features that we really love about our new sails and rig whilst under weigh to our next destination. Troy also make some modifications to our wind vane foil after losing our most useful sized foil coming over to the mainland from Tasmania.
It was really nice to be able to use footage solely from our big film making camera (a Panasonic GH5S) in this episode. We could even get it out for the sailing footage as we had some reasonably calm weather to get some cinematic shots on deck.
We normally like to respond to your comments on our videos promptly but as we are currently sailing in and out of internet range we are forced to schedule these videos in advance. So, apologies if by the time you get to see them we are back out of range and unable to respond. Rest assured, we will come back and read them as we always value your feedback.
Our sincere gratitude
Troy and Pascale

It was a good episode. Fun shots and we learned a good bit. Thank you!
IEnjoyable as always .
Hi Salty sea dogs.. great vid.. quick question on your simrad Tiller pilot where you successful in getting a remote for it?? That would be awesome!!... I am very jealous of you guys spending a dry season in the Pilbarra & Kimberly... All those Barra & Queenies & muddies are beckoning since the capricorn coast in QLD a long time ago now it seems :) Fair winds Troy and Pascale PS got a Package off Rob the 200 buck a month one you have.. he was great and upfront too slow for downloaded but great for Email & texts
Awesome! Glad you connected with Rob he provides a really great service. We don't have a remote for our Simrad TP10. It might be worth seeing if the TP32 can have a remote?
Best channel on YouTube 👍🏾
Love the birds :-)
TY for the pleasant episode. I love the birds. Those species seem plentiful and quite playful. You probably don't think its too much of a deal. However, we never see them in the wild up North, unless somebody left the cage open on the back porch...!
Hi, another great episode, and love that you went over the removal of the tracks on deck, hope to do the same soon for the same reason...so many leaks! How’d the winch cover go in preventing the waves coming into the locker? Fair winds and hope you’re enjoying the WA coast. Winter is here in Perth now. 😊⛵️
Hi Elaine. Winch cover works great! Very very happy with it. We had a big sail to Abrolhos on Port tack (the one that takes waves through the anchor locker) and only 4 hand pumps after 12 hour period. Big success! Thanks so much for your input on this and lending us your machine. Couldn't have done it without you. Pascale
Another great educational & inspirational episode guys. Cheers 🍻
Hello Troy and Pascale, A lovely episode at a wonderful pace. While I enjoyed the refit videos it is nice to get back to a more measured pace of cruising. Re your jib Fairleads I was curious about them and glad Troy addressed that topic. We used to use a similar setup in racing in order to bring the Genoa sheeting angle further inboard to be able to pinch an extra degree closer to the wind. You could try that if the need ever arose. Best of luck and thank you! Ben S/V DAWN
Beautiful shots! Love the GH5S colours. Totally agree with everyone about the rigging. Am preaching the practical ability and sense of Dyneema to my brother for their next boat. Nice work guys. Best wishes from Berlin.
Great to see all these solutions. I especially like the 4 to 1 with the frictionless rings. Elegant and practical. The implementation of your electronic auto pilot with your wind vane makes so much sense! Well done all around!!
My cat is purring .... the sun has set and the colors on the water are a muted silver. All very fitting for this relaxed-nice pick of music-episode. ✍️) Cheery Cheers.. Rob
I liked that you showed how to get rid of that track. I never thought of that. It’s a great idea. If it ever be...I’ll do that on my next boat project. Great video. Good explanation about the standing rigging. I think I’ll stick with turnbuckles and nico-presses. All that rope work for the tensioning would be hard on my old knuckles. Cheers guys.
It looked like a nice passage. No crazy winds, no crazy swells. It’s so interesting to see the adjustability of the Dyneema rigging. The load cell is a brilliant idea, rather than just going by feel. After watching how your experience with the rigging is going, I wonder why anyone would use stainless ever again. It seems so much better. Very impressed. Safe travels
