The Nude Latitude - Episode 31

Join us as we sail across the Gulf of Carpentaria in the middle of the wet season. We face doldrums and storm systems, enjoy a lot of great fishing and a swim with a school of sharks!

In case you were wondering, yes we are a few months behind on the videos. This crossing was made from 2 January - 6 January 2018.

Hope you enjoy!

Pascale

Lol, that sounds pretty adventurous to me Jack

I suppose you're never too old for adventure, that's for sure! I think it's just the degree of adventure! Recently I sailed singlehanded my 29footer for two days day sails in 4metre seas wind over tide, wind right on the nose and at times an overheating 2 banger Volvo penta doing she best. Never lost sight of the English coastline thinking ( stupidity), if she sinks I could always swim the mile or two to shore....... no sharks in the English Channel is time of year..........

Yes that sounds pretty mental Jack glad you made it through alive - beats our doldrum motoring any day!!!

Another great video! Like Brent, I was concerned for your safety as tornado season is here in Tennessee. Did you decide what the white thing was that was coming out of the sail fish's gill? Was it some type of parasite?

T
Troy and Pascale · April 3, 2018

Yes some type of parasite - identity unknown! We're generally pretty safe on Mirrool and we picked a window to cross the Gulf in January when there was no adverse weather. Thanks for your concern though Scott did any tornados hit your area this year? they must be an incredibly scary thing to see!

Thanks for the ongoing videos I enjoy them very much. My wife and I hope to do something like this sometime but for now, being new to sailing, we are happy exploring Moreton bay here at Brisbane. I hope you get the support to continue on with your adventure.

Thanks for your patronage Richard! We'll be sure to organise a patron catch up when we get to Brisbane, we'd love to meet you both. We'll be heading down the Queensland coast in the next few weeks and we plan to be in Cairns to do some boat work in June/July then on to Brisbane later in the year.

Thanks Pascale, an ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure. Odds are nothing bad would happen but why even take the chance. Love the videos.

Enjoyable video Brent and Pascale. Congrats Pascale on your first sailfish and first in Queensland. One thing I would like to see is for you to add leg straps to your life vest. Story out this week of a man losing his wife of 30 plus years when she was swept overboard and hit her head, he had her safety strap around a winch to pull her in when she slipped out of her life vest and was lost at sea. I think you could add some to the ones you have now without any trouble, that is what I am doing to mine.

Thanks Orville! Troy and I will definitely look into this safety measure! Perhaps I can wear my waterproof climbing harness and lifejacket when on watch so that doesn't happen.
