Finding Fish - Free Range Sailing Ep 94

Top of the morning to you fine patrons!

After months of sitting out stormy weather, we get a favourable weather report to head out to the Great Barrier Reef. Our first stop is Fitzroy Reef in the Capricorn Bunker group, a reef lagoon anchorage offering world class diving and fishing.

Troy talks fish and where to find them, we go snorkelling along the pass into the lagoon, as well as, free diving and spearfishing on the outer edge of the reef in 14 metres of water.

We were pretty excited to be back out in the clear blue water among the fish, sharks and turtles and we really hope you enjoy this week's instalment.

I don't know how you two do it. You keep topping your already amazing videos! The edit and the music and both of you being so good at capturing the other, its literally breathtaking! And speaking of breath, I think you must have a deal with some other worldly power! The whole package is simply deadly..... I could add a few thousand more words, but I'll end with two. Thank you!!!!! (OK, you know me, more words.I simply HAVE to dive OZ! I've been lucky, I grew up in South Florida in the 60s when the waters were still quite pristine. I snorkeled long before I could ride a bike! I've dove and snorkeled Florida, The Bahamas, the Caribbean, the Yucatan , the Greek isles, Hawaii and even Easter Island. But I simply MUST get to OZ!.. (before I'm too damn old!). I truly love what you are gifting to us. Thank you. (Tim)

You're very welcome Tim! Yes you absolutely must get over to the Great Barrier Reef in your lifetime. The diving is absolutely world class. You will not regret it AND after you've gone diving you can go north and hang out with the crocs ;-) Pas

I bet you had a lot more fun swimming than I did watching you folks swim. And no I didn't hold my breath as long...Show Off! :-)

You can bet that there was a few deep breathes at the surface coming up from that dive! It was also Pascales best to date at 1:45 minutes.

Favourite episode yet. Chilled tunes. Classy edit. Super booby drone shot. Acro looks super healthy at Fitzroy. Perfect closing with the bubble rings. Gasping. Inspiring. Thank you!

We found some acro getting pressure from Crown of Thorns Starfish at the eastern wave edge. They haven't built into sufficient numbers to do really widespread damage yet. Our last dive there was to the background music of grumbling humpback whales!

Fantastic diving footage!!!! Love the drone shots showing us your anchorage in the lagoon too. Helps to get a feel for the place. Enjoyed the education on fish coloring and depth. Thank you!

Those drone shots are really great for illustrating reef passes and anchoring points,as well as being pretty spectacular. I guess not everyone thinks of fire-engine red skin colour as a camouflage technique.

I was up in the Togian Islands off the coast of Sulawesi doing a bit of carpentry for a couple of months and diving off the dive boat one day for a snorkel out on a reef I was shocked at the speed of the current! I soon learned how to escape by swimming sideways to the shallower reef water and working the eddy effect but man that first plunge was heart-racing powerful, and I thought I was a goner as the two spotters on the boat I knew where going to be napping for the next hour.

I've seen a few people fooled by a placid looking tropical reef pass dragged away before they realised how far they had drifted. Had to rescue three in my time as a dive guide. I didn't know I could have avoided all that trouble with a nice little nap though.
