Free Diving an Inner Lagoon on the Great Barrier Reef - Episode 77
Come with us as we explore the underwater world of our anchorage at Little Black Reef. It's a bit different to our usual dives and, after our dive, as we are leaving the reef, we discuss the differences. On our way back to the Whitsunday Islands, we discover that the engine is overheating due to an impeller malfunction and Troy comes up with a cunning work around.
We hope you enjoy this second installment out at the reef!
Much love
Troy and Pascale

Thanks for another 'Aquarium' episode! There are more fish and Coral there than I see in my daily life, so even if it's not enough for Troy, I'm happy! I spied that on that oversized Impellor, the pin goes right through to the outside of the 'Rubber' hub, which would help alleviate the adhesion of that to the metal hub, an obvious measure that I'm surprised that was not done in the original manufacture as standard. Maybe the thinking was that as it is a wear and tear item they'd just let it tear as much as wear?
We had the same observation as you and we've often wondered why they didn't do it! Sometimes its hard to know whether its an engineering or bean counting decision...
Do you ever worry about scrapping your body against the coral as it gets very close to the top of the water, when you are snorkeling ? Keep up the good work Troy and Pascale.
Sometimes. It's pretty rare that I go free diving without my rash vest on but I wanted to get a bit of a tan! I'm definitely more careful about getting to close to coral without the rash vest and gloves on.
That inner reef is growing on me. I love the health of the corals and the quantities of fish. Here in Florida we are having issues with both, sadly... Good save (saves) on the impeller Troy!
I liked it too! Troy would argue that it wasn't fishy enough but there were plenty of little fish hanging out in the corals and the blue green reef chromis twinkling in the sunlight is always very pretty.
Excellent dive footage! Really great music choice for that particular cut. Thanks so much for your efforts.
Thanks Rex! Spoonbill (who made the the track for the dive footage) is an Australian artist and a very good friend of one of our mates. We love his tunes and were honoured when he said we could use them in our videos. You can look forward to hearing more in future episodes.
Enjoyed the dive footage at the reef, and also the debriefing about the differences between it and your other reef dives... Very disappointing to be provided the wrong part, especially by an authorized dealer, but brilliant and fortunate that Troy had repaired that old impeller as a back up!!
Yes - the cunning Troy strikes again. I really enjoyed diving the calm lagoon waters even if it wasn't fishy enough for Troy's tastes! I'm glad you did too Scott! P
