Happy birthday! My favorite is Inglorious Basterds, which is a masterpiece. The Hateful Eight is up there as well and doesn’t get as much love as it deserves.
Happy Birthday, Quentin! My current favorite has to be Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair at The Vista. An absolutely electric theatrical experience. Not to mention, the sold-out crowd erupted when Michael Madsen’s name hit the screen, and I found myself moved to tears. Then seeing Sally Menke’s credit, someone my wife knew, moved me even more. Bless your artistic collaborator’s hearts. Archives has some of the absolute best film criticism ever. Not “podcast good.” Not “for filmmakers good.” I mean period. It’s sharp, it’s insightful, it’s personal, it’s hilarious. And it’s fun for regular people too. That balance is almost impossible. It doesn’t feel academic or show-offy. It feels alive. Like people who love movies more than oxygen just going for it with taste and memory and war stories. It’s going to be remembered. I really believe that. As a populist cultural gem. One of those things people point to and say, “That’s why I love movies.”

One of the boldest ans baddest cowboy's to shoot pictures. Tarantino had a point to make, and he made it in style. To the greatest if not the greatest of the masters of genre cinema. They told me I'd grow out of him but he's never lost his zest. As much as I love my contemporary arthouse greats like Bi Gan, Weerasethakhul, Lav Diaz, and who so be it, you tell me a scene that can get generations to come to get up in the morning like the Shoshanna vs Frederick scenes in Inglorious Basterds. As for my favorite... Once Upon a Time in Hollywood all the way!

Happy birthday, Mr. Tarantino!!! May you live 100 years! It's very difficult to pick just one! Perhaps as filmmakers, we have to go with the Holy Grail of indie filmmaking, Reservoir Dogs. Like Scorsese's Mean Streets, it is absolutely dazzlingly raw and dark.

This year I took my mother, wife and 13 year old daughter to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. It was a great generation spanning event for our family. 100 years Quentin! Whenever I'm feeling down, I watch one of your films, an interview with you, or a documentary about you, and I instantly know that everything will be alright. Every new film of yours becomes my favorite! "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" is my absolute number 1! Every time I watch it, I notice something new. My latest discovery is the "Giant" movie poster on the wall that Charlie's girls walk past. I just love the detail! True Romance is by some distance my favourite thing he’s ever written. That film means so much to me for a variety of reasons. PS - I cannot wait to see The Popinjay Cavalier in the West End next year!
I watched Beverly Hills Cop 2 for the first time last night, I did not know it was directed by Tony Scott, and I swear he used the same footage from Detroit in both movies! True Romance is my favourite movie of all time. I'm sure there is a reddit post somewhere about this which of course I will now have to seek out ! So I presume QT may not have set the original story in Detroit etc etc.

P.S. Nick Castle told me about this young director who was getting all this buzz, and took me to see Reservoir Dogs at the Chicago International Film Festival. When Pulp Fiction came out two years later, I went to see it on opening week at the Chelsea multiplex, but it was sold out, so I bought a ticket to The River Wild, sneaked into your picture, and stood in the back. Absolutely worth it! I went back the next day and bought a ticket to your picture and didn’t attend to even things out. (And I later saw The River Wild on cable.)
