Tribes introduces subcultures of the gay male community into the game, commonly referred to as “tribes.” The ones in this mod are focused around body type and appearance. The goal of this mod is to give players more ways to explore, parody, and play with identity, as well as give representation to a diverse range of gay aesthetics.

What This Mod Does

Tribes adds 16 new traits specifically for male Sims who are interested in other men either romantically or for WooHoo:

Bear, Chub, Chubby, Clean-Cut, Cub, Daddy, Femboy, Jock, Muscle Bear, Muscle Daddy Otter, Polar Bear, Rugged, Silver Daddy, Twink, and Twunk.

Unlike traditional traits, these are applied automatically based on a Sim’s:

• Age

• Body fat and fitness levels

• Body/facial hair

• Hair color (for Silver Daddy and Polar Bear)

• Clothing preference (for Femboy)

These traits remain dormant unless the Sim expresses an attraction to other men. Once detected, the mod will assign the tribe that best fits their current aesthetic.

How It Works

Once a Sim qualifies, their tribe is activated and visible. The system runs periodic scans every few in-game days to reassess the Sim's appearance and update their tribe, if needed.

Examples:

• A Twink who ages into an Adult might become Clean-Cut.

• A Twunk who bulks up might become a Jock.

• A Silver Daddy who gains weight might become a Polar Bear.

If a Sim no longer fits any tribe, or didn’t qualify for one to begin with, they’ll be assigned "Average."

Fun fact: Most tribe traits have unique icons for Sims with afro-textured hair!

New Mirror Interaction: Check Self Out

All qualifying male Sims will gain access to a new mirror interaction:

This triggers a manual rescan, with a pop-up that:

• Confirms if your Sim is in the correct tribe

• Changes your Sim's tribe, if necessary

• Tells you if your Sim doesn’t fit into any tribe at the moment

Tribe traits are mutually exclusive. Your Sim will only ever qualify for one tribe at a time based on their appearance. That said, I understand their assigned tribe might not always match each player's expectations, especially for players using custom body presets. In those cases, you can cheat the system!

Manual Overrides & Cheats

Don’t agree with the tribe your Sim was assigned? Using cheats, you can:

• Shift-click any male Sim

• Open the “Tribes” pie menu

• Manually assign them any tribe (as long as they meet the age criteria)

Manual assignment disables automatic scanning (except during age transitions), giving you full control. To re-enable scanning, just choose the “Reset” option from the same menu.

Note: While you can assign tribes to any male Sim, the trait will only activate if they’re interested in men.

Tribe Preferences

When a Sim receives their first tribe, the mod assigns Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs aligned with that Sim’s existing preferences. If you have Wonderful Whims, Wicked Whims, or the Lovestruck Expansion Pack installed, these preferences will factor into attraction.

You can manage your Sim’s tribe preferences at any time:

• Click the Sim → Actions → Manage Tribe Preferences

With Wonderful/Wicked Whims:

• Tribe preferences count towards WW's Attractiveness system

With Lovestruck:

• Tribe preferences count toward Lovestruck's attraction system

• Preferences also appear as Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs in CAS

  • Female Sims can see the options in CAS and "apply" them, but they won’t persist after exiting CAS

  • To prevent straight male Sims from receiving tribe-related Turn-Ons, this category is excluded from randomization.

If you have both WW and Lovestruck installed, tribe preferences work in both systems at once. WW blends the two scores based on its “Attractiveness Lovestruck Influence Strength” setting.

ℹ️ If you own Lovestruck, you’ll need either the included tyjokr_CustomPreferences file or Zerbu's The Custom Preferences Mod.

Without Lovestruck:

🚨 If you do not own Lovestruck, delete the included add-on file for it, or it could cause issues when entering CAS: tyjokr_Tribes_AddOn_Lovestruck

✨ New Lot Traits: Gay Hangout and Lesbian Hangout

Apply this lot trait to make a venue attract gay male Sims. When the game fills roles like bartenders, patrons, walkbys, performers, customers, or regulars, this trait pushes those roles toward gay (and bisexual) male Sims instead of the usual random population.

Gay Hangout also attempts to steer those roles toward tribe groups that fit the venue type:

• Bars attract more Clean-Cut Sims, Otters, Rugged Sims, and Muscle Bears.

• Gyms attract more Jocks, Rugged Sims, Muscle Daddies, and Muscle Bears.

• Cafés attract more Twunks, Cubs, and Otters.

• Clubs attract more Twinks, Clean-Cut Sims, and Jocks.

• Pools attract more Otters, Bears, and Daddies.

• Beaches attract more Jocks, Twunks, Otters, and Muscle Bears.

• Lounges attract more Bears, Daddies, Silver Daddies, and Muscle Bears.

• Karaoke Bars attract more Twinks, Cubs, and Chubby Sims.

• Backrooms (day) attract more Chubs, Bears, Silver Daddies, and Muscle Bears.

• Backrooms (night) attract more Bears, Rugged Sims, Daddies, and Femboys.

• Museums attract more Daddies, Silver Daddies, and Muscle Daddies.

• Libraries attract more Clean-Cut Sims, Otters, Silver Daddies, and Femboys.

• Arts Centers attract more Twinks, Clean-Cut Sims, Otters, and Femboys.

• Spas attract more Clean-Cut Sims, Otters, and Daddies.

• Onsens attract more Daddies, Silver Daddies, Polar Bears, and Muscle Bears.

• Thrift Stores attract more Twinks, Twunks, Clean-Cut Sims, and Femboys.

If a venue needs to fill a role and there isn’t a suitable gay male Sim available, the game may generate a new townie. With Gay Hangout active, the mod adjusts that Sim so they spawn interested in men and with physical attributes aligned with a specific tribe.

If you play with Automatic Body Hair, Tribes will also factor it into newly generated townies when applicable.

Note: Certain job-related roles may also be filled by lesbian and bisexual women, as well as men who are "exploring" their sexuality.

You can opt your active Sim out of the tribe system at any time:

• Click the Sim → Actions → Renounce Tribe Labels

You can opt back in the same way:

• Actions → Embrace Tribe Labels
