Escape to the Rain Forest - Episode 53

Finally I finished this one! It took WAY longer than I expected. I really hope you enjoy it and the time finessing it shines through.

This is a video about our trip to Kuranda near Cairns, exploring the surrounding rain forest from the sky rail, land and train. We also check out the markets, wildlife parks and food on offer. It's the Free Range Sailing tourist edition, hope you don't mind a small departure from boat related shenanigans.

Wishing you all the best wherever you are

Pascale

Absolutely fantastic and very interesting. Nice to see you in a different environment. Isabelle says Pascale is beautiful. Wish we could meet you one day! Great video. We watched it before work since we don’t feel like work.

We would love to meet you both also. Florida is definitely on our "go-to" list when we make it to the States. Love to you and Isabelle.

During our first trip to AUS one of the couples we would meet up with in the Whitsundays stopped first in Cairns. Pretty sure they didn't do this, but I'll be thinking of including it on one of our next visits. Great job!

You definitely should David it's an excellent spot. Try not to go during school holidays. We did accidentally and it was a little hectic for our tastes!

THANK YOU! Yes, you did it, you took us on the Skyrail! And what a treat of a trip it was, there is no way that I will ever be able to come over there and go and visit myself, so you've made this old Fella on the opposite side of the World very happy to see what you see once again.

That's amazing! We spent a day with Alan Gillanders up there, tearing round looking at wildlife and learned a lot. He's awesome and packs a lot into the day if you're up to it. By comparison the self-guided stuff was very relaxing :) All the labels in the parks are really useful. I'm glad they're becoming more common. Taking photos of them for narration is a cunning trick (that everyone does)

right - and if you want to geek out you can pause the video and get the latin names of the plants!

Even though this is one of your longer episodes, it never felt like that.... It had a nice natural pace & tempo. Compliments to you editor Pascale !! Question: which editing program do you use? Sometimes your footage could use a little tweaking, meaning a little adjustment in contrast; a little more black and/or a little less high lights... The camera's you (and I) use have a tendency to look a little 'flat' occasionally. E.g. I use FinalCutProX, and someone had to teach and tell me how to do that, which is actually, once you know it, very easily and quickly done and improves the quality of your footage so much. Not only contrast but also saturation (more or less colour) can be corrected in an instant. That being said, your story-telling (and energy) is way more important than the quality of your imaging.

Birds and nature walks. That is my life! You both make excellent guides.

Wonderful outing, very enjoyable to watch... entertaining and a nice dosage of education and information. "With a little love, you can change the world..."; you guys are exactly doing that, by sharing these adventures (with your lovely energy) with the world.

Thanks for those lovely words Rob - I did do the color correcting on this one. We use Da Vinci Resolve which has excellent color correcting software. I didn't go too hard on the contrast and shadows because I didn't want the picture to look unnatural. Still learning will try and bring it up a little more in future videos. Your advice always welcome and appreciated. Cheers Pascale

Brought back memories of a trip there with my 3 boys in 1999. We were living in Saipan and had a long weekend trip. I asked an Aussie friend from Cairn why they didn’t pronounce the “R” in Cairns. He looked at me like I was crazy. “We do!” And so began the two of us shouting Cairns at each other, each of us obviously hearing something different. .

My wife and I were up at cape tribulation last year about this time and it was so dry and the feral pigs had done so much damage to the rain-forest it was rather depressing hope the wet was good it was so dry. The day we flew out of Cairns the Trinity forest was able and our flights were almost cancelled because of the smoke

There was a pretty good wet season this year. Check out this video I found of the Barron Falls in full flow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Kfdo9ryTk8

Isn't Kuranda a great spot! Did you meet Winjella the local Artist in the market what a l overly man .

T
Troy and Pascale · October 5, 2018

No we didn't but yes we loved the place. A few too many people than we are used to in and around the markets and the skyrail but the rain forest walk the next day was sublime. Pascale
