How many boats can we fit aboard Mirrool? Episode 135

Here it is, our first video of our time spent on the West Coast of Tasmania. We introduce you to the latest additions to our boat family, why we like them and how we can fit them aboard little old Mirrool. The scenery is just stunning here and we felt totally isolated for the first time in a long time.

We hope you enjoy this one folks, we've been editing mostly of an evening after doing the cabinetry and frame work for Mirrool's interior during the day, luckily the daylight hours are pretty short now!

Beautiful. Just upped my Patreon support tier. Well worth it. Thanks for all the work you do to bring us these videos in your "non-real jobs."

Hi Jeff! Welcome to the crew! We haven't gone into much depth on the galley because we wanted to give it a bit of a makeover before we did. Rest assured it will get a comprehensive feature in an upcoming video when we reveal all the modifications and explain our systems. Stay tuned. Pascale

Troy, Quick question: with a trip ourselves in the pipe line for Port Davey, and knowing very little about radio, the weather reports received via short radio - are you just listening to weather reports or are you converting received information into images via laptop and software like say weather fax?

T
Troy and Pascale · June 21, 2020

We were getting the 3 day forecast and synopsis via SW radio but didn't convert to fax to see the chart. We tuned to VMC and I've attached the link to the Met Office for times and frequency to use to pick up warnings on the hour and forecasts every 4 hours. We found 8176khz to be a channel that received best over a range of conditions.

Troy! I wonder what YOU watch on Youtube? this is my second favorite youtube channel,,,, right up your alley. https://www.youtube.com/user/coldwarmotors/videos

It might surprise people to know that we generally watch channels featuring regenerative agriculture topics as it interests us but is not something we can directly experience while sailing. We both like to use YT for learning to do something quickly that we might not do again regularly. When we're out sailing, we don't get much bandwidth all the time so we read more than anything.

Wait? What did I just hear? A personalized (CROCODILE related!!!) shout out from 2 of my favoritest people on our ocean planet? Right when a "warm fuzzy" REALLY hits me in my heartbone? I've had quite the "interesting" week at work, the pandemic is revving up WAY too close to me, we are getting apocalyptic-ish weather and the main bridge that ties my part of coastal south Florida together is literally crumbling, but all is now well in my world. I suppose I should go watch the rest of the kayak video now ;-) Thanks Pascale and Troy. I really do treasure our friendship more than even I can say. (Insert soppy heart emojis here ;-) )

Sounds like a crocodile themed message is the least we can do for you mate- sounds like things are stretching your sense of humour over there. It slipped our minds here in the cold that it was hurricane season in your part of the world. We know very well how mother nature can bring all sorts of stresses on top of the usual ups and downs and our best wishes can only help a little but you have them nonetheless. Take care mate.

OMG. Do you have a tankeless on demand water heater. Marey makes one smaller than a briefcase (I have one). No electricity and virtually small amounts of propane for an instant short hot water shower.

We looked at a few outdoor water heaters but couldn't justify the space and water consumption. There were several days of cold kayaking that we would have killed for a hot shower though. It was a very difficult decision to not get one.

Superb! Love your explore sessions. Those kayaks are choice. Any bush tucker to speak of? Hope the refit is going nicely!

There are a few plants that are edible but we wouldn't compare them to the berries and herbs available in the Northern Hemisphere. Later, we did get some more abalone and lobster though! We are at the cabinet installation phase of the refit now.Should look a lot better in a week. :)

Been thinking about getting a Sangean or something similar? What frequency is the weather on?

T
Troy and Pascale · June 19, 2020

Here is a good starting page for the frequencies required and the program times: http://www.bom.gov.au/marine/radio-sat/voice-services.shtml

Enjoyed the episode! Those Kayaks look fantastic! I added an inflatable 2 person Kayak to my wish list, and received it for my birthday last month. It's an inexpensive little craft, but my wife and I are thoroughly enjoying it! Fantastic way to explore, and it will serve as an easily stowable tender while doing a bit of cruising on the lake. Those carrots looked fantastic, and so did the potatoes! Must be tough to edit after a day of refitting.... Much appreciated, friends!

We were amazed at the range available in inflatable yaks. The double looked good but we ended up deciding to have two for the safety factor given the places we end up! Strong agree with them being fantastic for exploring. We can really poke into some tight places in those little boats.

The 'stuff' rule: Stuff expands to fill the space available for it. A bigger boat wouldn't help.
