Carl's Try to Make Friends Smart Interaction v1.03

One thing that always bothered me in Sims 4, was how stuffed up the socials menu is and just how many clicks it can take to queue up even 3-4 socials. Worse, sometimes you have done a lot of them and the game decides to dump your entire queue, or the NPC decides to walk away soon after you start.
Try to Make Friends is phase one of a larger project that I intend to expand. This mod addresses the problem of clicking, and allows you to put a Sim on autopilot in an attempt to make friends. It tries to do this intelligently.

Fixed the very glitchy looking issue when canceling or exiting out of Try to Make Friends "mode". It is a very nice, clean exit now with no Sims plopping back on the couch :)
Smarter Sim Choices
If Sims gaffe and apologize becomes available, it will be higher priority. If the other Sim is in a bad mood, it will try to cheer them up. On initial meeting, Sims will try the socials that a player in-the-know might use, such as brighten day, compliment outfit, and flatter in an attempt to give the other Sim a happy buff.
Try to Make Friends will never repeat the same interaction twice. It can get stuck in a back and forth if your Sim has few socials, but if you have plenty of options it will take advantage and choose from a curated list of decent socials.
A Lively Conversation
This is not a one-sided thing, as when you have your Sim talk to other Sims by queuing up lots of socials. I felt it would feel more REAL if the other Sim got to get a word in and use socials of their own. So the other Sim will also get to use a social here and there, creating a more lively conversation.
It will run for a few hours unless you stop it, but as a smart player might do, if the conversation is going very badly and your Sim is LOSING relationship (based on the highest they've achieved) then TTMF will stop and prevent putting you into a hole.
While this is automated, Sims can still fail like usual, it's just saving you clicking by selecting normal socials that don't have major functions (no move in, and not even ask to be best friends). I leave the major ones up to you to do on your own.
Saving You a Thousand Clicks
I believe this will be a major boost to family players who might like to save some time and put a Sim in this mode without clicking dozens of times to make a single friend. It may in fact make playing a family a bit less tedious.
Future Plans
This mod is the groundwork for a larger system. I plan to expand this to romance, but romance is a bit more complex, as any player who understands the systems can tell you. Interactions that are touching, like hug and kiss might become available very early but should not be used right away unless the moment is right. I'd like this to allow Sims to flirt, in a separate social.
For now, I'd like to gather lots of feedback on how this works before I dig into romance and make the mod more complicated. I've released this as a freebie, though the more advanced version will end up going to my Early Access Patrons first.
Instructions: Unzip the file and place the contents in your Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods folder. ENSURE SCRIPT MODS ARE ENABLED in Game Options > Other or the mod will not function.

This is one of my all time fav mods. Would luv a 'try for romance' variant. Maybe it could be made as a standalone version so players can pick and choose and hopefully make it simpler to mod.
This is excellent! I've recently come back to 4 from The Sims 3 and I immediately missed the Socialize Friendly/Funny/Flirty (and Mean) options.

This mod is so helpful, and I can't play without it; however, recently I've noticed that Sims get quickly bored and relationship increase stalls when using the interaction. Are there plans to patch or look at this mod for recent versions? Again, it's such a must-have!

I don't really know how hard it is to make a mod, and this kind of mods, but if you could make one for the other kind of interaction such as romantic or mean, it would be cool too. Great job 🤍🤍✨

This is so amazing! Before I download, I wanted to know if this conflicts with MCCC settings if I have certain autonomous interactions disabled?
It shouldn't conflict. TTMF will fire off on your sim as a user-chosen interaction :)

Hi...wondering if Try To Make Friends is compatible with the 2/27 patch? (I imagine GamePlay Overhaul update is taking most of your time!)
I couldn't get it to work for me in the newest patch. It was in my mods folder but I couldn't get the interaction to show up in game. This patch messed up a bunch of mods :(
Is there any way to have the option to not include talking about the supernatural, specifically vampires?? It seems like all my sims do is praise vampiric lifestyle or talk about existence of vampires... Other than that, I absolutely love this!!

In the new update or in the new expansion pack (I'm not sure anymore) the interactions have been sorted. E.g. Friendly interactions are now divided into hobbies, interests etc. "Tray to make Freinds" works after this interactions sorting a bit strange.

I finally downloaded this mod - I love it! The back and forth dialog is sooo much better than idle chatter. This may only be a "small mod" but I cannot imagine playing without it. Thank you, Carl!

I've been wanting something like this for sooo long, especially after playing the Sims 2 again and using the "hang out" option obsessively lol... any chance you can make this possible for a group (or maybe at least an "ask to join" option) extra brownie points if you can manage having them sitting on the floor :D (Do they ever sit on the floor in the Sims 4?)

This is one of my all-time favourite mods. I wonder, though - how does it work if the sim is in a flirty mood? I've had a couple of sims recently flirt with someone else in front of their partner when I've been using this, and I wondered if the code is grabbing flirty interactions or if my sims are just dirty cheaters? :)

Personal opinion, don't judge😂. I think you could try combining in depth friendly interactions like get to know and deep conversation in the romance system, while they are doing something slightly romantic like flirting and complimenting each other.

If there isn't one already that I've not seen, TS4 needs something like the Supreme Commander for TS3, an autonomy macro mod, where you can tell it to make friends or romance the current target, work on fitness, clean, read, do gardening, train magic, or whatever, and they will do nothing but that, until they run out of stuff to do, or need to attend to standard needs and work. It was a semi-permanent interaction.
Would you consider adding integration with other mods to make chances of success or failure vary based on personal compatibility? I can give more specifics if you are interested.
Sure, I'd like to hear. I will say that this should integrate with the changes I made in Gameplay Overhaul as well as any mods that do influence success rates on the interactions I have used. The chance for success and failure have not been modified, it's just taking care of running the interactions for you.

I can't remember if it's part of your Gameplay Overhaul mod, but another thing that irritates me about conversations in TS 4, is that the animations breaks immersion, what I mean is that when they start conversing they don't do face-to-face. Just wondering if this is that something you are looking to include in this mod?
With the mod they do adjust to be more face to face. The base game's "Sim Chat" function that you see running while in a conversation has a 360 degree radius. I use 110 so they must be mostly looking at the target.

I screwed up and didn't include the string tables for other languages. I do this all the time, because it needs to be the last step. I just updated the file to have Spanish because it was blank!!
