Something Completely Different - Episode 133

In this week's episode we sail into Hobart for a couple of weeks city time in February.  You'll get a taste of the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) one of the most bizarre places we've ever been to. It's like a tour of a super villain's liar! We also chat about our provisions and their cost for our upcoming trip to the West Coast of Tasmania.

As the title suggests, it's a bit different this week but, we think, it's a lot of fun.

Well coffee, tea and breakfast is over and the sun is up so it's time for us to scoot down to the marina and get a first coat of paint on Mirrool's galley/salloon.

Cheers

Troy and Pascale

I liked the food details, especially about the Ghee. Thanks for clarifying..... (}c;

Very nice bit of dad-jokery. We are humbled.

MONA is brilliant and totally worth a visit. We actually flew down from Melbourne, took the MONA bus and spent the day in the MONA and took the MONA bus back to the airport and flew back to Melbourne. The museum is mind blowing and disturbing in some cases but it is designed to push the envelope. The amazing thing is the money from David is from gambling!

We had heard that those riches came from the ides of casinos. Amazing reversal of the usual flow of cash in that instance. The indirect benefit to local businesses and the commnity from MONA can't be estimated. Weird, disturbing, brilliant!

fantastic museum! reminds me of the modern art museum in Amsterdam. that was my favourite when I was a kid.

It was definitely an expectation defying experience. There was even a couch that purred and moved when you sat on it or patted it. I think even Salvadore Dali would be moved by that place.

Would love see that museum! Hope your galley/saloon painting and all the refitting projects are going well, my friends!

Today marked the final epoxy filets for our quarter berth reconstruction project and tomorrow they get painted. Thast means cabinetry and wiring the boat can commence!

Ah, the fabled Pascy tease intro! I always think that its your way of gently teasing some of the the other channels who, shall we say, "push the envelope ;-). No worries though, you are very beautiful however you choose to dress, or not ;-). And Hobart! Wow, I do believe I've added a before I die spot! I love how you two travel.. " Here we find a wild Pascy & Troy. As is their wont, whether in their usual watery habitat, or well inland, no matter where they go they make themselves right at home and best of all, they share all the very best bits with us!" Thanks you two, you really do add some much needed joy into this tattered old world. I sincerely thank you :-). Oh yeah (I'll confess to taking notes on this one) "Stinky but Different!". GREAT Band Name! Love you two... Tim

Lol, no tease, just feeling chipper after a swim in Tassie temperatures! It is very beautiful here and if you need any more coaxing to visit, we have never seen so many Tiger Snakes. Quite docile here compared to our West Australian ones but still not to be cuddled. Stinky but different should really be our byline.

Hi guys Just asking if you plan on doing another run on tees & hoodies? Also have you thought about selling other stiff like, stickers, mugs, stubbie holders etc etc. Thanks guys.

Troy and Pascale · June 5, 2020

The shirts and hoodies we always have at cost for patrons, any time of year, at this link: https://www.bonfire.com/frs-patron-only/ We are not too enthusiastic about other merchandise except dry-bags if we can source good quality ones. Perhaps mugs is another good idea if they are insulated and would be valued by outdoors people. We definitely welcome ideas from you all for high quality products with the least chance of becoming landfill!

Went through MONA early 2016, needed more than a day! Will go there again maybe next year after I get my Daydream28 finished, pinching some of your ideas, very similar boat though much older and a little shorter than Mirrool, looking forward to seeing your renovations finished, thinking I'll change Daydream's saloon layout much like Mirrool's, tight but practical! Keep up great work Pascale and Troy, see you out there one day!

We do often see other 30 footers that sacrifice galley space for extra settee but we think it is a mistake unless its just a stove for heating up a can of food! We will definitely be responding to the many requests for a boat tour once the refit is done we promise!

I found MONA really needs more than one day to fully appreciate it, saw

Loved seeing Hobart, might have to make that in our down under plans. Question though, regarding the US AUS exchange rate, As a US Patreon I donate in US dollars. Do you receive that as US Dollars? The equivelent AUS dollar with the exchange? Or $1 US to $1 AUS? I would hope the exchange applies.

T
Troy and Pascale · June 5, 2020

Hi David. We get all patron contributions in US dollars. So all good there. Hobart is a really cool city. MONA is a must-see. Cheers Pasc
