To truly appreciate Darren's falsetto I recommend "Lament of Orpheus" from Hades, my guy gets a cleaner tone than a majority of female singers up there lol I'd definitely recommend checking out Hades II too which is also composed by Darren and features some truly despicable time signatures! (*cough* Titan of Time *cough*)
I have 200 hours in both Hades 1 and 2 and I absolutely loved seeing you react to these. Hoping you revisit Super Giant Games eventually and listen to some of the Hades 2 soundtracl
"Build That Wall" actually has 3 versions, one with Ashley Barret vocals, one with Daren Korb vocals (where he uses more of his chest voice instead of just falsetto), and a final version that combines the two. The same is true for "Good Riddance" where Eurydice sings her own version, and so does Orpheus. The version you heard only plays when they are reunited. However, I think that "Build That Wall" is a little cooler since the Ashley and Daren versions each have different lyrics instead of just straight-up harmonization.
Thanks so much for breaking this down Tim. Hades (and now Hades 2) are by far their biggest games, and correspondingly most popular. We didn't see as much in this bundle, but there's a lot of heavier rock/metal style in these games that hopefully we can listen to later. However, their earlier games like Bastion and Transistor are still quite special to me, especially musically. I'm so happy you got to hear so much of their diversity.
For 'Build That Wall', it would be cool to listen to 'Mother, I'm Here' another song from Bastion with vocals, and then the ending theme 'Setting Sail, Coming Home' that includes mixes of the 2 songs together. Amazing stuff.
I'm a Radiohead fan and I love this, so you're right there! Earlier this year I saw Darren, Ashley and the other Hades vocalists perform live in London with an orchestra backing, amazing experience. Most of the interesting meter stuff is in the Hades instrumental tracks. There's a bundle waiting in the app when you feel like coming back, a good mix of instrumentals and vocal tracks, including a Darren Korb solo as Orpheus
So, in the hades game. One storyline you do is get Orpheus out of jail and then patch things up with him and his wife. Up until the time that you patch everything up. You hear them singing by themselves in their own locations. After, then you hear them singing together.
I really enjoy their games. Music plays a big part for them. Overall very enjoyable, Hades is a great game you can pick up and put down in the evening.
