Allows gendered and gender-neutral relationship labels to coexist.

After disabling my Mods folder for testing purposes, I was immediately reminded of (and mildly annoyed by) the way EA genericized romantic relationship labels awhile back. “Romantic Partner” instead of Boyfriend/Girlfriend, for instance.

There are plenty of mods that revert this change, but none that I know of allow gendered and gender-neutral labels to coexist, which is how I would have preferred EA to implement it.

So I sat down, worked through it, and ended up with this mod.

How It Works

Each Sim now has a personal language preference for romantic relationships, either Gendered or Neutral.

• Preferences are assigned automatically when a Sim ages into Teen or older

• Sims default to gendered language (Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Husband, Wife, etc.)

• Sims who identify as non-binary, agender, or genderfluid via Lumpinou's LGBTQIA+ mod, Sims that are Robots, and Sims with certain custom gender options default to neutral language.

• Preferences can be changed at any time via new shift + click interactions:

Relationship Labels

• Boyfriend / Girlfriend or Partner

• Fiancé / Fiancée or Engaged

• Husband / Wife or Spouse

• Ex-Fiancé / Ex-Fiancée or Broken Engagement

• Ex-Husband / Ex-Wife or Ex-Spouse

• Late Husband / Late Wife or Late Spouse

Preferences are per-Sim and fully independent, so mixed-label couples are fully supported. If Sim A prefers gendered terms and Sim B prefers neutral terms, Sim B will see Sim A as their Boyfriend or Girlfriend, while Sim A will see Sim B as their Partner.

📝 Note: On first install, the relationship panel may not update immediately. Invite the Sim’s partner to the lot once to refresh it. After that, labels will display normally.

Where Labels Appear

Labels are updated in:

• Sim Profile panel

• Notifications

• Pie menu

• NPC autonomy dialogs

Romantic relationship names in the Family Tree and the CAS Household Relationships panel remain gender neutral.

📝 Note: The mod can be safely removed at any time and the original labels will be restored without issue.

Additional Improvements

• Corrected relationship label priority so meaningful labels like “Husband” are no longer buried behind things like “Social Bunny Friends”

• Added same-sex specific phrasing where appropriate. For example, instead of “Jenny is asking Adam to be her Boyfriend!”, a same-sex couple will see “Jack is asking Adam to be Boyfriends!”

• Created new moodlets to support the different label variants

• Fixed several issues in EA’s “Ask to Be Romantic Partner” interactions, including incorrect display name logic and a broken rejected moodlet
