William Lantigua
This week, we cover possibly our most embattled and empaneled mayor, Willy Lantigua. Municipal meeting minutes include: Coconut water poisoning, dkdkflflfiffnfkrdjheb, Time to Embattlement (TTE), Deputy Neelix, The (International) Garbage Truck Conspiracy, the mayor that marries you, and a real smoothed-out town.

The horrifying realization that Jim Jones is somewhere in the Mayortaculus order
Historical note about the labor struggles in Lawrence, MA: The slogan "Bread and Roses" is associated with 1912 strikes there.
Wouldn’t the “Cloth Belt” be more of a “Sash”?
Or a cummerbund.
let your grouses become your spouses at the Grand Jury of success
the paving thing is classic Caribbean politics. it's beautiful to see us moving up in the world

Eddie Alfred Jr., the former mayor of Fenton, Louisiana, was recently arrested for taking home essential documents before leaving office. The town operates as a speed trap on US highway 165, and gets 92% of its budget from fines. A Propublica article about the town has in its title "If You Fight Your Ticket, the Mayor Is Your Judge" since, up until a couple years ago, he was also the judge of the town's court.
Riley trying to introduce breakfast updates to NGNM under the guise of a drink check, stand firm November and Mattie!!
Stunning work 🔥
No es Quid pro Quo pero Quid pro Que
Have you guys every done an episode on George Dale, the anti-Klan mayor of Muncie, Indiana? Idk if you’ve ever done a good mayor but his story is really cool and it feels relevant to living through trump 2 with such a broken media ecosystem
makes me proud to be a resident of the great commonwealth of massachusetts... a story about how being a massachusetts guy is not about where you're born, it's about how good you are at drinking with the boys, doing small time corruption, jokingly threatening violence, seriously threatening violence, being friends with cops wokely, things of this nature
Yay! Thank you! I lived in Lawrence during Lantigua's mayorality and I had forgotten half of this nonsense because it was, truly, constant absurdity and badness (like the publishing of the recall list.) The fire station closures were extremely chaotic but he wasn't entirely wrong? One firefighter getting terminated for not showing up for work when his FMLA ran out because his wife hadn't died yet (she died on Tuesday when he was ordered to return on Monday) while other guys were collecting disability while working full-time construction jobs (extremely common firefighter stuff.) A neighbor owned a restaurant and lived in fear of getting on Lantigua's bad side. The school thing with Wilfredo Laboy also involved pizza contract corruption. It was impossible to keep up with it all at the time.
Since it sounds you may be transitioning (heh) away from the Riley bit, might as well drop that "hah! If I were Riley I'd probably cave" has been a recurring thought. Incidently I'm currently trying to schedule an appointment with a gender therapist.
Speaking of NJ - the late Sharpe James of Newark could be a good one
American Gangster is set in Harlem, you fool
I can only hope that the Mayortaculus deigns to give us a crazy NZ mayor - say, for example, Tim Shadbolt.
Well no wonder that police chief caved to the pressure to do crimes, he was still reeling from the failure of Daikatana
So THAT'S why Riley needed gravel.
The theme slaps.
Sometimes I'l sad my city doesn't have a Mayor, but I have a feeling our City Council does a better job.
Yooooo Worcester T and G mentioned
Yeah baby Massachusetts baby hometown hero nobody does it better yeaaaah
I understand perfectly when Riley was talking about the bottom of the garden, unlike my countrywoman, Mattie.
The spectre of Belatro is haunting November dissertation
Neelix has never properly paid for his crimes
Going through voyager rn with my boyfriend and I started out liking him so much and then there were like 7 'Neelix is a jealous bitch with no boundaries' plot lines in a row and he started getting really annoying. he does cook a mean Leola Root tho
Podcasters are like bipedal horses. They require constant medical supervision and soothing or they die
Drinking too much Coconut Water can cause Potassium poisoning, because that's the most prominent electrolyte in it. There was a guy who died of it something like a decade ago, but he drank gallons of the stuff over the course of an afternoon of running.
Riley is going to have to be cautious, then. Her anti-androgen is known to preserve potassium
what a GUY
This one's for the misophonia girlies
Truely one of the Mayors of Mayortown, which along with „The Ballad of Wiliam Lantigua“ and „It Paves“ would make wonderful movie titles. Also for the fellow film nerds, they would look fun in a book, in what I only know as „Kapitälchen“, which is a very cute word and might only have brought up to share that fact. Apparently the English word is simply small capitals.
delighted to listen and find out whether Deputy Neelix is A. someone who's just named that (seems unlikely) B. a deputy who embodies some quality that reminded one of the hosts of the talaxian Neelix from Star Trek: Voyager or C. is actually somehow a reference specifically to Lt. Barclay's cat
I mixed up Nemik and Neelix and thought that Nemik from star wars Andor would be riffed into the story somehow
mfw i become embattled
