Sneak peek at one of the bigger systems I’ve been working on behind the scenes: Ship Da Papers Off: Stay or Go. I wanted divorce in The Sims to feel like an actual process instead of clicking one interaction and suddenly the marriage is over. You’ll have to go through a full filing process that asks how long your Sims have been married, why they’re filing, whether they share children, what kind of property they have, whether child or spousal support is being requested, whether the divorce is expected to be contested, who is helping with the case, and how the paperwork is being filed. You can choose different attorneys and legal support with different prices and strengths, select filing routes like Family Court, e-filing, self-help, legal aid, or private law offices, review everything before submitting, pay the filing costs, and then actually wait for clerk review. Filing the papers does NOT instantly divorce your Sims. This is only the beginning of the case. Counseling, spouse responses, mediation, approvals, court steps, separation, custody, finances, and a lot more are being built around it.
