Dev Log Ep4 Week 6: Don't Pet The Animals

Hey, I didn't see you there. Glad you made it. How are things?

Strong, silent type, huh?

Okay, well kick back, grab a beer or a tall glass of Pepto-Bismol, and I'll tell you what I've been up to.

So it's been a hell of a week. I've got a lot on with my day job at the moment and have been crushing some overtime to make sure things stay stable there. Got to pay the bills and keep the lights on. Even though, as a human bat with a box on my head, I perceive the world through sound, I still need those lights to avoid arousing the suspicion of the neighbours.

They shut my water off for half a day last week. This didn't impact development in any way at all, I just thought we were catching up...

No?

Fine. I'll stay on task.

This past week I was mostly animating, and I finished the first of two cut scenes for Scene 4 of the update. I was really worried about these two cut scenes, and I'm still not sure how the second one is going to go, but I am really happy with the first.

These cut scenes combine multiple animations into one sequence, and I'm always unsure how to report them because I know we all like numbers. It feels disingenuous to say I made seven animations, even though that's technically true, when the end result is one cinematic sequence.

Anyway, after I finished that one, rendered it out, and cut it together, I did a handful of stills to bridge the end of the scene to the next cut scene.

That leaves one thing I have been having nightmares about.

The next cut scene.

It's a complicated one and very ambitious. I hope I find a nice way to pull it off and don't go mad.

But if I do, look forward to next week's dev log when I will regale you with the tales of me and my multiple personalities battling the indestructible force and personification of all suffering in the universe, which just so happens to take the shape of a porch pirate that I may or may not have held hostage in the basement for six weeks.

What was I talking about again...
