I am here for the Castle Squirrel by Steve Wolfhard. You don't even need to tell me about it. 100% My ADHD said yes when I saw the word squirrel. And 40 pages?!?! I might even FINISH IT. [gasp]
Umm. Did you just catfish me with a squirrel book??? Searching for Castle Squirrel by Steve Wolfhard gets me a sad response saying it's not available as a book ... I need to go cry sad tears now. Be for real, did you get an early copy and you're super best friends with the guy who has a cool last name who wrote/illustrated it? I need to know.
Started reading A song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) after watching the shows for years, and surprise surprise the man can write. The character ages and certain details hit like a flashbang. But his overall prose and storytelling is so fantastic. My big weirdo suggestion is a short manga called Salman. There's no other way to describe it but a bullied middle school student masturbates into a river, and then years laters learns that because of that he is now the father of this weird half salmon man. It's an oddly touching and sentimental story about fatherhood an unexpected responsibility. I encourage everyone to atleast look up the design for the salmon man. It gets me every time.
That Salman suggestion sounds right up my alley hahah. Great recs!!
Nice, shoutouts to Glacier Bay manga, just about everything they translate/publish is a banger.
I was checking around on their website and they have some very cool titles listed there. can confirm the printing and packaging quality of the book is lovely
I’ve been reading the manga Asadora! by Naoki Urasawa. Really great kanji story that focuses on deeply meaningful interpersonal relationships between the characters.
Hell yeah player. Shoutout big readers. As of September I’m taking six classes, so less time for reading. But during the summer I liked Hothouse Bloom by Austyn Wohlers, and I really liked all the John Le Carré I’ve been reading - Absolute Friends was good, and A Perfect Spy might be his best that I’ve read so far. Heaven by Katie Skelly was awesome. I loved Bill Griffith’s Invisible Ink, but a friend told me that Nobody’s Fool was better - looking forward to that one. And over everything, I’ve been slowly making my way through The Last Stand by Nathaniel Philbrick for a few months. That’s one that makes me feel crazy 😎 Hell yeah
Almost done with No Ghosts by Max Lury, which was recommended by Jeff Vandermeer. If you like stuff like Backrooms you’ll like this.
Thank you for the recommends :) I’ve just been reading a lot of Brandon Sanderson, the world building is very interesting. Just finished Yumi and the nightmare painter after really enjoying the misborn series. I recommend warbreaker (or really most stuff) by Brandon Sanderson, the The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry pratchett, the creative act by Rick Ruben, boy from Venus by shen, think like a monk by jay shetty, and it’s not a book but I still think about Interface by “ u m a m i “ on YouTube
Huge shoutout to the boy from venus! Shen has been crushing it with that story. Thank you for the recs!
Thank you for the recommendations, I’m pretty sure I’ve see that older Solaris cover on my ma’s shelf I’ll have to check it out! I read a lot digitally, I read all of the Dungeon Crawler Carl books on my phone, haha. Do you have a strong preference for physical books?
I do enjoy having a physical book, but All Tomorrows for example was a story I read online for free through Kosemen’s website. I loved it so much I went ahead and got a physical copy just to show support to the author and show it off to people lol
Hell yeah
Thanks for the rec's!
