Cleaning Carburettors and a little bit of History – Episode 36

Troy shows how to service the fuel jets on our 2-stroke outboard motor. We visit some historical sites on Thursday Island including the Cemetery and Green Hill Fort Gun Emplacements. Returning to the boat we wage a war on the invading mould that has appeared all over the boat after the previous week of rain.

Do find Oil of Cloves is more effective. Hirundo needs a regular scrubbing inside. Folks also need to know Snow White (bleach) just makes it look clean - it does not kill the spores.

Yup with the added benefit that once you've done the vinegar and clove oil treatment the whole boat smells like we've been cooking pickles

Mould - Lots of work to do. What do you do with fabrics that have become mouldy? Here on land I would chuck them into the washer and let it do the work.

Mouldy fabric is tricky. Bleach and commercial stain removers sometimes work but a few t-shirts and tea towels have been ruined. Troy is battling with mould that has started growing inside his canvas hat, it's been subjected to bicarb and salt water scrubbing which has killed it but we can't remove the stains.
