ATEEZ 'Cyberpunk' SUPER DEEP DIVE SONG & VOCAL ANALYSIS! đ„40 minutes
I went really deep on this one! Such a wild song, crazy chromatic melodic hook.

Loved this! I knew the chromatic melody was striking af and that the drop/climatic moment with Seonghwaâs big line (we call standout moments like that the âkilling partâ in kpop bc theyâre so awesome/exciting) was insanely powerful, and now I see why musically thanks to your analysis. Btw, YES you should watch more ATEEZ live performances in addition to the MVs (cyberpunk is a b-side tho and doesnât have an official mv. The one you watched seems to be a montage or footage from the Guerrilla MV trailer) and if you want to watch the full stage without the zooms/cuts to show the membersâ closeups, search for âfull camâ along with the song title to get the full band shot. Youâll see that our vocal god Jongho IS actually dancing along hard with the rest of the band and only stabilizes himself/steps out or dances a softer variation of the othersâ moves during and sometimes right before his lines bc singing his difficult vocal parts beautifully is important to him and the band, so the choreographers have found clever ways to let him lean into his biggest strength. EVERY member of ATEEZ sings beautifully (and youâll want to take peopleâs suggestions to watch the individual Lee Mujin episodes for the five members whoâve done an episode so far: Jongho, Hongjoong (our captain, the other rapper besides Mingi, who also has a surprisingly beautiful singing voice - for him, you should check out some of the BY.HONGJOONG solo song cover videos bc they not only show off his voice singing and rapping but also his skills as a song writer/producer because he does his own musical arrangements for those cover songs. I highly recommend his BY.HONGJOONG covers of Michael Jacksonâs Beat It or Linkin Parkâs Numb), San, Seonghwa, and Yunho.
Thanks so much! It's really great to watch people appreciate ATEEZ, especially Jongho (he's the least popular member of the group), so I'm really looking forward to future vids.
This is one of my favorite ateez songs ! But I would love the deeper dive into the solo and their unit things too!
Hand mics vs. head mics: Except very rare occasions Jongho, Mingi, and Hongjoong almost always use hand mics. Seonghwa started using a hand mic in the last few years which coincides with him ramping up on vocal training. Most of the others use head mics unless they are doing special shows, vocal heavy shows, or stages. Jongho is ALWAYS live unless they just cannot be, like certain music shows donât allow it. Iâd say the rest are live 95% of the time. There is often a backing track and sometimes on intense choreo they let the backing track take over, but they suck at lip syncing, so they usually donât even bother pretending.
Yes, Jongho is pointedly ALWAYS singing live in an industry that tends to favor dancing over live singing (sorry, but EVERY other kpop band youâre watching is not singing live except for the rappers. Another reason ATEEZ are so extraordinary and standout among kpop and likely why they were the first boy group to ever play Coachella!). Our ateez rappers also sing 100% live and so does Seonghwa since at least 2021. Yunho and San also started following suit since a few years ago/around Coachella time, as ATEEZ realized how proud atiny (and their quirky ceo of KQ Entertainment) was of the fact that ateez are true triple threats able to sing AND dance AND act tf out of their high concept storyline. (Unlike most kpop bands created soullessly by the big4 kpop agencies, who prioritize looks and dancing abocd
Great reaction! Always happy to see more Ateez here!
Hongjoong can have a big hand in production. Now as far as cyberpunk? Iâd have to flip through and check, but itâs one of my fav songs production wise from them. Just a super fun collab of their creators they have there. Hongjoong tries to really play around with the timing of his raps or just the pocket in general. Actually recently saying in an interview how itâs burning him out by trying to always find something new with the schedules they keep. Their newest album heâs more hands off but still wrote. He wants to see how that goes for once. Mingi loves to play around with sounds and layering with his rap. And he will change the beat to make his sound more impactful. Jongho really is a student of his craft. Drawing influence from older and newer artists. If you want his Lee mujin service, he will talk about it more. I think youâd really enjoy those shows in general. Also Jongho is uncomfortable with showing skin and their company respects that and doesnât put him in revealing clothing so I think that will also set him apart. Along with the good old âpark and barkâ (here Iâm pretty sure he was coming out of recovery from knee surgery)
(Also just adore your breakdowns!)
This song is such a fan favorite. Jongho used to dance harder and use a headset mic but ATEEZâs choreography was too intense and towards the end of concerts he could feel himself losing energy to sing the high notes. Also, he got injured twice, once on his ankle and the other time his knee, which he had to get surgery on.
I really enjoyed this song and I liked that you covered it in 3 different videos so we could also see the choreo and I definitely need to color coded lyric video to learn their names
âOne of the fun things about choreography is seeing it synchronized.â I cannot WAIT for you to get to Seventeen (i will wait, though, lol).
You mentioned Jongho not doing the same (or sometimes any) choreo because he needs stability for his vocals. Any time that happens in a k-pop performance â the vocalist standing to the side of the choreo to hit some crazy vocals â my friends and I refer to it as âJongho-ingâ. (There is also âSeoho-ing, about Seoho of ONEUS, but thatâs when you stand in the middle hitting the high note & the choreo is happening around you, haha).
Since you mentioned it, I think youâve said Jongho wrong every time still đ youâre saying it like âjunoâ. Itâs JONG-oh. Almost exactly as it looks.
Oh no hahaha! I knew it. I promise I did practice too before watching! Oh well. I'm going to have to work harder. I started to notice I was saying it wrong about half way through. I'll get it! For some reason my mind kept giving me Junho as his name, I don't think I've even met a Junho yet!
Future me, does Tim ever realize that this is a fan made music video?
Oh no! Future you was smart! I didnât know, but I didnât really focus on it either. Also, that is amazing by the way! I love that people are making videos like this
