HAIKYUU 1x9 UNCUT

Haikyuu might not be the show for yall if you don’t like the introspective moments that cut from the action, just a heads up. It definitely gets better in season 2 once the characters are established, but there’s a lot of gradual realistic growth and if you don’t have the patience for it this just might not be the show for you

Saying this honestly and respectfully- you are coming in way too hot on this show and it's unfounded. Haikyuu is objectively a good show. I think the hang up could be that you three are coming from your first animes being series that have basically overpowered MCs (AOT, DS, JJK, CM, even DN), and that is not the case for haikyuu. This show really builds up the storyline between the characters individually, the characters as a team, the setting and the team's place in the scheme of everything, etc. Not at all to say that you aren't allowed an opinion, but to be fair, I don't think a fair shot is even being given to the show. Yeah, you're watching it. But it's apparent time and time again that you've already made up your mind on the show and if you'll like it or not without giving it a fair shake like you've given every other series, because it's got a different type of story build-up. I know you three are very new to anime, and that is amazing. But it's also important that you guys need to know that every anime has it's own individualized pacing and you need to be able to understand that it the scheme of the individual show. Not every anime is going to have an overpowered MC and is going to be more slice of life. This show is entirely more realistic that any of the other animes you have watched, which is a nice change of pace. Haikyuu is objectively a very good show if you ACTUALLY give it a chance and try to understand the characters and their motivations and thought processes. It's a good story and it's a fun show, it's absolutely BELOVED, and it's incredibly disheartening that you three aren't even giving it a chance because you've decided you don't like the characters this soon in when you watch one episode at a time. This is not coming from a place of trying to dogpile. But it is coming from a place of trying to encourage you to not need the crutch of an insanely strong MC or crazy complex system to be able to understand a show and it's characters.

Their mindset and the way they see this story are completely different from mine. I feel like they’re just way too impatient. They don’t really have the patience to follow a character’s journey. They want everything to be like instant noodles: quick, simple, and straight to the result. They don’t seem interested in the process. I don’t think they’re completely heartless or that they have zero empathy. But honestly, maybe they just don’t have enough empathy to understand why a character acts the way he does. For example, the main character isn’t talented. He doesn’t score a lot. He’s inexperienced, immature, and makes a lot of mistakes. And because of that, they get angry at him, insult him, and even tell him to leave. But they’re missing the most important point: this character needs time to grow. Nobody is perfect. They aren’t perfect either. Everyone has weaknesses. Everyone has things they’re still learning and things they haven’t figured out yet. That’s exactly why we need a process. We need time to fail, learn, change, and grow. That’s what I’m criticizing here. Their view is too one-sided. They judge the character based only on what he can do right now, without trying to understand why he is like that or where his journey is going. There’s very little empathy and very little actual analysis. When I first watched this anime, I never looked at the character the way they do. I understood him. I could feel what he was going through. In some moments, it almost felt like I was seeing myself in him. I understood why he still had weaknesses. I understood why he made mistakes. And I understood what the author was trying to say through his journey. This story has so many messages. There isn’t really a simple good side or bad side. There isn’t just a hero and a villain. There are different characters, different stories, different experiences, and different ways of looking at the same situation. And what they’re all trying to do is become a better version of themselves than they were yesterday. It’s not only about winning or losing. It’s not only about scoring points, making mistakes, or being useful to the team. It’s about asking yourself: “What did I learn from this experience? How will I change because of it?” But right now, it feels like they only focus on blaming the character. They care about whether he wins or loses, whether he scores or not, whether he is useful or not. And they barely talk about the other details, the character development, or the deeper messages of the story. That’s honestly what frustrates me the most. This anime has so many meaningful messages. It’s actually one of the shows I’ve rewatched so many times whenever I feel tired or have a hard time in life, because it gives me a lot of positivity and reminds me to keep going. I’ve also read the manga many times, and I’ve never once felt disappointed in the main character, Hinata Shoyo. He’s positive. He works really hard. And the changes he goes through later are amazing, but they also make sense because we get to see the process that leads him there. So seeing them react to Hinata like this honestly makes me sad. He’s just a kid who has only recently entered high school. Of course he’s inexperienced. Of course he’s going to make mistakes. Of course he’s not going to be amazing immediately. That’s literally the point of his character. Maybe someday I’ll support them again. Maybe they’ll eventually change their perspective and start looking at the story with a more positive mindset. But for now, I think I’m going to stop this journey with them here. I’m honestly tired of being disappointed. Maybe they’ll continue saying things I don’t agree with, and I don’t want to keep watching that happen. And when I think about what’s coming next in the anime, combined with how impatient they are now, I feel like I’m probably just going to be disappointed again. So yeah… goodbye.

Love this comment. I completely agree with you. I stopped watching their reaction to Haikyu after the first episode. I understand that we all have different mindsets but I love Haikyu so much that I couldn’t stand their negativity towards this show.

i wanna say that what asahi did was really courageous i dont do sports but i used to be a part of a dance studio and got in competitions and on my very last comp i did very badly and felt humiliated and competitions were never scary to me but after having that one messed up performance i just couldnt bring myself to dance anymore and blamed myself. Fast forward, i still havent overcomed the fear and ive never ever tried dancing ever again until today when it used to be something i really love. So yes these situations really do exist and it really is that hard to overcome it! I really hope seb stops being so negative in future reactions about this anime, its not meant to be all action and super fast paced like jjk 😭 and please 2 episodes in one sitting please like others have suggested time and time again 🙏

this!!! asahi’s mindset was totally understandable, i think its really important to remember that athletes dedicate so much of their time to learning and improving that setbacks like this can really hit hard, as a vb player myself, i have gone through really rough patches throughout varsity so i totally empathize with asahi’s pov :(( athletes mental health is generally not talked about much and i’m glad we got some media representation thru this show

Have you guys seen a libero in a real, live volleyball game? They're actually really great! They keep the ball in play, it's almost amazing how they can move like that in real life. Try watching clips from a Japanese game, they're really good.

tara · August 21, 2026

lowkey i know this has been brought up before with other animes (and fell on deaf ears) but haikyuu genuinely is just so long (80+ eps if i'm not wrong) that if you guys continue to upload just one episode per week you're gonna take years to get through all the episodes. so PLEASE consider making this a two-in-one show !! This way you'll have an easier time following along the story as well, please consider this guys ‼️‼️😭

J
J-Lee · August 21, 2026

yes pls, 2 episodes in one video 🙏🏻
