Future plans and the next game

Hello! Monstergirl Expedition got its final release. So, what’s next? A lot of changes coming, let’s go through all of them.

First of all, Mongirl Expedition wasn’t as successful as I hoped it would. Facing this fact, I am facing a choice between closing down Patreon and pushing any development to a hobby role or making some big changes and trying again. In short, I will be switching to a purely technical role while my friend will be creating all the ideas and game concepts for the upcoming games.

This may sound weird to my old supporters and long-time players, but it’s the only way to move forward and keep Patreon afloat. Plus, it’s already a fact that my design ideas aren’t popular and don’t click with players. Or at least with a lot of players. So, switching to a tech focus will allow me to get more time and cover real-life stuff while still being able to continue working on games.

As for my friend, who will be creating game design ideas, he has some experience working on small projects. So, he won’t be just a random person thrown into the development process. As for the popularity and player feedback, we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

At the moment, we are finalizing the main concept for the next game. And it’s a far cry from what you can see on this page. The new game will be an experiment to explore new areas aside from the monster girl theme that was used before. This time it will be more of a slice-of-life game/dating sim with 3D models instead of 2D drawn art. Yes, it’s a pretty big change, but after talking it through, we arrived at the conclusion that it could be a part of the low popularity problem.

So, the new game may not be your cup of tea, but you can also wait for it to release and give it a shot. I felt it would be only fair to give the players a heads-up since the change is so big from the previous game. Either way, the first release should roll out January 14th-16th if nothing big happens. Yes, we’ll try to maintain the previous schedule and avoid any pauses unless forced to.

That’s about it. Thanks for supporting me!

I would say to not give up and continue trying. Make smaller games to improve your craft and then expand on the ideas that are popular/good. I might be biased myself since I do a bunch of smaller games (and a lot of people tell me to continue one game or another). There's a saying in the writer's world that says something like: "every author has 1000 bad stories in them, they just have to get them all out." The same thing applies to art and game design. You might get some hits, you might get some bad games. But you just have to get on the horse and keep trying. Of course, if its a monetary issue, I don't blame you. Although you can expand to Steam and more pages if that is the case. - From: A fellow game dev
