Why Zuck’s New AI Propaganda Isn’t Working
Hope y'all are enjoying this week's little detour into ad-focused storytelling. As a kind of follow-up to my critique of Zuckerburg's Metaverse pitch video, I wanted to look at a more recent campaign called "The Future Is For Everyone". This came out a couple weeks ago, and it generated a lot of backlash for using a David Bowie song for its soundtrack. Thought it would be interesting to do a deeper dive on some of its filmmaking/storytelling tricks. Hope you enjoy!

Meta employee here, loved your breakdown. I saw this ad a few days ago and wondered what people’s reaction to it was gonna be. I think you’re spot on.
It's so cool to have someone here from the inside lol! I'd love to be a fly on the wall inside that company and see how it actually operates. If I may ask, what's your personal take on where Meta is going with its public relations, and what might you change?
I'm just waiting for the Ubik ads.
That's my next sponsor actually
Amazing job, brother! Thanks for listening to your audience; I reposted it to my socials.
My instinctive reaction to advertising is usually annoyance and irritation. The fact that they generally target my emotions, trying to bypass my rational side, elicits an instantaneous reaction of rejection. I think I could sacrifice one of the three canonical wishes offered by the genie of the lamp, making advertising disappear from this world forever. Boy I wish I could 😅 It has never occurred to me that advertising is a sort of trying to sell a story. The art of storyselling 😅
A world without ads – one can only imagine. That was the promise of streaming services. Alas, the ads came back.
What a year. Also, you're going to have to talk about the subtle placement of guitar gear. First the Tube Screamer, and now an 80's Ibanez?
Good eye. That guitar is an absolute beaut. Plays like butter. Bought it off a tech for $200 and it's the best neck I've ever played. Just outside the left frame is my real pride and joy though - a vintage Hofner 500/1. That thing will be a family heirloom. I actually play it in my video about the Beatles Biopic from a few years ago. As for amps I've got the little Fender Blues Junior sitting there, and then a homemade cab for the bass. Pedals: JHS Lucky Cat Delay, Fender Marine Layer Reverb, Boss BD-2.
Nice dissection of the sloppy, nauseating, tech bro billionaire parasite propaganda puke. Offering a link here to check out Emily M. Fascinating revelations on the psychological engram mechanics of human language understanding. < https://youtu.be/ZUIQYQXsEvw?t=174 > References for Emily Bender include co-authoring the ground breaking paper "On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots" with fired Google ethical tech researcher, and co-authoring the book "The A.I. Thanks for sharing!
… thank you for touring the Ministry of Truth, next stop is the Ministry of Plenty.
This is all getting a little dystopian for my taste. Even the most legitimate use cases for AI seem to have all sorts of unfortunate knock-on effects for our communities and social structures, not to mention our capacity to think and learn. Keep fighting the good fight, don't let the propaganda go unquestioned 🙏✊
