Last week, Israel carried out airstrikes on a defunct airbase in northwestern Syria, in an action both stated and perceived as aimed at Turkey. We offer a little background on Israel and Turkey’s regional rivalry in the context of Syria’s civil war, and speculate on how Israel’s actions might have another target in their sights: Turkey’s NATO membership.

I can't believe this is how I get my monthly mental flashback in the form of more things I didn't know about the Marquis de Mores.
The No Gods No Mayors episode on Johannesburg feels very adjacent to to this episode.
Just an FYI, John McLaughlin hosted the McLaughlin Group, a sour-faced right-wing old man with a booming baritone who hosted the precursor to Bill Maher's Real Time or Politically Incorrect. The patrician closet Nazi William F. Buckley hosted Firing Line, and neither of the two crossed over to the other's show
I remember this being on all the time growing up. Specifically the host's bombastic pronouncements of WRONG! to everyone's predictions on the panel. And how he would take any chance to interrupt Pat Buchanan's nonsense du jour to throw it to Eleanor. Cursed show that I have paradoxically fond memories of
Scott Adams actually wrote down Mattie's name just before he died and nobody knows why
Wild wiki on this brah: "June 3. On the morning of June 9, 1896, the Tuareg sprung their attack. De Morès was able to kill several of his attackers before he was gunned down"
never glad, but sometimes glant
Vxbbxk
The Marquis de Mores is also my favorite NGNM episode. I visited the 'Chateau' in Medora, ND during a cross-country drive in May, and I'd recommend it to anyone passing through that specific stretch of I-90. Medora is very small and remote, it has one of those weird minimum-sized public buildings that looks like it might be a post office, until you realize it's the county courthouse (!) With the context of the Marquis' later life, the preserved house and museum is a very worthwhile stop. I took photos of the wine collection that was recovered from under the house by CCC workers in the 1930s, and of the handwritten wine list for the first supply run to the house. The exhibits include no mention of the Marquis' subsequent politics.
This and Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich are probably my favorites as well. Absolutely wild stories.
Mattie alludes to Bikinis, TX huh maybe?
A town bought and re named but the owner of the bikini’s chain of breastaurants
Fuck. Fuuuuuck. I need to hear you cover Francisco Macías Nguema at some point. Just absolute depravity and madness. The worst guy nobody ever talks about.
Lions Led By Donkeys did an episode on him way back in the Before Times, but I’d love to hear No Gods No Mayors take a shot
Fascinated with the lore implications of Scott Adams(?) fearing the Mayortaculus, but the girls serving it and seeing it as a more benevolent entity. Except for the part where it ate Speedy.
ate who? [wind whistles through an empty universe]
I cannot believe you got through the intro of this "dessert" episode without calling it Blood Pudding.
FUCK
I was confused by the lack of naval themed conversation, even though this is about majors?
oh no I wasn't aware this podcast was good; now I have to listen to it
it's fantastic. highly recommend starting at the beginning as it has quite a bit of plot continuity from episode to episode
just getting started (shamefully late)! ladies, i LOVED the pitch for a giallo version of The Menu but i wasn't sure why you were pitching it to Scott Adams, it doesn't seem like a Dilbert vibe
the really sad truth is that younger millenials remember the hanging chad because it was a halloween costume in how i met your mother
Guns Shmuns, picturing Mattie Blonde is all I’m doin
As a practicing structural engineer, I can state with confidence that putting bodies into the foundation is strongly advised against because human flesh and bones would not be a suitable replacement for rebar. There's also ethical issues too, I suppose.
I think a grand-uncle of mine was mayor of Taipei (not sure if appointed by the Japanese occupation). Rumors are he was assassinated by the Yakuza via sabotaged surgery (like that joke in The Office)
This is one of those urban legends my mom told me. Not sure what parts I misheard but yeah
Putting charcoal and beef in a censer to cleanse and purify in the name of the mayortaculus. Mayorally catholic podcast
Best work Scott Adams has ever done.
If the Marquis de Morès had an RPG it just would've brought the first synagogue bombing 75 years earlier in history
In my late 30's and a nerd, got that joke.
Is it warding off the politgeist?
Thank you for not misgendering Riley, I know she's very sensitive about this.
Such a green flag and a sign of a true fan
Hehe thought the message yesterday about “municipal issues” may have been a no gods no mayors reference - i was right!
I guess this is the obligatory call to "listen to bloodwork"
