TS3 Age Up

Randomly assigns traits on age up for certain Sims like in TS3.

Patch Resilience: High ℹ️

In past games, you didn’t always get to choose your Sim’s traits as they grew up. If they fell behind on skills or struggled in school, the game would assign one for you. Sometimes the trait was good, sometimes not.

I’ve always liked the variety that adds. In The Sims 4, it’s easy to fall into picking the same traits over and over, and there’s not much challenge in that. This mod brings that variety and challenge back.

What This Mod Does

Now when your Sim ages up, the game may choose their new trait for you. Like TS3, whether you get to pick the trait or not depends on how well your Sim performed in their previous life stage.

Infant → Toddler

Outcome is based on the reward trait your infant receives.

  • ⭐ Top-Notch Infant: You choose the trait

    • Requires all motives to be in excellent condition on age up

  • Happy Infant: Random trait, negative traits excluded

    • Requires all motives to be in good condition on age up

  • Unhappy Infant: Random trait assigned

    • Requires all motives to be in poor condition on age up

Toddler → Child

Outcome is based on the reward trait your toddler receives.

  • ⭐ Top-Notch Toddler: You choose the trait

    • Sim must have four toddler skills at level 5 when becoming a child.

  • Happy Toddler: Random trait assigned, negative traits excluded

    • Sim must have four toddler skills at level 3 when becoming a child.

  • No reward trait: Random trait assigned

Child → Teen & Teen → Young Adult

Outcome is based on your child or teen's performance at school.

  • ⭐ A grade: You choose the trait

  • B grade: Random trait assigned, negative traits excluded

  • C grade or not enrolled: Random trait assigned

  • D or F grade: Random negative trait assigned

Newborn → Infant

Outcome is now always randomized.

Trait Randomization Rules

You’ll still be able to choose your children and teens' aspirations regardless of their school performance. Only their new trait is subject to randomization.

All traits available in CAS are eligible for randomization, including any modded traits you have installed. What counts as a “negative” trait is defined by a curated list included within the mod.

If you’re a modder and would like any of your traits to be added, feel free to reach out. The same goes for players using custom traits. If there are traits you think should be included, let me know and I’ll add them.

Compatibility

⚠️ This mod will conflict with graycurse's Random Traits & Aspirations

ℹ️ This mod should be compatible with thepancake1 and MizoreYukii's More Traits in CAS, but I haven't tested it. If you test with it, please let me know your results!

This mod was made possible by Sims 4 Studio and Tuning Builder.

This is such a cool idea! Is this compatible with Andirz's "Smart Sim Randomizer"?

loooving the ts3 inspired mods thank you goat!! 🫡 if you plan on doing more and need ideas... i've been craving something like the deep conversations mod for the sims 4 i think it'd translate so well 😭

Interesting. I've not heard of that mod before. It may be worth looking at for some future mods I have planned.

hello!! been testing the mod today and it's been great. I did have a question and I wasn't able to find an answer (but I could be missing something), when does it become publicly available/leave beta testing?

tyjokr · May 6, 2026

Prob this weekend since no issues were reported and none were found on my end. I just want to compile all the custom traits people have asked for.

ooo will this work with your childhood consequences mod? was also wondering if you ever considered adding 'reward' type traits if the sim gets a good childhood?

t
tyjokr · May 4, 2026

Yes, all my mods work together, no worries about that! There are already reward traits in the game for good childhoods, if you max out the any of the child skills.

T
Teapressed · May 3, 2026

ohh this is interesting, could you make a version that makes it completely random, with the same "conditions" but the game will always pick from a pool of available traits?

Doni Gib · May 3, 2026

this is EXACTLY what i needed!

Oh this is fun! I hope in the future you will also add Chingyu's and Maplebell's trait into the system.

tyjokr · May 3, 2026

Yes, of course. That's part of this beta period. I need people to point me to the custom CAS traits they use.
