Helluva Boss: Season 2 Episode 9
Another song to react to from this one, and such perfect character development. Such emotions!

I started watching Helluva Boss because I'm a huge Hazbin Hotel fan and wanted to get some worldbuilding lore. I'll admit that the majority of season 1 just did not vibe with me and I considered not watching the rest, but I'm glad I stuck with it into season 2. I completely understand why people like me were turned off by the earlier episodes, but I'm glad they didn't stick with that vibe through the entire show
All 2 You was Bryce Pinkham's favorite song to sing before the episode Mastermind was released, then he said Mastermind was his favourite. Too bad you do not have enough time to watch some of the taped con panels with the voice actors in the Hellaverse. The fans learn lore and info there, too. As to heaven/hell and character lore, the YT channel Cartoon Universe does an excellent job discussing the Sins, Rings, etc., and points out the original places the lore came from, like the Book of Enoch and other religious texts. Fascinating seeing how some of our current deities are actually descendants of much older gods and goddesses. He also gets into the Goetia and other hellborn.
To But before that song you should react to the Behind the scene version of the opening song from last episode.
Well timed to watch the Halloween episode. lol
The songs 'handle me' and 'over you' are on Spotify. Handle me is actually one of my favourites of the season despite it being a backing song. Worth a listen 🎶
Yes! I love both of them so much!
Also, don't worry, the next episode will have Scooby Doo vibes!
Easter Egg dump! The first sorry recipient, the black and red demon "Oh, it's YOU." "Heeyyy Martha-" And then the other demonness sinner coming out of the shower? That's Mrs Maybell and Martha, both from S1E1 (the teacher and the woman her husband cheated on her with). The guy outside the club was the incubus-imp bouncer in front of Ozzie's nightclub that he gave flak to ("you've got pretty eyes, Daddy" and proceeded to get thrown into a dumpster). The apple mascot was S1E2. The In Memoriam is the memorial for the people who died in S2E2 Seeing Stars where he set the LA film set on fire when he was being Brennan Ragers- the first guy in black and white on the screen was Brennan Ragers, and the second guy on screen was the director. Something you might notice and is a HUGE argument in the fandom is if Blitz is really as poorly literate as he seems to be- you see "im srrry for teh shitty things i sed" for a moment before he deletes it. THere's lots of times where the fandom argues whether he's genuinely that illiterate or if he does it deliberately. Make your own judgement, I tend to think that as crappy a dad he had, it's probably real- Cash sold his kid for a quick buck in S2E1 would he really give his kid a proper education? The voice of Tex is also the voice of Osmodeus (and of a character in Hazbin Hotel!) , James Monroe Iglehart! The whole thing about Stolas wanting to be someone's someone, and lamenting? Go back and rewatch S1E7, right before Blitz calls Stolas to invite him to Ozzie's night club. He's sitting there in front of the TV, morosely eating cereal with a blanket over him, watching a "Hella-Novella" with some impess going "Oh why won't you love me Alejandro!" Stolas: "That's a mood, Gabriella!" On Verosika's arm is a tattoo with a heart and a something inside X-ed out. I THINK it is Blitzo's name. I don't know if anybody has been able to confirm/deny that one but it's a fun one to hypothesize so I tossed it in here for funsies. Last one that is also not confirmed to my knowledge, but sure makes sense- the song at the end, "I'm not over it- I'm over you" - it coming on both inside AND on the car radio outside, and sung by Verosika, suggests it's a song that Verosika herself wrote about the Blitz breakup and got popular for it. Remember...she is a pop star in Hell. It might even be inferred that Verosika's rise to flame came from the fire of passion she got from that whole crappy experience. Again, not confirmed to my knowledge, but lots of fun to hypothesize on!
As you are the collector of the most "Easter Eggs", I hereby dub thee "HELLUVA LORE BUNNY 🐰" ! Hop forth and continue to spread thy impish wisdom! 😆 ...and yes, that is "Blitzo" crossed out on Verosika's arm
All 2 U was the song that got me into Helluva Boss. It was the one my student wanted to sing that led to me eventually falling down the rabbit hole. So that song is special to me, and also one I know really well since we worked on it so much and my student has performed it live with me playing piano and doing backing vocals. You asked about Dennis and we have seen him before. He was at the Hellhound party at Beelzebub's in the last episode of season 1 (after Blitzø and Stolas's disastrous "date" at Ozzie's). He and Blitzø are making out when Loona comes to check on him and ends up taking him home cause he's so drunk. ("Christ on a stick, you would be a Dennis. I'm not fucking a Dennis tonight! I need a Monica or Alejandro in here, stat!") The crowd at the fuck Blitzø party is really fun to look at, actually. I keep noticing more details in the guests. Such as the fact that there are multiple trans guys present (there's a succubus and an imp with top surgery scars, and the imp you pointed out with the "fuk you" glasses has the "female" horns so he's probably trans as well). The diverse crowd of exes goes to show what a chaotic pansexual Blitzø really is, which I think is pretty awesome. The guys Stolas ends up dancing and making out with has a "Better than Blitzo" written on his top. A fun detail in case you didn't notice. :)
Oh, and you should watch the shorts! Like maybe watch all the shorts in one video? Because they are 3-5min long but expand some of the characters.
Great idea! Will I see spoilers though for the last few episodes I haven’t seen yet?
I have a friend who stopped watching when the brakeup happened (the previous episode) and refused to continue watching even though I told him the show was getting better and better. Oh well. Can't please everyone.
I was waiting for you to hear this song. It's my favorite in the entire show and I felt like it was definitely your style.
Yes!
Part of the fandom prefers when the show more of a murder adventure than a romance drama. Don't know how many of those people have bounced by this point, but I'm here for both! As much as the show can be a crude, cringe-inducing horny demon musical, the characters and their dynamics can be satisfyingly nuanced and realistic.
This episode is still heartbreaking to watch 1 year and a half later. Stolas is so lonely and can't see how lonely and self-loathed Blitz is, and they both want the same thing. But of course Blitz thinks he doesn't deserve Stolas and in the end he go away. He can’t fight for Stolas because he has no self esteem
It was crazy good to hear Bryce rock out since I'm used to hearing him sing mostly musical theater stuff. And the part of the song where he sings "what if what if" and whywhywhy" just blew me away. It's one of my favorite songs from the series. And you're right about the writing being spot on. The party highlighed the wreckage brought on by failed romances and in some cases, wounds that didn't quite heal.
The Blitzø (plushie) they burned at the stake, the merch Wally Wackford was selling on the front lawn when Blitzø was going back to the van, and even his bloody tablecloth "disguise" were all Helluva Boss merch! There were actually 3 songs, the song 'handle me' was played in the background of Stolas' and Blitzø's talk. The lyrics "don't touch the pretty thing" were playing when Blitzø was reaching over to rest his hand on Stolas, but he reared back when Stolas sat up. Martha (Southern Bitch) was the target from the 1st episode and the woman that was coming out of the shower in the background was the teacher that hired I.M.P. for the hit.
Wonderful reaction as always, Tim! The songs in this episode were fantastic, and watching Blitz’s denial of Stolas’ feelings be chipped away little by little throughout is so powerful. Vivian has said that while Stolas truly doesn’t think he ever looked down on Blitz, nor ever made their relationship all about the physical intimacy, he in fact did and that is something he and Blitz will have to work through in the future. It’s so heartbreaking to have Stolas verbalize what he needs and wants—someone to care if he stays or goes, someone to want him and hold him, etc…because those are all the things that Blitz wants as well. UGH. I love this show so much! Also, so excited for Hazbin Hotel season 2 to drop tomorrow! 😊
Dennis is from season one episode eight: "Queen Bee" (the episode with Beezlebub, the Sin of Gluttony). Dennis was the guy who Blitzø was making out with while drunk and then Loona found him.
"Christ-on-a-stick you would be a Dennis! Get outta here, I'm not fucking a Dennis tonight! I need a Monica or Alejandro in here stat!" I didn't think that was enough to make him an "ex" but he did run away crying...
