Mango Madness - Episode 81

This week we head back out to Hook Island in the Whitsundays for some rest and relaxation after having entertained the family and our friend, AB, over the previous 2 weeks.

We enjoy an incredible sunset, have a sensational return to Airlie Beach under fully reefed sails and assist our mate in harvesting and processing a ton of mangoes!

Hope you all enjoy it!

Pascale

PS - Do you think the sunset we saw has topped all others we've seen so far!? They were some pretty crazy sepia colours. Really different to any sunset I've ever experienced before.  I think there may have been some smoke in the air from nearby sugar cane farms doing their annual burn offs.

That combo sounds pretty unbeatable Robert. We like to run a conservative sail plan for whatever conditions prevail. We aren't often the fastest boat out there but enjoying a nice cup of tea in 30 knots makes up for it.

A recipe shared on our local Radio the other week was to spread a Pizza base with Mango chutney, cover with longways sliced Bananas and cover with mild cheese to cook in an oven for 10 minutes. I had to try it, but did find the mango chutney I bought too sweet. I've just checked the Squeezy bottle for the Mango Chutney and the ingredients start Sugar, Mangos(45%) Acidity regulator etc. So I make that 45% Sugar! I guess fresh Mangos would be about right then.

Grilled chicken, mayo, salt & pepper, and fresh mango on sour dough bread...yum! Tricky bit of sailing done right with that casual- 'toothpick look'...taking tea, while the other guys sails were all over the place whipping in the wind. Troy.. you're just too cool...

the wine glass thing just scares me a bit because I keep thinking "shards". Pushing down onto a cutting edge... you're not doing it until the glass breaks, but once you are it's potentially quite exciting. But I suspect it's also one of those "clumsy people have different expectations"... like the cut-throat razor, given how much damage I do to myself with a "safety razor" the cut-throat option just seems like a bad idea.

It's all about accepting your limits I guess Moz but good plastic wine glasses are available now for yachties and mango lovers!

Wonderful sailing! I've finally learned how manage in the fickle winds on the lake, which are similar to yours in this episode. Recently learned to reef according the heavier gusts so my skills and tender little boat can manage it. Sadly, I'm not rewarded with mangoes!

I've often said to people that learning to make a sailing boat go only takes a few days but doing it well takes a lifetime! We spend longer times now on a plateau before the next steep up-curve in ability comes along but we continue to learn about wind and sail as we make our way.
