[Volume 2 Chapter 4] When I confessed to the girl I liked, her twin sister came along as a bonus

Chapter 4: The Twins Apparently Want to Go to the Pool

“Let’s go!” Yuzuki exclaims.

“Here we go,” Fuuka adds.

“You’re both pretty excited, huh, Yuzuki, Fuuka,” I say, unable to suppress a wry smile.

A week into summer vacation—

Yuzuki and Fuuka returned from their family home without incident.

No parental lectures about living with a guy or being kept at home.

You’d think that’d be the norm.

With all the recent trouble, I was worried something might happen—

When Yuzuki and Fuuka returned, saying, “We’re back!” and “We’re home,” I felt oddly relieved, out of character for me.

For a moment, I even forgot the guilt over my time with the maids while they were gone.

The day after the twins returned to the tawaman.

Today, at Yuzuki and Fuuka’s suggestion—

“This is one impressive pool,” I remarked.

Yes, the twins dragged me to a pool.

It’s hot today, the sky clear, the sun glaring despite it being morning.

A pool day isn’t a bad idea.

It feels rushed right after their return, but it’s their request, so I’ve got no complaints.

In fact, I’m looking forward to it.

After all—

“It’s a completely members-only, reservation-only pool,” Yuzuki says.

“No non-members allowed, but we got special permission this time,” Fuuka adds.

“The Tsubasa family’s influence is intense,” I comment.

The pool building is elegant and neat but not overly flashy.

Since it’s not for the general public, there’s no need to stand out.

Rich people’s pools are different from the get-go.

The pools I went to were public ones, so I’m curious about a members-only setup.

“It’s not a huge outdoor pool, but with fewer people, you can relax and enjoy,” Fuuka says.

“Yeah, crowded places are no fun,” Yuzuki adds.

Laughing, they head toward the building.

By the way, we were driven here by a Tsubasa family car.

Getting pampered by maids daily, enjoying the bodies of two beautiful ojou-samas, and now chauffeured to a fun outing—

I’m seriously going to ruin myself. Or maybe I already have.

As I follow the twins—

“Nii-san, you’re living the high life,” a voice says behind me.

“Coming from my sister, that stings,” I reply.

The small figure trailing me is my sister, Wakaba.

Her short, quirky haircut and youthful face belie her middle school age.

She wears a white blouse with a ribbon and a navy dress.

Despite summer vacation, she’s in her school uniform.

It’s not about following some outdated “wear uniforms outside” rule—she just finds choosing casual clothes a hassle.

Even during summer break, Wakaba stays home, studying or helping at the shop.

Hearing that pitiful story, I couldn’t leave her be as her brother.

Bringing her along for this pool trip was only natural.

“Hey, Maki,” Yuzuki calls, stopping and turning back to us.

“Your sister’s really cute,” she says.

“Well, small things are usually cute,” I reply.

“Not very honest, are you? Hey, Wakaba-chan, has your brother always been like this?” Yuzuki asks.

“Since I can remember,” Wakaba answers without missing a beat.

Apparently, Wakaba has memories from before she was one, thanks to her high intelligence.

Was I this aloof since I was three or four? I didn’t even know.

“By the way, Wakaba, Yuzuki’s older than you. Use honorifics.”

“Oh, it’s fine, it’s fine. I’d be shocked if she used honorifics,” Yuzuki says.

“Yuzu-nee, I use honorifics,” Fuuka points out.

“Yours are just your character, so it’s fine,” Yuzuki replies.

“I’m not putting on a character…” Fuuka mutters, seemingly hurt by her sister’s casual remark.

“Anyway, no point chatting out here. Let’s go in,” I suggest.

“Right, Maki’s dying to see us in our swimsuits,” Yuzuki teases.

“…Yeah,” I replied.

“Why the pause?!” Yuzuki exclaims.

What can I say?

This morning, before the car came, I got an eyeful of Yuzuki’s bare chest.

Swimsuits might actually be less revealing.

“Come on, let’s go, Wakaba-chan,” Yuzuki says.

“Okay,” Wakaba replies.

Yuzuki takes Wakaba’s hand, heading toward the reception.

“Oh my, looks like your sister’s spot’s been taken,” Fuuka says.

“You okay with that, Fuuka?” I ask.

“Well, she’s not the most charming sister, so I’m fine,” Fuuka replies.

“If we’re talking lack of charm, I doubt any sister beats Wakaba.”

Today, Wakaba’s in her downer, stay-in-her-room mode, not her bright poster-girl mode.

I may have two personalities, but my character’s consistent. Wakaba’s the one switching faces.

Wakaba’s brain is like two in one—she can think about different things simultaneously.

It’s not just double the thinking speed; it’s four to sixteen times faster.

She’s inherently brilliant, a genius, really.

My two personalities don’t make me smarter; I’m average at best, so I can’t relate.

But genius or not, she’s still a second-year middle schooler.

Shouldn’t she be playing at a pool during summer break instead of studying at home? Maybe that’s just my average thinking.

In the men’s changing room, I switch into my swimsuit.

It’s a plain navy surf-trunk style.

“Hmm… so this is what it’s like inside,” I muse.

The pool isn’t huge.

An elegant oval-shaped pool, with a waterslide in the back.

There’s also a twenty-five-meter competition pool and a diving pool.

Actually, it’s pretty spacious.

Most guests are by the poolside, lounging on deck chairs or summer beds under parasols to avoid the summer sun.

Those in the pool are mostly floating on rings or splashing gently.

With so few people, there’s no need to rush for spots.

Being reservation-only, they must control the number of guests for comfort.

It’s a far cry from the crowded public pools I’m used to…

“Sorry to keep you waiting, Maki,” Yuzuki calls.

“Sorry for the wait, Maki-san,” Fuuka adds.

“…Hey,”

Yuzuki and Fuuka step out of the women’s changing room with light steps.

Yuzuki has sunglasses perched on her head, while Fuuka wears a large hat.

They’re taking UV protection seriously, but of course, what I’m really focused on is—

“So, Maki, what do you think? Went for a cute vibe this time,” Yuzuki says, twirling.

She’s wearing a white bikini with frilly lace trim, the kind that’s adorable, with strings tied at the back of her neck and the sides of her bikini bottoms.

I know those strings are just decorative, but they feel a bit risky.

“How is it…? A bit bold, maybe?” Fuuka asks shyly.

Her black bikini has a deep neckline, showing nearly half her chest, and the bottoms are skimpy, a daring design.

“…You two picked swimsuits opposite to your usual vibes on purpose, didn’t you?”

“Oh, caught us?” Yuzuki giggles.

“Did we get found out?” Fuuka echoes.

They stick out their tongues in unison, a playful “tehe.”

Yuzuki doing that is one thing, but Fuuka pulling off such a mischievous gesture?

By their images, you’d expect Yuzuki in black and Fuuka in white.

“Still, they suit you both. Yuzuki, you pull off frilly surprisingly well, and Fuuka, that cleavage-showing design looks great on you,”

“Wow…” Yuzuki gasps.

“Ah, haha…” Fuuka laughs softly.

Yuzuki’s surprised, and Fuuka chuckles, both blushing.

Saying stuff like this isn’t my usual style, but I’ve got to be honest when it’s worth praising.

Even if their swimsuits are less revealing than usual, the twins look cute and it suits them.

They take care of me so much—I’d be a fool to let embarrassment stop me from praising their cuteness.

“You’re changing a bit, huh, Maki…” Yuzuki says.

“With so much happening in such a short time, it’d be harder not to change,” I reply.

“It’s a good change. If we do even more for you, will you change more?” Yuzuki teases.

“We’re girls too, you know. Getting compliments on our looks feels nice. We’ll have to thank you,” Fuuka says.

“Wait, wait, this is a public place!” I protest.

Even with fewer people, there are eyes around.

There are plenty of guys here, and I don’t want the twins showing more skin.

“I get it. Sometimes we just gotta play hard like normal,” Yuzuki says.

“It’s summer, so we should have tons of fun,” Fuuka adds.

“Yeah—wait, where’s Wakaba?” I ask, looking around.

“Huh? Wakaba-chan was with us—oh, she’s gone,” Yuzuki says.

“I’ll go look for her,” Fuuka says, heading back to the women’s changing room.

Soon after—

“Found her. She was scribbling calculations on the changing room floor with her finger,” Fuuka reports, pulling Wakaba along.

“That habit of hers…” I sigh.

Wakaba’s eyes are glazed, muttering something under her breath.

“Don’t mind her. She gets like this sometimes,”

Occasionally, Wakaba gets possessed by calculations or writing papers.

If she doesn’t have a phone or pen nearby, she’ll write equations or text on the floor, walls, or even in the air with her finger.

She keeps this habit in check around our parents or classmates—

But with me here today, she must’ve let her guard down.

“Hey, Wakaba, Wakaba,” I call.

“…Huh? Nii-san? Aren’t you living with the twin sisters?” she asks.

“Do I have to explain from there?” I groan.

Her thoughts must’ve flown to her academic world, taking her memory with them.

It happens often.

Her memories get swept up in her high-speed thinking—whatever that means.

“Oh, right. We’re at the pool,” Wakaba says, snapping back.

“Good, you remembered quickly… Wait, Wakaba, you had a swimsuit like that?” I ask.

She’s wearing an orange checkered top with short-pants-style bottoms that look like a skirt—a separate swimsuit.

It’s stylish, not at all like Wakaba, who prioritizes function over fashion.

“The sisters got it for me. I brought a swimsuit, but…” Wakaba says.

“Let me guess, a school swimsuit?” I ask.

“It’s the only one I have,” she replies.

Wakaba says it expressionlessly, nodding.

Even my sister has some friends.

Last year, she planned to go to the pool with them in a school swimsuit, and I tried to stop her, but she went anyway.

I failed as a brother there.

I should’ve dragged her to a store and bought her a decent swimsuit.

“But how did Yuzuki and Fuuka know your size?” I ask.

“We’d seen Wakaba-chan at the shop before. I had a rough idea of her size, so we prepared a few options,” Yuzuki explains.

“That’s some foresight…”

They went that far to get a swimsuit for Wakaba.

As a lacking brother, I’m grateful.

“I’m small, so most fitting swimsuits are childish. I was surprised by something this stylish,” Wakaba says.

“You just have to look. Even kids want to be fashionable if they’re girls,” Yuzuki says.

While talking, we secure nearby summer beds and chairs.

“Wakaba-chan’s only in second year, right? You’ll grow,” Yuzuki says.

“Will I…?” Wakaba asks, skeptical of her growth potential.

My sister’s barely 150 centimeters tall.

Her weight’s under 40 kilos… maybe just over 30.

“I grew a lot, though. Dad’s tall too, so genetically, it’s not weird if Wakaba grows.”

“Wah!” Wakaba exclaims as I pat her head lightly, swatting at my hand.

She’s childish but hates being treated like a kid.

“Nii-san, you’re in the way…” she grumbles.

When she fails to push my hand off, she grabs my arm with both hands, trying to yank it away.

I’m over 180 centimeters, so her tiny strength doesn’t stand a chance.

“Come on, Nii-san. I’m small, but I’m not a kid!” she protests.

“Alright, my bad,” I say, pulling my hand back with a wry smile.

“It’s not like Wakaba doesn’t eat. At home, we often eat shop leftovers, greasy stuff, but still…” I trail off.

“Height’s partly genetic, but her small build is odd,” Yuzuki says, staring at Wakaba.

Wakaba doesn’t mind the rude gaze, even twirling to show off her body.

“Well, Wakaba’s always moving around helping at the shop, and when she’s done, she’s studying, brain in overdrive,” I explain.

“I hear shogi players lose two or three kilos after a match,” Fuuka says.

“Really? I knew mental work burns calories, but not that much.”

Wakaba’s always running her brain—like two brains at once.

Maybe that burns a lot of energy physically.

There might be a reason for her small build… I never noticed before.

“But Wakaba-chan!” Yuzuki exclaims.

“Yes?” Wakaba responds.

“You don’t need your brain today! Just play as your body wants!” Yuzuki says.

“Is that how it works…?” Wakaba asks, tilting her head curiously.

She’s not the type to play actively, so she might be unsure what to do.

“So cute!” Yuzuki squeals.

“Wah!” Wakaba gasps as Yuzuki suddenly hugs her tightly.

“Hey, Maki, why don’t we have Wakaba-chan live with us? I want to dote on a sister sometimes,” Yuzuki says.

“You’ve got a sister right here,” Fuuka points out.

“Honestly, you don’t feel much like a sister,” Yuzuki says.

“That’s a shocking revelation, Yuzu-nee,” Fuuka says, glaring at her sister with half-lidded eyes.

“Well, twins don’t usually feel like ‘older’ or ‘younger,’ right?”

“I’ve always thought of Yuzu-nee as my older sister since I can remember,” Fuuka says.

“Because you’re like that, I can barely see you as a little sister,” Yuzuki says.

“Barely, huh? Should I act more like a clingy little sister? Onee-chan♡” Fuuka says playfully.

“That’s kinda scary!” Yuzuki exclaims.

“Scary? That’s rude, even for a sister,” Fuuka says, narrowing her eyes further.

Come to think of it, these two have been changing a bit too…

Their personalities and speech differ, but they used to say similar things. Now, they’re drifting apart.

I never felt a hint of older-younger sister dynamic before.

“Anyway, enough of that! Wakaba-chan, let’s swim!” Yuzuki says.

“Sure, I’ll play with you,” Wakaba replies.

“…Well, a cheeky sister like this is nice too,” Yuzuki says, surprised for a moment before grinning.

Wakaba’s bold response seems to have won her over.

As expected of a sociable gyaru, she can handle a middle schooler with ease.

Yuzuki takes Wakaba’s hand, heading toward the oval pool.

“Hey, you two, stretch properly first!” I call after them.

Yuzuki raises a hand in response while walking toward the pool.

“You’re not going, Fuuka?” I ask.

“Abandoned by my sister, I’ll relax alone sadly,” Fuuka says.

“Come on… Well, I don’t need to rush either. I’ll hang with you.”

I sprawl on a summer bed.

Fuuka smiles and lies on the one next to me.

Her 90-centimeter chest bounces—tayun—as she settles.

“Maki-san, are you embarrassed to play with your sister?” Fuuka asks.

“Don’t read my mind, Fuuka,” I say with a wry smile.

Truth is, playing with my middle school sister—who still looks like an elementary kid—feels awkward.

I feel bad that she’s always working at the shop or studying, but entertaining her alone is tough for me.

I’m honestly grateful for Yuzuki's playing with her.

“Still, that’s probably normal for sibling distance,” Fuuka says.

“…Hm?” I respond.

“Being together every day and dating the same person like Yuzu-nee and I is rare,” she says.

“The latter’s definitely rare, but for high schoolers, sisters hanging out daily isn’t unusual.”

“That’s true, but… we’re a bit different,” Fuuka says.

“…” I pause.

No need to point it out—I know Yuzuki and Fuuka are special.

Wakaba and I might each be a bit unique, but our sibling relationship is pretty standard.

A brother who worries but can’t be honest, and a sister who’s aloof and finds her brother annoying.

It’s almost too typical.

“‘Maki-sama,’” two voices call in unison.

“Ugh?!” I yelp, nearly jumping off the summer bed.

Sitting up, I see—

“You haven’t put on sunscreen, have you, Maki-sama?” Asa-san says.

“You’ll regret it later if you don’t apply it properly,” Yuu-san adds.

“Asa, Yuu? You’re here?” I ask.

“We came in a separate car and were right beside you when we entered,” Asa-san says.

“Seriously? You’re too good at blending in…”

Forget maids—they’re practically ninjas.

“You’re not in maid outfits, at least,” I note.

“We understand the setting,” Yuu-san replies.

I can’t tell if it’s Asa or Yuu, but one of them spoke up, glancing at the twin maids.

They’re both in pink one-shoulder bikini tops, with a single strap on one side, and matching bikini bottoms.

The straps are meticulously symmetrical, one on the left, the other on the right.

Their large chests and slender bodies make their swimsuits look stunning.

Maybe because they seem so mature, they’re drawing quite a few stares.

“During summer vacation, we’re assigned to stay with the ojou-samas or Maki-sama, so we’re always nearby,” one of them—Asa-san, I think—says.

“Whether at the pool or on a bed, we can attend to you anywhere, Maki-sama,” the other—Yuu-san—adds.

“Hey!” I exclaim.

“It’s fine. Yuzu-nee and I know about what happened while we were gone,” Fuuka says calmly.

“…That’s weird in itself,” I mutter.

Apparently, Yuzuki and Fuuka heard about what I did with the twin maids.

The lack of jealousy is almost scarier.

I’m over here regretting how carried away I got.

“How about trying with us what you practiced with Asa-san and the others soon?” Fuuka suggests.

“Y-yeah, eventually…” I stammer.

Fuuka seems eager to try what I did with Asa-san and Yuu-san.

Yuzuki probably feels the same.

I nearly glance at Fuuka’s butt but quickly look away.

Good thing she’s sitting, so her butt isn’t in full view.

If she were lying face-down, showing off her bikini-clad butt, something in me would’ve been in serious trouble…

“Ah,” one of the maids says.

“What’s up, Asa… or Yuu?” I ask.

“It’s Yuu. Yuzuki-ojou-sama and Wakaba-sama aren’t in the pool…” Yuu-san says.

“What!?” I exclaim.

I jump off the summer bed and scan the pool.

There are only a handful of people in it, easy to check.

“They’re really not there… Hey, no way,” I say, my heart racing.

I scan every corner of the not-so-large oval pool.

No visible issues, but pool accidents aren’t always obvious.

“Don’t panic, Maki-san. This pool has proper lifeguards. Look, even with me, Asa-san, and Yuu-san here, no one’s hitting on us, right? They keep watch to prevent trouble,” Fuuka says reassuringly.

“Even so…!” I protest.

Drowning would be obvious, but in the worst case, someone could be submerged—

“There they are,” Asa-san says, pointing.

“Really!?” I say, whipping my head around.

Asa-san points, and I hurriedly look.

“Oh, they’re in the other pool. When did they move?” I say, sighing in relief and walking over.

Fuuka gets off her summer bed and follows.

Asa-san and Yuu-san stay by the summer beds, probably to watch Yuzuki and Wakaba’s belongings.

“Phew!” Yuzuki gasps, emerging from the water.

“Hey, Yuzuki, what are you doing?” I ask.

I reach the twenty-five-meter pool just as Yuzuki finishes a crawl stroke and hits the wall.

“Wow, that was surprising…” Yuzuki says, looking at the lane beside her with a shocked expression.

Wakaba’s floating on her back in the next lane, calm as ever.

“You were slow, Onee-san,” Wakaba says.

“You’re just too fast, Wakaba-chan. I went pretty hard, you know,” Yuzuki says, panting heavily.

Wakaba, meanwhile, looks unfazed—though that’s her default.

“Yuzu-nee, were you racing Wakaba-chan?” Fuuka asks.

“Yeah, she said she’s good at swimming, so we had a match… but she’s insanely fast,” Yuzuki says.

“So, faster than me too. I’m pretty confident in swimming, but…” Fuuka says.

Apparently, the Tsubasa sisters are evenly matched in swimming too.

“Wakaba’s small but athletic. People underestimate her because of her size, but she’s been making them listen with her fists since way back.”

“I get underestimated for being small, while Nii-san’s big and scary, so he gets challenged a lot. I learned fighting and swimming from him,” Wakaba says.

“Did I teach you to fight…?” I ask, puzzled.

Teaching my petite sister something so rough—wouldn’t that be bad parenting, or rather, bad brothering?

“You came to play, not to compete seriously. Geez…” I say, offering a hand to Yuzuki, who’s still catching her breath, and pulling her up to the poolside.

Wakaba’s still floating leisurely.

“Wakaba-san, aren’t you tired yet?” Fuuka asks.

“Nope, totally fine. Want to race, Fuuka-onee-san? I’ll play with you,” Wakaba says.

“Fuuka-onee-san…!” Fuuka says, touched by the title.

She’s thrilled by being called “sister” but also wants to be treated like one—what a busy girl.

“Alright, let’s race. If you win, I’ll treat you to ice cream,” Fuuka says.

“If you win, I’ll tell you Nii-san’s embarrassing dark history,” Wakaba says.

“Hey, don’t bet something that only screws me over!” I protest.

Don’t just offer up your brother like that.

Wakaba nimbly climbs out of the pool and steps onto the starting block.

“Heh, with Wakaba-san’s stamina drained, I’ve got a shot. Tell me about Maki-san’s dark history,” Fuuka says.

“I’m going all out this time,” Wakaba says.

“You were holding back with me!?” Yuzuki exclaims, shocked.

Wakaba might’ve actually held back.

She’s fast like a torpedo.

Maybe her brilliant mind has optimized her body’s movements to perfection.

“Alright… Ready, set… Go!” I call, reluctantly giving the start signal.

Fuuka and Wakaba dive in simultaneously with perfect form, splashing through the water at surprising speed.

“A dream sister showdown,” Yuzuki says.

“They’re going all out.”

“I was serious too… Are you and Wakaba secretly super talented?” Yuzuki asks.

“My only talent is my scary face. Wakaba’s… a bit special.”

More than a bit, but I can’t spill my sister’s secrets.

“Well, Wakaba seems to be having fun, so that’s good. A second-year’s summer break shouldn’t just be studying and shop work. Thanks, Yuzuki.”

“Haha, no need for thanks. Wakaba-chan might become my sister-in-law someday,” Yuzuki says.

“Sister-in-law…” I mutter.

Could I really marry a Tsubasa family ojou-samas?

And which one—Yuzuki or Fuuka?

“Let’s have fun too!” Yuzuki says.

“Whoa, hey!” I yelp as she suddenly pushes me.

I lose balance and fall into the pool, splashing loudly and sinking.

This pool allows diving, but pushing someone in isn’t okay—

“…” I think, hitting the pool bottom with my hand before starting to float up.

Splash—Yuzuki dives in after me.

And then—

“?!” I gasp.

Yuzuki, diving toward me, grabs my cheeks with both hands.

“…” I freeze.

She presses her lips to mine, blowing air into my mouth.

For a few seconds, our lips stay locked—then she pulls away, smiling underwater.

“Phew!” I gasp, surfacing.

“Ha…” Yuzuki exhales, her face right beside mine as we break the surface.

“What was that, Yuzuki?!” I exclaim.

“Sorry, sorry. It’s a public place, so we can’t kiss openly, right? Underwater, we can manage. I was sharing my oxygen with drowning Maki,” she says with a grin.

“Thanks for that…” I mutter.

Underwater mouth-to-mouth—like something out of a manga.

In reality, it’s more shocking than helpful for breathing.

“We came to have fun, so no kissing would be boring, right?” Yuzuki says.

“I’m fine just playing normally.”

“Yeah…” Yuzuki says, glancing at Fuuka and Wakaba, still swimming.

Are they racing a 100-meter freestyle?

“Well, we should play as much as we can now,” Yuzuki says.

“What, you’ve got plans besides visiting home?” I ask.

“Yeah, with you, Maki,” she says.

“With me?” I repeat.

As I ask, Yuzuki sidles closer, her ample chest pressing against me through her white bikini.

“There’s a place I want you to come with us to,” she says.

“Huh?” I say, surprised.

“That’s why I wanted to play as much as possible now,” she adds.

Her voice is unusually serious.

I thought we were just here to have fun—what’s this about?

Is this summer vacation going to be more than just fun?
