WE SCREWED UP! - Episode 114

Happy New Year Patrons!

Join us this week as we explain how we broke our boom on a fast downwind sail and we take you through how we made a temporary repair once arrived in Port Stephens. The boom repair was made 2 months ago and is still holding up well. We haven't replaced the boom yet but we are planning to once we get down to Hobart in February.

On that note, are there any patrons in Tasmania that would like to catch up with us while we are here? If that is you, please let us know by sending us a direct message or responding in the comments below!

Cheers

Pascale and Troy

I'm far behind on my video watching--working on my own yacht projects--but trying to catch up. Brilliant job on the repair. Great to see good spirits on display after a mishap. Like Troy said, screw-ups happen; we've all had them.

The test is if you can manage them and most importantly learn from them. I do like to listen to how other yachties got around a mess because there is always a lesson in it and a story is much cheaper than the real thing!

Screwed up myself, didn't break a mast (Boom!) but spent a day on our maiden voyage with Capers pumping the water and diesel out of the diesel tank. I

That's a tough break but so much better than diesel in the water tank!

You’re a pretty damned capable marine engineer there, mate! What scares me is I know I have the glass and resin aboard, but until today, I never would have even considered that repair! Well done to both of you...as usual!

If just one of our videos gives you an idea that helps get you out of trouble one day, we will feel well rewarded Doc.

Nicely done repair!! Glad to hear it is holding up... Hope you're able to find a suitable replacement at a reasonable price. Happy New Year, friends! May 2020 be a year of health, happiness, fair wind, calm seas, and more wonderful adventures to share with us!

We have a lead on a replacement. We just have to get to the bottom of Tasmania (Hobart) with the old one. Happy New Year to you and your family as well Scott!

Great video. 1) Thanks for educating this "lake sailor" about tides and bars and such. 2) You went to a lot of trouble to educate us about making temporary repairs to your mast, I mean boom. 3) Just a great video, as always! Thanks so much!

Are you going to try and repost the last episode?

T
Troy and Pascale · January 3, 2020

Didn't it work for you John?

I was hoping for at least audio of when it happened 😬😁😬😂😅🤣😂 lol 😎. Great patch job Troy 👍 So glad I am not the only one who has bizzare things happen to them sailing! I've got a stop knot in my topping lift now! Hahaha!

T
Troy and Pascale · January 3, 2020

Going sailing IS a bizarre happening. We have the same knot!😂

Dave Sunde · January 3, 2020

How are you affected by the fires?

T
Troy and Pascale · January 3, 2020

It reduced visibility on the water and the air was definitely less fresh but we were more emotionally affected for the people who are going into 2020 with such losses.

Oh My! But yes, it did make for "good content". I am glad that you came through safely. Happy New year my friends!

Thanks Tim. Safe and sound, just some egg on face!
