A hand built Pirate Ship: Notorious in New South Wales - Episode 112
Come with us for a week long jaunt up the Clarence River in New South Wales where we meet the crew and take a tour of the Notorious, a hand built replica 15th century Portugese Caravel!
We've got to say that this was the MOST fun we've had in ages putting a video together, we really hope you enjoy this one and all of its eclectic music!
We've so much gratitude for your support so that we can continue to make these videos.
So thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Troy and Pascale

Hi guys - great episode thank you - Pascale did you refer to the baby monkey wrench as a baby Bobbejaan? If you did, greetings from South Africa!
Haha, Thank you Louis. Troy worked with a Saffy engineer and picked it up from him. He often says "You there! Pass along that bobbejaan" It took a while before I knew what he was talking about.馃ぃ
Fantastic episode! Solid old tools are tough to pass up. I could see and feel Troy's pain... The Notorious tour and visit with her builder and captain was very compelling. The pump out was very well managed. A fitting farewell to all the wonderful meals we've seen prepared and consumed in previous episodes ;)
Hahaha. We'll have to re-christen that deck fitting as the Farewell Fitting.
Great episode! I really enjoyed it and also learned a lot.
We couldn't ask for more! Thanks Mark.
Well, if you ever make it to Florida, besides taking you to my favorite haunts in The Florida Everglades, Troy can drool over my rather ridiculous collection of old iron! The Stillson wrench was quite a breakthrough at the time in pipe wrenches and held sway for decades. It was edged out by the modern internal spring "Ridgid" design... Loved the video, they have been quite sweet and fun of late! (I post a lot of my old tool finds on Instagram. I shall also have to confess to a certain vise Vice! Thnaks as always!
I think a trip out among the flats and mangroves followed by rummaging around in a shed full of well loved tools may be his idea of heaven Tim. There was the possibility of a boat upgrade recently (didn't happen) and he was planning what vice to get! 馃槃
What a great video! The Notorious, great towns, misty mornings, and even a septic cleanout. This one had it all.... :-) I don't mean to insult you, but Pascale, you said "molasses" just like an American. :-)
Lol, that would be pretty low on the insult scale Charlie! The Clarence really was quite beautiful and meeting the Notorious was the cherry on the top 馃崚
Decoy Duck, that's the word! Not to be confused with a Disco Duck, that's something completely different. Thank you both for the tour of easy-yo supply centres, you'll find those useful containers in most second-hand emporiums around here too, must be a worldwide phenomenon. I felt Troy's pain in his dilemma of putting that Stillson Wrench back on the shelf, I've been carrying one that size in my tool bag, and using it every couple of days for 48 Years! As for the Notorious, not at first glance a pretty ship, but as Troy said, the craftsmanship is something else. Leo Goolden has used a lot of Treenails in his rebuild of Tally-Ho up there on the far edge of the North Pacific, to hold the Frames and Fashion-pieces together, and I cannot begin to imagine just how long and tedious it must have been to make enough to plank Notorious with. Fit and forget though, you just can't beat tried and trusted for fasteners!
That whole tool section was traumatic to walk away from. There was plenty of Sheffield Steel and old US stuff gathering dust. Solid and dependable. I guess treenails can only be a feature of a vessel built with passion. There won't be many shipyard managers too pleased with the routine of making and fitting such a bombproof fixture but their elegance was extremely pleasing.
I really liked the music, and the longer episode.
We love trying to match the music to the scene. Pascy has a real talent for it. The film was fun to make and has a nice feel to it for us.

Great episode, The Notorious was amazing馃憤
We thought so too! We'd seen it in Gladstone and Brisbane and we were pretty excited that we finally got to step aboard and meet Graeme and Felicite in Maclean.
