Also it often dismissed but it is truly a hardcore skill to be able to translate a song to english. People get upset all the time "oh that isn't translated correctly" and there are arguments over it. We should be praising it though as she is not only translating but then you have reword it so you don't lose the meaning while also making the syllables match the rhythm AS WELL as make it work with the correct rhyme scheme. It's top level stuff, almost a step above even what Weird Al does.

So something you didn't really get into but Bad Apple is a crazy song as you pointed out. I'm not sure how many studio takes she did for the song but I am pretty sure I can hear her utilizing some intact words. Which I have been told is incredibly hard for someone who sings the way she does.

Really enjoyed this study with one exception. I'm not convinced Magia was a great song choice. The song itself is too intense in flavor that it drowns out Nerissa's qualities as a singer. Tim spent more of his time making sense of the song, than dissecting the singer's voice. (edit: got some below info wrong, but I stick to my point above) This isn't a criticism of Tim, but more of us. As an audience, we should request songs not just because they're popular, but that also give Tim a lot to chew on from a "vocal technique" perspective. "Love Me, Love Me, Love Me", I think would've been a better choice. It's her first and most widely viewed song, and demonstrates a dramatic intensity that isn't present in the previous songs. Also the fact that she wrote the translation would've been nice to highlight in the song background info, helping give Tim a better perspective on what makes her special as a creator.

Magia is sung by three people - so her doing this song and basically singing all the parts is super cool. Also Yuki Kajiura is one of my favorite composers - any group that she produces/composes/ plays with is worth a listen, and not just for the vocals.

Madoka Magica is very good. It's also an easy watch with how short it is, only 12 episodes. The movies are sequels, but the story was originally intended to be just the series so it's very self-contained.
