Wardruna-'Helvegen' Reaction
Thank you Else for putting this on our radar. Such a magical song.

I am so glad that Else requested this. It hits soul deep every time I hear it. It's almost like it calls forth ancestral memory. Goosebumps, no matter what version it is. I did appreciated the discussion of the difference between tonality and modality. I think I need to listen to that part a few more times to help it sink in. Do, if you get the chance, listen to the either version of Helvegan with Aurora. That, too, is soul stirring. Thank you so much, Else, for requesting this.
Who shall sing me into the death-sleep, sling me, when I walk upon the Path of Death, and the tracks I tread are cold — so cold. I sought the songs, I sent the songs, when the deepest well gave me drops so strong of Death-Father’s wager. I know everything, Odin, where you hid your eye. Who shall sing me into the death-sleep, sling me, when I walk upon the Path of Death, and the tracks I tread are cold — so cold. Early, or in fading day, still the raven knows if I fall. When you stand by the gate of Hel, and must tear yourself free — I shall follow you, across the Resounding Bridge with my song. You are freed from the bonds that bind you, you are loosed from the cords that held you. Wealth dies, friends die, the self must also die. Yet one thing never dies: the fair fame one has earned.
Ok..so there is a few more versions of this out there. The original with just Einar and Wardruna (I mean that is the one with spoken word in it as well) and there's two versions with Aurora. One with her alone and another with her and Oslo Fagottkor at Træna Festival. All unique in their own way. I chose this with Eivør, because it is the most powerful, but you can pick any one of them and get full on goosebumps. I don't remember if I sent you the lyrics in English, so I'll post them here...just in case :) I love to watch interviews with Einar. He has so much calm around him and just so much......let me come back to that. Lol Let me know if you want me to post the other ones in DC Their music is closely connected to the elements. I mentioned once that they do a collaboration on their last album "Birna" (bear) with Jonna Jinton. She (amongst a lot of other interesting stuff) does recordings of ice when it moves. Those Ice sounds are incorporated in some of their songs on that album. As for what we listened to on the livestream: Gåte (Gaate) and the song Ulveham- translates to riddle and wolf pelt in English.
Awww...now you made me blush
