Daijisho Launcher + RetroArch: Preconfigured for GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, Genesis, PSX (BIOS NOT included).
App Drawer in Nav Bar: Quickly switch between apps from any screen.

Analog Stick Calibration: Tweak stick range and deadzone for ultra-precise gameplay.
L2/R2 Button Fixes: Ensures proper functionality in all games and apps.
Layout Persistence: Once you set your XBOX/NS/etc. layout, it stays after every reboot.
4. Display & Lighting Features

6. Root & Modding Support
Magisk Root: Pre-installed root with Magisk, ready for modules, tweaks, or mods.
7. Storage & Security
Relaxed Scoped Storage: Loosened file-access restrictions so apps can freely read/write without getting blocked. Great for emulators and file managers.
🚧 What’s Still Missing?
More Granular RGB Control: Current GammaRGB only mirrors overall screen color; per-LED adjustments are coming later.
On-Screen Button Mapping: No built-in touch-mapper; use a third-party app like Mantis Pro to assign buttons on-screen.
Emulated Touchpad for External Displays: Right now only screen mirroring is supported. Full touchpad emulation when connected to an external monitor is planned for a future update.
💾 Flashing Requirements
Windows Only: At the moment, the split archive can be flashed via Windows. We’re working on adding Linux/macOS support with the spd_dump tool.
Split Archive Format: Each build is split into three .7z.00x files—extract all parts together with 7-Zip.
Example for RG406H:
RG_406H_GammaOS_Next_Full_v1.7z.001
RG_406H_GammaOS_Next_Full_v1.7z.002

I've tried many times downloading from GitHub, but it always says an error when I extract.. I want to try it on my RG406V now 🥲
Hello can i install it on the RG slide it Will be cool
Okay, I want to win the award for stupidest problem. I cannot get the 7Zip files to decrypt. I'm using the password (the one that's now public) and I'm using it on the Cube Full 001, 002, 003 files., but I keep getting the 7Zip error "wrong password??". Obvious thought is that I've got the wrong files, or perhaps the password doesn't apply. For reference, I'm using the files linked here: https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOSNext/releases/download/v.1.0.0-T820/RG_CUBE_GammaOS_Next_Full_v1.7z.001 and here: https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOSNext/releases/download/v.1.0.0-T820/RG_CUBE_GammaOS_Next_Full_v1.7z.002 and here: https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOSNext/releases/download/v.1.0.0-T820/RG_CUBE_GammaOS_Next_Full_v1.7z.003 as well as the password from here: https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOSNext/releases/tag/v.1.0.0-T820 I hope at least one of those links is wrong, otherwise, I've got a more serious problem than I'd like. Is there a different password for the Cube? Or for the full version?
Update 1: I downloaded the LITE version and it created the PAC just fine. I also tried decrypting the FULL version using WinRAR, and instead of the "wrong password??" message, it specifically stated there was a checksum error in the archive. I've downloaded the file a few times (different machines) and I keep getting the same error. Is it possible there's actually an error in the files on GitHub? Seems super unlikely. Anyone have an idea what's actually wrong? Just to be clear, I'm trying to install the FULL version, so getting the LITE version working is not the victory it might seem. ;-)
Hi! I installed the full version and would like to have the lite instead. Where can I find the instructions and also is the lite version better for the battery life?
Yes, battery life is better because the google apps wont be able to suck battery in background as theyre missing in the lite version. Dont know how much of a difference that makes though. Dont know how to switch to lite but you can use this https://github.com/Universal-Debloater-Alliance/universal-android-debloater-next-generation/ or use an app with root permission to disable/uninstall the apps that are left out in the lite version.
In case anyone else gets the error "sw2276 check baud time out" in ResearchDownload: turn on the device, it will eventually boot to Android Recovery. Reset the device, let it do its thing until it gets to the Android home screen, then turn the device off and attempt to flash with ResearchDownload again.
tried connecting external screen to RG Cube via USBC and it kept restarning the OS for soem reason, worked fine ons tock
(RG Cube) Earphone via type C is bugged. It connected but the sound came out of the speaker not from the earphone
Hi, I need help with the Gamma OS core on an SD card I had used for my miyoo flip and was wondering if you could help me. I had messed up and had used a pixel thing to fix Stardew Valley, I then went into the settings and did a factory reset on the SD card and then it’s just a black screen. Is there a way to fix or uninstall the core for me to use the SD Card again?
I deleted Nether Sx so I could update to the new version and can’t install the new version because Gamma won’t let me. Is there a way to override it so I can install it?
Hi there, I'm a bit confused since I don't bundle Aether/NetherSX with GammaOS. Can you show me a video of the problem when you try to reinstall?
After going into SPRD Download Tool folder and clicking ResearchDownload it keeps coming up with CDLFWDriver Startup Fail. I have been installed unisoc drivers properly and unlock bootloader without any problem. Also tried to install latest c++ drivers but keep failing.
Sorry if it's too late. I had the same issue - from Microsoft site download and install 'Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable', the following versions: Latest, 2005, 2008, and 2010, Instal both X86 and X64 versions even if your PC is 64 bit. Then SPRD Download Tool will work!
Love the Gamma OS Next btw. I have the 406h. Any suggestions for button mods for its size analog stick toppers? They’re pretty small.
what are the exact differences between the full and the lite edition?
It is explained on gitHub, the Lite version doesn't include Google services while the full does. I initially used the full version but after adapting to the Aurora Store and some alternatives for Google applications I switched to the Lite version and not looking back.
Congratulations on 1.0 release! I really appreciate the work you are doing for these devices. I am wondering if there is a known working way to hide root from apps? I love that its rooted and want to keep it that way, but there are a couple of native android games I'd like to play that detect root. I've tried a few different magisk modules and followed a few tutorials, however I've not yet been able to hide root successfully. Other then that, this firmware release is amazing!
I had some games detect root even after completely uninstalling root/magisk
Any tips for Key Mapping android games like Genshin impact for the 406h? Or is that just a cost (loss) to getting gamma?
There is better gamepad compatibility now, you can just use Genshin with the built in gamepad support without depending on the key mapper for on-screen buttons. You could always get a third party app for the ones that don't support gamepad.
thanks a lot, already installed this on my RGCube and noticed a big improvement on playing gamecube and ps2 games, may i ask if is there anyone here can use 3d glasses like rokid or xreal on their rgcube, its not working on my unit from the beginning but works on my odin 2. thanks again.
Incredible. My rg 406h is my favorite device now. Thank you for your work! Quick question: any button combo to change the display brightness? It’s the only thing I still have to regularly use the touch screen for and i gotta wipe my fingerprints off every time.
I'm not sure theres one by default, at least not yet. You can try a buttom mapper app though.
Hi Gamma! First, thank you so much for the incredible work you’ve done with GammaOS for the T820 devices, especially the RG556. The improvements and attention to detail are truly impressive. I wanted to ask if there’s a specific way to report bugs or suggest fixes and features I’d like to see in future GammaOS Next updates for the RG556. Is there a channel or form where I can share my feedback? Thanks again for your dedication and amazing work!
Theres a repo on github where you can file issues for bugs. https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/GammaOSNext/issues
Amazing work, installed it on my 406V without major issues. But I found an issue with Magisk. I installed Apatch without problem, but I can't find a way to uninstall Magisk. It always fails when trying via the app. Would appreciate if you could provide the boot.img without magisk so one can patch it with other root solution while still clean. Edit: Nevermind, got it right. Just one thing, try Star Wars Hunters, it has a bug present in the Anbernic build and I wonder if it is fixable on your side (The bug happens when the game is "full screen" but if you keep it running on "recents" it looks correct. Seems like a weird vsync bug on "fullscren"? It happens in different amount to other apps, like Fortnite Also the console gets really hot when charging off
Hi folks. I'm getting an issue opening the ResearchDownload file, keeps coming up with CDLFWDriver Startup Fail. Anyone got an easy fix? cheers
See comments below. Someone updated C++ drivers and that did the trick.
Arrived at the research download step and selected packet, it recognized that. But play button doesn't work so process never starts. Suggestions?
Are you on Windows? Also have a screenshot at all?
but if MAC OS how to install on my anbernic RG406V?
theres no support for mac rn. I know there'll be support for linux some time, dont know about mac tho.
My 406v is looping over and over again after the bootloader unlock and wont shut down. also, the research download wont open and i get an error of cdlfwd startup fail.
Now im getting no valid os found after a successful setup
When streaming my PC with Artemis/Apollo, moving the right stick slowly causes the left stick to get stuck in the center and can only move horizontally, which makes me to stop moving in the game and I have to recenter the stick and push forward again so that I can move forward again in game. Anyone else have this problem too? Went back to stock os for now. Edit: I just installed the OS again and its seems to be fine now.
Ajdusting stick deadzone helped in my case
Hi Gamma! Keep up the good work! Just a quick question, how do I calibrate the sticks?
Just flashed on my RG406V, very easy, thanks! Head's up in case anyone runs into this like I did, don't leave UnlockBootloader.bat hanging for >30 seconds before plugging in your device and trying to run the program, or it wont work. I just closed the program, unplugged my device, and tried the step again from the beginning and it worked fine.
Just did the update on RG406V and have everything working. Thank you for you efforts! Also for others who are lost on the button remap, KEY_F10 is the anbernic key
Hi, i installed all sucesfully but i cant access to the android/data folders, why i havent superuser access? What can i try?
Did you choose the root option on the left of MiX explorer?
I get an error when extracting, stating that the password is wrong EDIT : I downloaded the RG_CUBE Full version
I just extract with 7-zip version of 2024-11-29 and it is successful on Windows 11. May 7-zip version ? or space when entering password at head or tail of input ?
I have met with CDLFWDriver Startup Fail issue when trying to run ResearchDownload.exe. I resolved it by : --- 1. Download and install VC Redis from MS --- 2. Copy dll files within SPRD_Download_Tool\System\Dependency folder into SPRD_Download_Tool folder
Download the c++ all in one collection. Fixed it for me
RG Cube owners who are having recurring task manager touch issues (I see there's a few on the github): I PERMANENTLY fixed the issues by: 1. Clicking "Analog Calibration" 2. Setting "Analog Deadzone" 10% 3. Generally faffing around after turning on "Auto Rotate", including long pressing on it and selecting/deselecting various options and rotating the device. Then I turned "Auto Rotate" off. Now I don't have the touch issue with task manager any more, even after resetting the device. Increasing "Display size" by one in "Display size and text" settings also helps the task view to be more suited to the small screen.
I also work on Android system from time to time, just how incredible you are being able to make the porting. My deepest respect.
Thanks for all the great work you do on these handhelds! I just tested it out on my RG556, but I'm still getting the screen stutter / frame pacing issues that has plagued most Anbernic handhelds recently. I tried toggling between vulkan / gl, threaded video on/off, and it's still there. Loading up any NES game and scrolling right, I can see the screen skip a frame every second or so. Any idea what might be causing this? Custom firmware on the XX devices seemed to fix it, but I'm not sure exactly what they did or if it's the same issue as here.
Hey there, yes this seems to be a pacing issue at a very deep level in the hardware drivers on this specific device. It requires a deeper look to see if it can be resolved, this issue is specific to the 556. Other Anbernic T820 devices operate fine in this regard. I tried adjusting the timings but something else is causing the issue. Hmm.
I get usb_send failed when trying to unlock bootloader on rg556
Try another cable and port, or another PC. Check drivers.
Hey. I'm having trouble with navigation. when i minimize apps that are open i can't scroll through the list or select to reopen . not sure what im missing here Anbernic 556 Update: Analog deadzone 10% fixed issue for me per your other reply Update 2: that actually doesnt work . opening and closing swipe down menu corrects it tempoarily
After "succesfull" flashing of *.pac file for my RG406V device restarts, but shows screen with "WARNING: NO VALID OS FOUND ! ! !" EDIT: After unlocking bootloader again without 2nd flashing it booted up as expected.
hi gamma, when i load research download app and try to load pac,, i get error mssg, can you help
Make sure that there is enough free disk space, you need 10GB minimum on your PC. I'd try another PC, another cable, make sure it's USB-A TO USB-C. In case that doesn't work, try ``SPD_Research_Tool_R25.21.1401`` from here: https://spdflashtool.com/category/research-tool
Congratulations on the 1.0 release! Everything worked fine but there is some issues on my RG Cube with the Lite GammaOS Next: 1. Recent tasks (or task switcher for open apps when pushing square button) goes nuts with the touch screen. Can barely select a task to open or close tasks. Touch screen works great with everything else. Maybe task view is mapped to the screen wrong? 2. Using ES-DE as a frontend. Small issue that when closing an application, ES-DE will return initially orientated 90 degrees sideways. Then rotates back to correct orientation. I'll report any other issues I find. Thank you for making this. I can feel things are snappier already 😄👍👍
Hi, thanks for the feedback! Try calibrating your sticks regarding the first issue. And maybe enable a 10% deadzone too. For the second issue, thats unusual, but maybe try disabling autorotation and see if that helps
While trying to unlock the bootloader I get the error message "second port not supported"
That's actually normal, as long as the bootloader shows as unlocked
Mantis Pro not detect the RG406V controller.
There will be a built in keymapper in gammaos with the next update or so.
It works like a charm on my RG556: thank you very much!
Anyone else running into an issue where it won't show up in the ResearchDownload app and start installing? Mine rotates through the start up Anbernic screen with the Unlock message, then goes to the charging screen and shuts off.
Is the play button pressed in the app?
This is great is there any hope for rg557 and what kind of knowledge do you need to start working on hacking these devices I’m a programmer as well but not good with soldering … how can I start getting into this hobby
First hurdle is bootloader unlock, we're stuck without that first for the 557.
