We Run Aground (no big deal)- Episode 60
Entering the creek in beautiful Zoe Bay we run afoul of a sandbar. We talk you through what we did to come off the sandbar including the problems we encountered. During this episode we also fly our new drone for the first time to capture the spectacular scenery including the very strong tide ripping through our little anchorage! Our time at Zoe Bay ends with a visit Zoe Bay Falls where we get familiar with some of the freshwater jungle perch living in the freshwater pools.
Thank you so much for your contributions that allowed us to purchase the drone and get some spectacular footage of our anchorage, as well as, frolicking in the Zoe Bay Falls. We are treating the drone like our third camera man so you might pick up that we used it in some other parts of the video as well (let us know below if you picked up where!).
I really enjoyed editing this video, the stunning scenery of Zoe Bay was like being back in the Kimberley again (except without as many crocodiles). I hope the video captures this for you all.
Sending love to you and your loved ones
Pascale
PS- This is coming to you as we explore another beautiful part of the Queensland coast, the Whitsunday Islands with my parents and my brothers. So we will reply on our return! Pictures also coming soon for you.

In the middle of the world's biggest binge while getting over the flu. I am the proudest new FRS patrons. The quality of the production has just exploded from this point, including the introduction of the static underwater Sony shots and the discussion on knives. So epic and am totally honoured. Wow!
It amazes me that you can buy and fly a lethal thing like a drone no insurance no regulation when you fly model planes even gliders you have to be a member of a club and carry 1000000 dollars of public liability insurance and have strict legislated rules as where and how they are flown. not winging just amazed!
We got a permit and studied the legislation but totally agree with you. We've seen people doing some really invasive, dangerous and stupid stuff with drones.
Great episode folks. OBTW, the FRS hoodie arrived yesterday and its very nice. TY for the discount!
Hope it wears well for years to come. The quality seems quite good.
The drone footage of the tidal race was mesmerising the holding must have been good.
Once again , fantastic! Love the perch! Look like tasty lil items! Why can't you fish them?
Just about everything is protected on the island to preserve is World Heritage status. That little pool would be very vulnerable to overfishing.
Drone footage can be a nice addition as long as it supports the content and the story. How to put it...? It should feel natural... flowing... hardly noticeable. It's the same rule as one can apply to using filters on cameras. You use them to make the image better... not because you have them. The drone shots from above the anchorage were spot-on and helpful to show us the precarious situation and how much tidal current was actually happening. Note: drone footage can look a bit choppy (like it stutters, not smooth) when there are different frame rate settings. E.g. you're editing in e.g. 24 fps, while the footage was shot at 30 fps. Hopefully you editing program has something like a 'automatic-speed' correction you can apply to sync the shots, because you cannot change 30fps setting in the DJI-Spark.
We have always said we want our footage to be secondary to a great story. We've never handled a drone before so the shots will hopefully get better as we become more proficient in handling and settings. You are watching our maiden flights here.
Fab-u-lous .... awe-some-too .... go, friends, you’re living the dreams of many!
We couldn't do it without you guys!
Enjoying your video production and editing, the new camera gear is really giving you a great look! Was the underwater video filmed with the SONY Adventure cam? Looking forward to more fishing adventures... after all Troy "Likes to eat
Yes all underwater scenes are from the Sony now as well as low shot POV angles. When we were boulder hopping, that was an interesting set shot using the drone hovering as was Pascale doing that wonderful belly flop but with a second camera to get the audio as well. We experiment constantly to make the most interesting scenes we can as we aren't formally trained in this stuff and have to make it up as we go.
I'm only 2/3ds of the way through and I HAVE to start my comment! Everything about your videos is just blossoming! From the incredible way you capture each other's play time, to the truly cinema-esque style of the drone, I am just "blown away". I LOVE it... And that ending.... I love seeing how in love you are.... tim
I'll even forgive the lack of crocodile sightings! ;-)
I'm glad that you've got a third camera perspective, I think that you are sensible and careful enough to use it properly, not intimidating wildlife etc. Having said that it would have made some awesome footage of the Crocs in the North! Most channels with boats and drones seem to try and catch them by hand under way, or even when on the Hook, yet most of you have perfectly good horizontal flat glass topped landing areas, just needing a catch net round like the Helipads on oil rigs or ships do! Just a thought. Wonderful Video again, Your love for Your Country and each other is so evident.
I was just joking this morning Andy, saying to Pascy that wre need to paint a tiny 'H' on our dodger.
Wow what a sky and what a sunset hope the bities went to bad.
Surprisingly civilized. Mid wet season might be a touch ferocious though.
Wow! Great episode! I love the drone footage, especially for the lay of the anchorage and to experience the magnificence of the pool and falls. I understand Moz's concern that it may comprimise the personal feeling of your videos, which are so engaging! My impression is that the drone will become wonderful tool once you learn the pros and cons and dial it in with your own unique style. I also loved the diving with the perch, and the artsy ending! Your run in with the sand bar is a huge part of my challenge. My home waters are lakes and rivers--very skinny in spots. That, and being mainly intersted in coastal cruising, I may end up opting for a shoal draft or perhaps a centerboard rig when it's time to step up. Not good for what you two are doing, but likely a good comprimise for me. As much as I'd like to venture into blue water, at my age and ability it's likely not in the cards....
There is so much fun to be had on the small waters with great fishing, camping and wildlife watching that is unavailable to Bluewater sailors. Crossing oceans is fine but give us gunkholing any day!
I really like the chill ending, good song selection and good footage. AND, love those Queensland night sounds.
Ending with a kiss seemed right.
I'm guessing from the slight swaying that some of the "watch them walk past" stuff was drone, and the smooth PoV following the walking track. Had to look for it, and it wasn't enough to distract, but I reckon I could spot it. That stuff worked for me. Watching again, I think part of what makes your channel work for me is the personal engagement. And the high aerial stuff somehow detracts from that, I think because it breaks the "we are here doing this" spell by jumping to a gods-eye view. I'm not saying don't do it, just that the more overt the drone nature of the shot is, the less immersive the personal-story side is. Maybe use those more for set-up and summary stuff?
We got the drone as a 3rd camera man and want to try to do shots the may not look like drone shots. There will be some aerial shots in dramatic country but the drone footage will only ever be seconds not minutes of our episodes. The POV along the track was the action camera being hand held. Good fun experimenting with our angles.
Drone footage, very nice. Even more to look forward to.
