Galley Status: Transformed! - Episode 147

Hi lovely Patrons

We are so so happy with the new cabinetry we designed and made for our galley. So, it is with much excitement that we share this video depicting the build process over the last 3 months.

We love hearing from you on the Wall so if you have any questions regarding the build please let us know below.

With gratitude

Troy and Pascale

Question: why did you ask with epoxy and not with a marine varnish?

T
Troy and Pascale · September 22, 2020

We used a base coat of epoxy to seal and stabilise the wood as well as giving a protective coat in case the varnish on top chipped later. Without an epoxy base, moisture can get under varnish damage and spread along the wood to lift more so it becomes a bigger job.

Another great episode guys. Once again love the little tips we wouldn't think of. Refit coming along just dandy. 😍

Fantastic job! I’ve been looking forward to your diy refit tips for sometime. You guys are a great resource for new “ yachtys”. Thanks for sharing.

The cabinets and trim look fantastic. Like the simplicity and the new doors really suit the galley.

Your meals will taste so much better on that new galley. Can’t wait to see them. And after watching you do ALL that work I got pretty tired. Time for a nap.

Beautifully done! There is seemingly no end to your skill set, Troy! Lance's workshop looks extraordinarily well set up. Pascale did a fantastic job on the finish work. I love that you are keeping with the Clansman philosophy of seaworthiness, while also improving the function and aesthetics. I really enjoyed watching this episode and looking forward to seeing the rest of the refit and then watching you sail off in the masterpiece you're creating for new adventures.

If the weather permits, we will need every bit of that seaworthiness for a trip across the Great Australian Bight. Very exciting!

Nicely done!

Electronics, marine fabrication and engineering, haute cuisine, cinematography and now carpentry...What beautiful results! Lance certainly did you a solid letting you use his fantastic workshop. Marrool looks absolutely wonderful and you both look happy. Well done! Great match on the stain color, too. Marrool looks ready for a Cotillion! More storms coming in the Atlantic Basin; we just hit the half way point for hurricane season...I hope you dodge your cyclone season. Keep up the good work and stay safe. Fair winds, my friends.

T
Troy and Pascale · September 16, 2020

Thanks Doc. No worries about cyclones down this far south but certainly some big Southern Ocean swells creep up through the spring Gale season.

That was a great creator montage. Made it look so easy! You guys better set sail again soon lest you grow roots and become Tasmanian hardwood yourselves.

We are 7 days a week at the moment to get Mirrool ready for our summer escape bid!

Such incredible work. What a magnificent galley. Beautiful edit this week too (as always)! Lance is such a star for giving his space up for the refit. What a legend. Well done you too. Mirool is looking amazing!

That was at least a 15Litre bottle of Meths there, Was there something you wanted to share with the Group? Wonderful job both, having the time to do these jobs properly really shows in the finished result.

Our stove; it's an alcoholic but our recent epoxy habit has seen us consuming more of it lately.

A finish you could be proud to have in any home - floating or otherwise :)

Wow, that was quite an episode. TY for sharing. And judging by the frequent smiles on Pascale's face, I'd say you all did a great job.

Troy "It will be strong" "This will be a strong thing" :-) :-) :-) The love and care you two show for each other and for Mirrool and for your storytelling is breathtaking. tim

It has indeed turned out as strong as a very very strong thing!

There’s a lot of love there. It may have been your first time staining, but the patience and passion for doing your best(I dislike the term perfect) is obvious. This really brings out why truly good woodwork takes so much time. Just amazing. The result is really good, and you can be so proud that you did it yourselves, and sticking to the original theme of the boat...priceless.

T
Troy and Pascale · September 16, 2020

Mirrool is losing some of that 70's caravan look but keeping her sea qualities! The old saying 'Perfect is the enemy of good' is always in our mind as it is also the enemy of getting out and using your boat.

Those doors look mint! I wish I had those on my Quest!
