Dev Update - 06/20/2026
Hi everyone,
I hope you're all having a fantastic weekend.
I want to start by apologizing. I seriously underestimated how much work these reworks would end up taking.
What started out as a simple remaster of the early chapters has gradually evolved into something much bigger. I'm not just touching up old content anymore. I'm rewriting every single line of dialogue, redesigning scenes, adding new scenes, adding new choices, improving character interactions, and remaking every image completely from the ground up.
The biggest challenge is that I keep finding ways to make scenes better.
A conversation that originally took a handful of renders now turns into a fully realized sequence with multiple camera angles, expressions, transitions, and additional dialogue. The result is a much more immersive experience, but it also means production times have increased.
To put things into perspective, the original Chapter II contained roughly 95 images in total.
The café scene alone in the new Chapter II is larger than the entirety of the old chapter.
That's the scale of these reworks.
The downside is that I've been working myself into the ground. Since I'm handling everything mysefl. Writing, rendering, editing, coding, UI design, testing... the workload has become pretty intense. Some days I wake up, sit down at my desk, start working, and before I know it the entire day has disappeared.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that I barely remember what the outside world looks like at this point. That said, despite how exhausting it has been, I'm incredibly happy with the results.
The difference in quality between the original content and the reworked version is honestly night and day. The pacing is stronger, the characters feel more natural, the choices have more impact, and the visual presentation is on a completely different level.
I think it's becoming increasingly clear that Shadows of Ambition isn't like most AI-assisted visual novels. Every scene is carefully planned, rewritten, rendered, tested, and refined until I'm happy with it. The tools help speed up parts of the process, but an enormous amount of time still goes into creating something that feels polished and unique.
The good news is that Chapter II is progressing extremely well. There's just the two NSFW scenes left. I'm trying to do as much as I can, but to be honest, I'm afraid of a burn out. I'm bad at deadlines and setting dates for myself, not going to lie, but at the same time, I don't want to rush towards a deadline and make the game worse for it.
I've seen a lot of concerns and comments about my plans on reworking these early chapters. "Why bother?".
I'll just say this one last time, I've gambled on doing this. I had a full-time job and worked on Shadows of Ambition whenever I had spare time. However, it wasn't healthy. I worked for 20 hours a day, seven days a week. Whatever social life or free time I had, I sacrificed for the game. I made the decision towards the end of 2025 to do this full-time. I've been loving working on the game, but I noticed that I still spend way too much time every day working on the game, because if I don't, I feel like I'm letting all of you down. The issue is, Patreon subs between updates drop quite a bit (Around 65% of subs leave). Meaning if I don't release an update every couple of months, I lose a lot of money. The reason why I'm doing these reworks, is to hopefully get a somewhat successful steam launch. Why? To fund the project moving forward. I want to be able to work on the game and not be stressed about making ends meet every month and more importantly, I want to be able to do this for the foreseeable future. I love what I do and I feel like I've grown a lot in the year I've been developing this game.
My goal remains the same as it has always been: to make Shadows of Ambition the best game I can possibly make.
Thank you all for your patience, support, and encouragement. Seeing your comments, messages, and excitement for the project is what keeps me pushing forward during these marathon development sessions.
Until next time,
— AbyssGames

Hey Dev Abyss! Man, I'm impressed with your level of dedication to the game! Of all the games in this genre that I've played, yours has the best level of work and it's still getting better! But, reading your comment above, I'm worried about one thing: your health! Take care not to get sick! Try to stretch your legs a bit during the workday, getting up and going out to get some good sun and fresh air even helps to clear your mind and improve your work even more! Try to eat well and drink water to stay hydrated! As I said above, health is more important! I'm looking forward to seeing new updates for this game, regardless of whether it will have new content or a new remastered version, coming from your dedication I know it will be something very good! I wish you all the success in this game! Big hug!
We are grateful for what you have done for us, take your time and take care of yourself !
When we can play the new content? July? First half, second?
бро я на писал тебе в лсл на ф95 зона на сайте ответ )
Rework? A good move. Certainly. Doing this just when Alice was finally going to have her first NTS sex? A MISTAKE! Because you took a year and a half to deliver real NTS and then, when the time came, you did a rework. Now, you won't be able to reach chapter 7 in 3 months as you predicted. It will certainly take a year or more, considering the level of quality you're putting into the new content. Well, the consequences? Most of your fans will leave. You'll have to rely on new fans who don't know the game's history (a year and a half without Alice having real NTS) and who haven't finished the game before the rework. Steam release? Sorry to disappoint you, but the revenue there is lower than Patreon's (search for yourself in the Renpy category). However, you took a risk, but it might work IF new players come from Patreon/Steam. If the new game manages to sustain itself at the speed you estimate (3 to 3 months per update) IF there isn't a mass FOMO until then. I think if you had finished the game first, let Alice have NTS with Liam or anyone else and finished it there, the rework would now be very welcome by everyone and there wouldn't be this exodus of angry subscribers here and on F95. Even so, good luck.
sorry I hit enter before I had a chance to give you ideas. First you can offer a poll every once in a while. These could be anything from which scene people enjoyed to what outfit do you want a specific character to wear. On top of that just throw out a few renders from the next update. You could even ask which characters your subscribers want to interact. There are lots of ways to get people to keep visiting your patreon page. If you ever want to discuss it just DM me I’d be glad to help.
Regarding patreon I have a few thoughts but they all involve time, which based on your post you don’t have a lot of. If you want my opinion you need to give supporters a reason to stay other than the update. You can do this a couple of ways
This upgrade seems to take on a life of its own. Is it just more images per episode? Or is Alice also changing as we already saw in the first episode. Are you still sure of your answer that Alice won't be ready to be with someone else until you catch up with the current episode or does the update as it progresses give you a new perspective?
支持你,做出好游戏
Keep up the great work Abyss, don't listen to the haters and the negative comments. Stand by what you believe is best for your project
I feel that the reworking project will take this game to limits that couldn't be done without it, keep up and stay healthy and safe ❤️
Go ahead my friend, so interested for upgrading the previous chapters more than the addition of new chapter as we saw the first rework
I just wanted to say, that you are doing amazing work. Take care of yourself, and do what you feel is right.
Stay healthy bro, not a single game in this work is worth dying for Take as much time as you need, as extent deadlines as you need. Nobody's going anywhere
Love the game! Stay healthy!
Personally, I enjoyed the rewrite so much better than the first time playthrough
Looking forward to when all the reworks are done, and i can reexperience the whole cast but from a better perspective.
Dude, the chapter will be finished when it’s finished. Let’s be honest, nobody benefits if you work yourself to the bone. Also, your ‘Steam’ argument makes a lot of sense to me. Just carry on doing what you think is right.
Well I'm patient enough for this though, remember to take care of yourself too.
Focus on the main story. Between having a follow-up update to the main story and a remake update, most people will choose to continue the story. And if you guarantee its release time, you'll have more long-term supporters instead of delaying it, where they'll only subscribe in the release month. Finally, remaking SoA will only make things difficult for you; there will be people who don't like it, and you'll face criticism, exploitation, etc. (translation)
Man stop gifting and work on real conten.
To be honest I think the original game story and dialog are great and alis look more innocent befor the reworke and that's a good thing maybe just extending on the original game will be better and easier
You are fine man. Quality trumps all else and you are taking the quality up , not just a notch, but several notches. -Better Art -Better Dialogue -More Choices and control playing the MC All those things are what take a game from being kinda good to great. You need to keep up the great work and not worry about the nay-sayers. Take care of yourself and thank you!
It's a tough balance to hit. You almost have to overpromise timelines just so you don't lose subs, but if you miss milestones consistently you will naturally lose them anyhow, sucks. Why don't you put up what you have now on steam? feels like you have enough content to warrant paid early access.
I have to say, the rework looked good. Nice job. BUT I decided to stop supporting until a "new" chapter is coming out. Not a rework new but a new new chapter. Its good to know your reasons but I for myself don't want to play everything again. Yes I know there will be changes. But I played till one point and I want to continue to play from that point and not waiting months or years to get back to that point. Good luck on your road, see you in the future after the game is going forward again.
You will have to play everything again, regardless. Old saves will not work.
Do your magic dude. We re here
The problem with Patreon is, I can be at a $5 tier for years, literally donating hundreds over the life of a game (did this with Fallen Eros among many others), and still have less benefits than someone who signs up for a single month at a higher tier. I canceled all of my subscriptions at the end of 2025 and saved several hundred per month. Support is a two-way street, and the Patreon model just doesn't reciprocate. This is not a knock against you, just an observation. Patreon needs a feature where after you meet the highest tier cumulatively, that's where you are placed for benefits and rewards so long as your membership remains consistent. Anyway, these days, I just wait for a Steam release. And even that's no guarantee, but it's a slightly safer bet than so many games on Patreon that are never finished.
that's a good suggestion on cumulative contribution
The chapter 1 rework was awesome and I’m sure the rework for this chapter and all the others will be well worth the wait you’re a great dev and I hope the steam release helps this game really take off. I hope the encouragement of your loving followers helps drown out the noise of the upset gooners and helps you keep moving forward with your project
You know that if you keep doing the rework like this, you won't be able to release the end of Chapter 7 when you planned, right? Anyway, I think if what you're doing improves the game, it's worth it. I think you're doing things right, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future chapters have in store. I hope they're pretty wild!!! Thanks Abyss
i did cancel my subscription, now i will give you the explanation. 1st i was already guessing something like this would happen, is to be expected you are working on 2 things on the same time, reworks and new content. 2nd, either consciously or not, you end up doing what the vast majority or creators, milking subs, that do some point i understand since most likely became you main source of income, just don't be to greedy about it! 3rd and THE MOST important reason, on 21st May you did a poll regarding these reworks didn't you? Did you not saw what the result was? No worries i will remind you 68% of the votes wanted to wait a bit longer and have everything delivered at the same time, let me repeat 68%. in other words the MAJORITY, prefer to wait longer and have the reworks and new content at the same time! But you just went ahead ignored the majority of your subscribers and did what you wanted it! That being said next time don't make polls you have no intention of respecting! asking us what we want and then just do whatever you regardless just reveals how much you care about you fan base! so yes membership cancelled until new content.
Okay. No need to attack me. If you want to cancel your sub and announce that you're doing it on every post I make, do what you want. I've openly said, if you want to cancel your sub because of the rework, then do it. If you actually believe I'm milking, even though I've been releasing content consistently for over a year and a half, I don't know what to say. You might say "Oh, but the rework isn't new content." You mean all these new scenes I'm making aren't new content? Chapter 1 is completely new. Chapter 2 is 90% new content. And you're right. I did the poll on the 21st. Then I made a poll on June 1st when I released the Chapter 1 rework, because me saying something and then people actually playing it and seeing the changes, I know that would change opinions and guess what? IT DID. I'm not releasing it for lower tiers, but the highest tiers who voted on that poll will get it. There's a reason why I haven't released the rework for the lower tiers? You know why? Because I AM following the poll. I genuinely don't know why you think I'm suddenly betraying everything I've said. I'm true to my word. No need to slander me.
My only question is, at what point or chapter will you decide you’ve caught up with the redevelopment and just resume the story? I’m totally fine with reworking to match newer chapters, but I feel like chapter 5 and beyond is already peak, there’s no real reason to redo those.
I'll keep supporting your work—so far, you haven't stopped surprising me. You're one of the few developers I follow whose story I genuinely care about and want to see succeed, because I love it and want to see this game finished. Good luck, “Abyssgames.”
Im here until I have to deal with Liam or whatever his name was. But hopefully you change the scene were he basically molestes the FMC in the gym.
You're really doing a great job. The work you're doing is truly commendable and of very high quality. Good luck, and take care of yourself.
Ignore the haters and do what you want.
It's a tough call but at the end of the day you gotta do what you think is best. The work has been stellar so far. You've got a day 1 sale on steam from me.
I do agree with continuity issues. It's one of the main focuses of my work as well. I obviously don't know your workflow.... Or end goal desire for your choice system. And how to calculate that. But you need to be careful it doesn't into spaghetti mess of character arcs n paths otherwise it'll be very hard to maintain all the different routes. I'm sure you understand this obviously already but....
It’s certainly not without risk to go back and remaster the earlier chapters, but I do think it’s the right call. A strong early foundation will only serve the project better in the long term and this is one of those things that pays dividends further down the line. I’m sure it’s daunting at times, but keep your end goal in sight! You’ve done really great work so far!
Take care dude, no doubt the game is top notch. And please don't burn out, touch grass from time to time, it'll only make your work and experience better! Cheers
My recommendation is stop doing upgrades and work on future content
Did you read my post? I explained why I believe that’s not the right call atm.
I for one am excited for the Rework, but not at the expense of your mental health, take breaks ya?
We are with you, you are incredibly impressive.
Well! See ya in a year I guess
Good luck and take care of yourself!
