AMNESIA. The End of Chapter 1

Hello friends,

I’m writing to you straight from the heart today to share what’s been on my mind lately.

Exactly one month ago, in mid-April, I hit a huge milestone: 9 years since I first started game development. For the last 6 of those years, I’ve been completely poured into "Amnesia."

Lately, working on the game has been getting harder and harder. There were times when I literally had to force myself to pose characters for the upcoming scenes. Of course, the exact opposite happened too - out of nowhere, I’d get this sudden burst of energy and a deep desire to create something truly amazing for future scenes. In those moments, I’d dive into work just like I did during my very first years on this journey.

But honestly, those moments of inspiration don’t happen as often as I wish they did right now.

I have to admit, developing "Amnesia" has taken much longer than I ever intended. As a result, the game's core concept feels a bit outdated now. Features like the relationship star system and the FreeRoam mechanics might have made sense in the past, but today they feel completely irrelevant and only slow down whole progress.

Let me reassure you right away: so much work has already gone into "Amnesia" that I simply don't have the right to abandon it! BUT at the same time, there is still so much left to do. It gets really discouraging to realize that, at my current pace, I’d have to invest my creative energy into this project for several more years just to bring it to its logical conclusion.

I feel like I'm trapped in a vicious circle. On one hand, I deeply want to finish this project. But from a creative standpoint, I just don’t have the strength left to work on the visual scenes for "Amnesia" as an artist anymore. This only worsens my long-standing struggle with finding artists and maintaining a decent production speed.

On the other hand, I have so many fully formed ideas for smaller, story-driven games. I’ve been dreaming of bringing them to life completely on my own as an artist, and I have all the energy and passion in the world for them - but zero time. I feel chained to "Amnesia" by my obligations, forcing myself to push back the very ideas that spark my creativity for years into the future.

So, where do we go from here? Here is what I’m thinking.

I am ready to continue steering "Amnesia" as a project manager rather than an artist. There will be rare exceptions, of course - as I mentioned, when that irresistible urge to create a scene strikes, I won't hold myself back. But I refuse to let this game stay in development for another 10 years, which is exactly what will happen at our current pace if nothing changes.

To solve the artist crisis once and for all, I want to launch a parallel project: an Academy. This will be a continuous recruitment program designed to train newcomers, helping them build their skills and practice until they can produce visuals that match the quality standards of "Amnesia." I see this as the ultimate solution to our biggest roadblock over the past few years - the lack of consistent content production.

Right now, we are actively working on one final update for "Amnesia" that will wrap up Chapter 1. This update will finish all the necessary FreeRoams for Kate and Elena, and we’ll also be adding night scenes, special renders, and other polish. The BDSM room will be fully modeled and ready, though its actual content will only drop in Chapter 2.

Yes, we are dividing the game into two chapters. This will also solve the massive file size issue, as the game currently clocks in at over 20 GB. I recently did a quick rough count of everything we’ve done so far: over 150,000 words, more than 10,000 renders, and over 1,000 animations! That amount of content could easily pass for a massive standalone game on its own.

P.S. After everything I’ve shared, I want to emphasize once again: following this upcoming final update that wraps up Chapter 1, I have absolutely no plans to cancel "Amnesia." I simply want to shift my focus. Let’s discuss this situation together in the comments. I just don't have the energy to keep focusing on the exact same things anymore - when you keep doing the same things, the results don’t change. It’s time to change our approach.

Thank you for your support, Super Alex.

Super Alex.

You know what I'd like to see? The protagonist cumming in Elena's cereal and she noticing but pretending not to notice and eating it, with a nice close-up of her mouth as she eats a spoonful of cum-filled cereal. Perfect for the Dom route.

I personally think this is a good decision if you work with a team you trust. It lets you do project management and quality control. I think this qill even speed up the process of development in the long run. So dont listen to all the negativity, they are talking from fear because of past events... all in all, i feel positive.

Hi Alex, I'm really intrested. I've been messing with DAZ3D for years, making renders just for fun. But then I left it to focus on AI rendering and started to work as graphic designer on a game and still working on it in collaboration with the main dev. I'm clearly not at your level of fidelity, so this project would be a great opportunity for me to learn, either DAZ3D or more AI. I've that early rage of creativity burning in me. So if you have a slot, would be truly glad to join.

Is it really that hard to create a sex scene with Alexandra? She had the chance in the scene where they're alone in the living room and dance and then go to bed... damn it, do something similar and have some penetrations. This game is all about her, don't mess with us. An ending without that makes this game pointless. End with a sex scene with Alexandra and go out on a high note. Don't disappoint us.

Ciao Alex, congratulations on your work. The images are wonderful, and so is the game. I read what you wrote and I don't want to bore you. I would have liked you to have taken more care and advanced the story in the updates, which is intriguing, and the reason for the amnesia, the mystery of what happened. Obviously, also the growing relationships with the protagonists. but if I can give some advice I would focus on that.

I think you should just drop the sandbox thing entirely and just make it a visual novel for chapter 2 if u intend to continue the project. It could save a bunch of time coding and making unneccessary backgrounds and just focus on the story. I and many others have followed the story for years at this point, and still it doesnt have any sex scene yet with the 3 main girls. It is just my 2 cents, still support you and the project but people have valid reasons to be upset.

I started playing this game because of the high quality of the characters, and I am a user who continues to root for the game to turn out well. Honestly, even before the remaster, the lack of progress in the story made me wonder what the developer was trying to achieve. When the remaster was announced, I had many concerns, thinking, "The game isn't even properly finished yet, and they're remastering it?" Although the developer seemed passionate about the remaster and seemed to be putting their mind to it, I was disappointed to see the sluggish progress after its release. To put it bluntly, it is true that I even wondered if they remastered it just to milk money out of us. Nevertheless, the reason I couldn't lose interest in this game was that my first impression was good, and my personal belief that it could become a great work if the developer made it well was what keeps me rooting for the developer to this day. Reading the post, I felt that the developer must have had a lot of concerns, and I do think they have affection for the game. However, even with a lot of affection, it is not easy for the creator to carry this on for such a long period. I have been doing my main job for nearly 10 years, but there are times when I feel exhausted along the way. I don't think it is strange for the creator to feel that way, but looking at the quality of the game they have created so far, I don't think that serves as an excuse. Honestly, rather than agreeing with the creator's opinion in the post, I can't help but worry that the current development speed of Amnesia might slow down even further. I think it is crucial how the creator persuades others to resolve these concerns. Also, regarding Chapter 2, while many other users have offered their opinions, this is my view. I think it would be better to finish Chapter 1, listen to the backers' opinions on how the game should move forward, and then produce Chapter 2 by incorporating some of the suggestions that are feasible. Do you know the recently released game called Crimson Desert? This game also received negative reviews when it first came out, but it is a case where the evaluation improved again as they gradually patched and improved the inconvenient aspects—of course, Cyberpunk 2077 was there before that. So, to summarize my opinion, I think the game might move in a better direction if the developers listen to user feedback and make improvements and refinements. I am leaving this message because I believe that while the developers are working hard, it would be good to make some changes through communication.

Star system outdated. Wasn't the star-system added in one of your dozen remakes? How can it then be 'old' and outdated - makes no sense, or the fact is the remake was just pure BS. There has barely been any proper Progress in Amnesia during ALL these years. Half of, if not more, of the content, is in the "freeroam". Why not just make it a simple VN that has perhaps VERY little freeroam where you can check in on the ladies. Take now for example, how long has it been since we had any actual content update for Alexandra??? This is all because of "gotta let E and K catch up"." WHY? This is why freeroam and sandbox games rarely work from a narrative point of view. We've spent years watching Amnesia 'grow', yet there's really not much happening AT ALL. The "MC" has barely had any S3X in ALL these fkn years of development. We have barely moved anywhere with the ladies. It's funny that you NOW start whining about it getting hard, tedious etc etc, since half the fkn content lately has been pure A.I. Just like "lucky mark" this is another VN that has barely any actual content, and you'll have to wit a Decade for some actual interesting 'action' and it's usually towards the last few updates. You better finish this project with a nice red bow before you even consider working on another project. You have already wasted SO many years of everyone's time with this VN. Why dont you make yet another remake? Get rid of the freeroam completely, and the star system, skills etc. Write for the first time ever, an ACTUAL story, you can still use the scenes for the lades used in the freeroam, just write them into the narrative. I personally have struggled to keep giving YOU and this VN another chance for the past 5 or so updates. I know many that jumped ship a year ago. But the thing is, there's some things I really liked in Amnesia, so dumb as *I* am I kept giving this a new chance. Just to have yet another update with some blueballing short pointless content. We all have our faves, Elena is my least fave, I personally wouldn't mind if she got written out. Also I assume Elena is the same as the b-tch in "LM" ? Knowing then what and how she turns out, makes it zero interesting to pursue her. Kate is interesting, her face has always felt a bit off, even worse now with your 'road of laziness' AI over-use. Alexandra has been interesting from minute 1 til the last content she got. Theres was an air of mystery around her. I remember discussing with a friend, what is Alex's actual job? Is she a stripper or something? This was back in the *original* version, before remakes. Where we also had visit from another 'milf' and her dau...tenant. Think the milf was either a colleague or a sister to Alexandra? Where are they now? Alexandra felt like she had split personalities. One scene she's super h*rny and is willing to do almost anything with the MC. Then she's stonecold in the next, where her personality fits that of a dominatrix. This is mental whiplash for those that TRY to squeeze out any sense of story and character growth/progression in this "All-over-the-place-VN". What I remember (might have forgotten something) the only actual S3X we got, was with that chick running the store that 'used' the MC. And MC's (ex) girlfriend? Two completely uninteresting characters. Sure the ex-girlfriend SHOULD be interesting since she is/was MC's ex. But thanks to the overuse "amnesia plot" we have no means of growing to like her as a player/reader. I seriously wanted to tell her to f-ck off and never come back, in that update where they finally 'do it' in the park. What about that wife of the woodworker, carpenter or w/e it was. Almost forgot about her, and the idea of MC being 'allowed' to impregnate her. Why not build more on that, instead of these dumb meaningless blueball scenes in freeroam? I want more content with Alex, you have basically ruined the flow and interest in her by going SO many updates with her completely *gone* from the game. I seriously don't see myself having the interest to bother with this slow VN anymore. So go ham, use AI for everything, if there's anything left that isn't made by AI in the game? I applauded the visuals and animations in the 'original' version of the game. It was good as it was, the AI just made it all feel like two different artists worked on the same scene, and it's jarring, and ruins EVERYTHING that happens in that scene. So give up on the lazy tool called AI, or go 100% AI, at least it might be consistent (probably not since it's sloppy AI). Way too much time has passed without any progress with Alex or some sort of story. The last scene/event in my memory that felt special is the event with Alex where they were meant to go out (disco? club?) which they never did. Alex was pretty in that event. And it was hot. It was a lovely side of Alex to see. I'm all for slowburn, as I prefer it to build up to the "moment of intimacy", as I literally hate VNs that throw s-xscenes at you within 10 minutes of zero buildup. In Amnesia, banging Alexandra, will actually mean something. BUT again since it's been forever since she was even present in the game, it feels like we're starting from square 1 with her again, not in the narrative, but from players PoV. If I didnt like her as much, I would've completely forgotten she existed. Even less interested in 'banging' her. Alex is a mystery that I wanted to understand and solve. Kate was someone I felt I wanted to protect and be nice to. Elena is ...someone I want to put in place and f-ck the shit out of and then dump her. 3 very different 'feelings' which is a GOOD thing. Yet none of this is even close to happening, because we're just getting FLUFF for content for over a year now. Any other proper storytelling that's gone on for this many years would've already had at least 2 of the 3 main girls 'banged'. But here we are with the typical SuperAlex method, drag it out for SO godly many years, and cram in several naughty scenes towards the end. This and LM are two VNs that people REALLY shouldn't bother with until it's finished. If people are still alive after the godly many years of development(with zero progress).

I agree with you. Alexandra really seems to be full of doubts on the character plot. Where does she work? Did she link the plot with other characters when she was not at home? Her relationship with the protagonist is sometimes obedient and sometimes icy. This makes the characterization very contradictory, and there is also the problem of ai painting, which is simply not a painting style with the original! I hope alex will notice these problems.

The number one rule in development is keep it simple and I take this as your moon lighting project on the side. In the Dev world that have recently retired from the first and formost way to plan a project and in my world it is excepted and agreed upon you proceed of course the customer will always come up with things to add and the way around that is either an extension and additional contract to the project. In most cases they back off or you get them to realize that can be done in a future version with a new contract. The same applies to you as you perhaps came up with things you did not think or advice that seemed right at the time. However each time you implement something new it forces your deadline to expand. My tip is you need to complete what you started I purchased on steam your locked in and once you quit a project you will do it again and again. Keep it simple but finish what you started thats my advice coming from the Dev world and above all stick to your first plans as there is always room for a version two at a later date.

Yes, it's a good game, but it was clearly too ambitious from the start. It's a classic mistake in the development of ambitious narrative/erotic games (especially 3D or semi-3D visual novels): you start with a grand vision, underestimate the time each asset takes, and end up trapped for years. Many projects of this type end up in development hell or are quietly abandoned.

so no more story hot scenes? for me the freeroam scene is too short if it longer i mean in some action its way better. unless chapter 2 come out but when its going to happen can you give the timeline? and if you start the new game u have to build up all the heat with the girls again (as i see in your LM and Amnesia which making your games have the hottest scene and action for me) but with your lacking energy when you take too much time you will struck in the develop circle loop and it going to nowhere. all i want is more story hot scenes with 3 girls before you end the chapter 1 if not as you mention there will be night scene in the next update make it worth for fans of yours.

Well, if I'm honest this game needs to be finished or put as high priority even if another project is started and the reason for that is just trust. I enjoy amnesia and so do many others, but personally I don't trust you to finish this game let alone another project. The amount of money that has been collected for amnesia this game should have been finished over many times and personally I won't support another project if this one is not completed and SOON. I don't care if you have the best visual or animations out there if I can't count on you to finish a game in a reasonable time why should I continue to support you??? The remaster should not have happen if this is how you felt because all that time could have been used to finish the first game.....

First the remaster which was unnecessary in my opinion now this. I think making a couple good scenes with each of the 3 girls before you start on the next chapter would go a long way with your supporters. 6 years of waiting is just ridiculous. Your for sure one of the best game devs out there. If you absolutely have to end this chapter and start another one let's end this one with a bang....literally.

Hi Alex, I understand how you feel and that after such a long time, the excitement has kind of “faded.” But I want to tell you this: Even if the game mechanics aren’t the most modern, Amnesia—and especially the rework—is one of the best games I know, and I’ve been following and supporting it for many years. I’m always excited to see an update. The characters, in particular, are really great. (I especially love Kate, Elena, Eva, and Iris) I hope you find the time and energy to finish Amnesia so the game gets the conclusion it deserves. I hope you find a way to make sure it doesn’t take another few years, so you stay motivated. Maybe it would be a good idea for Episode 2 to focus more on the story and not include too many free-roam scenes. So, more of a visual novel style? Maybe even leave out the stars? I wish you all the best and I’m really looking forward to the story continuing and some hot scenes coming up. :-)

F

Okay, let's begin: 1- The remaster made no sense. Finishing Chapter 1 over a year ago instead of working on this version and starting Chapter 2 with the new ideas you introduced in the remaster was the right decision. It's a shame you don't want to listen to the feedback from those who are paying for the project because we would have made it crystal clear. NO REMASTER IS WORTH IT UNTIL THE PROJECT IS FINISHED. 2- For the development time Amnesia has had, the game's completion percentage is alarmingly low. Is it around 40%? This in itself isn't a problem; the problem arises because we already know each other from the Lucky Mark era, and the excuses begin: "I don't want to spend 10 years on a project," "My creative vision is being stifled," etc. This is a basic aspect that's addressed when the idea for a project is first conceived; it's called pre-production. It's no good thinking about it four years after starting and restarting the project, only to then say two years later that I'm creatively exhausted. 3- After investing over $200 in updates to support development and much more for a hypothetical future, if this game isn't finished in a normal way, without rushing the ending, you can say that "your career as a developer is a failure." Two projects with the same signature: ambitious, deep beginning with mechanics that we could say are unnecessary, a rushed middle section, and an abrupt ending. 10 years of success xD 4- Given the project's current state, and with the sole purpose of helping you with development, we suggested you consider the value of the updates. Even though I pay for them to support development, I fully understand that $30 + tax is disproportionate to the content, and the paywall for lower tiers is the worst decision that could be made. I still believe that reducing the price or removing the paywall so that someone who wants to or can pay $20 doesn't have to wait 7 days, or increasing the development time for each update and providing more content, would give those $30 worthwhile. All of this is to gain more visibility within the community and attract new users who will follow and support the project. 5- Finally, something good. The project still has incredible potential. The character design is, in my opinion, some of the best I've seen. The renders are exceptionally high quality, and the traditional animations are also good. You've started using AI to help improve the animation quality, and you're one of the few who use it quite well. There's room for improvement, but that's normal with any new tool or technology. I also understand your fears about not wanting to be tied to a project for a decade or more. I think it's a good idea to bring in new artists through the academy who will develop the game's core content in the future, leaving you with a supervisory role and, in specific situations, the opportunity to return to working as an artist. That's why I hope you've thought this decision through in time and don't burn out too soon, because it will take months, if not a years, before you can disengage from the project as you wish. And now for a reflection: I'm someone who enjoys the erotic visual novel industry. I don't support every month because money isn't unlimited, but I do support between 15 and 20 projects. I've seen projects fail due to lack of income, lack of support, bad decisions, or because the developer simply leaves the industry. I've also seen smaller projects slowly but surely get ahead, and after everything I've seen, this would be one of the projects I'd be most heartbroken to see fail, especially since it's the same mistake twice, especially when it was avoidable. My friend, focus. The project is entering its toughest phase of development, but also the most fun. You'll need all the help you can get, but if you start making good decisions regarding development, I think you won't lack for it, starting with mine. Cheers

Hey Alex, thanks very much for being so open and candid with your audience. Good communication is always appreciated, especially in creative projects where people become emotionally invested over many years. Your project was actually one of the very first I ever played. It’s strange to think that since all those years back, I’ve also created a business albeit in a different industry.. Time really does fly.. Your game remains one of the handful I still actively support, because I see the passion behind what you do. It only takes a second to recognise when a creator truly cares about their craft, and it’s obvious to everyone with an eyeball that you hold yourself to very high standards. I’ve actually avoided playing the remastered version so far to save the experience for when it’s fully complete. I know it’s going to be fantastic, and I have enough faith in your work to continue supporting the journey till the very end. Regarding the two projects simultaneously idea: fully supportive. Many passionate creators do this. Sometimes it’s about refreshing creative energy, sometimes it’s simply about changing scenery mentally for a while. Human beings naturally need variety, especially when carrying a long-term creative burden. And if exploring something new helps preserve your passion and stamina for Amnesia in the long run, that’s simply just a smart and sustainable direction! Also, can AI help? I don't know, I use it in my work every day but I'm no artist. Wishing you all the very best, Alex. Looking forward to hearing more news in the future. P.S. one thing I’ve learned as an intrapreneur is that there will always be a percentage in the audience who criticise no matter what you do. That's essentially a fixed cost of creating publicly. Focus on the signal and not the noise, take care!

SUPER ALEX · May 18, 2026

Thank you! That is incredibly valuable advice and such a warm message. And yes, AI is helping more and more in development—we’re doing our best to keep up and use it wherever possible.

Congratulations, fellow developer! Best wishes for a successful completion of this project and I want to ask you something! Is it really so hard to find normal artists to create a game so that you can work as a team and not waste time training artists from scratch? Judging by the situation in the detailed description of fellow developer T4bbo about the development of the game Burning Boundaries! He stated that he found himself normal artists thanks to which the process of creating content will now be accelerated: increased: and the quality will improve. Below is the description in which he talks about exactly this. you can view it. Team expansion I am also very happy to officially announce that Burning Boundaries is no longer a solo production. I hired a very experienced duo of performers: Vertex Bunnies. They bring 15+ years of experience in 3D and 2D art production, with strong expertise in: DAZ3D Blender Awesome Designer Substance Artist AI-powered Workflows They also have some absolutely monstrous hardware setups (multiple RTX 5090 /RTX 3090 production rigs), which means we can significantly speed up rendering, animation generation, and production with AI. Some examples of their work are included in the preview images. This is a huge step forward for the project.

It looks like he recently released his game on Steam and now has enough funding to afford high-quality international talents. I actually did the exact same thing back then—after our Steam launch, our team expanded significantly. However, over time, those artists left due to burnout or a lack of improvement in their quality. I hope it works out better for him than it did for me.

Hello dear ALEX, first of all, it is very good and important that you can admit the problems encountered in the current game development. Many game developers do not have the ability to admit mistakes! Causing his work to abort or permanently shut down. This is very angry and painful for friends who have always cared about their works. Secondly, amnesia works shouldn't and can't be abandoned, and you admit it. At present, the development of game plots is very slow and difficult. You mentioned that you should recruit more partners to complete this artistic work, which will undoubtedly prolong the time, but it will also make this artistic road go further. I support you. In addition, as for the star system in the game, you also admit that it is a little outdated at present. I want to change my mind. My suggestion is that we should consider the type of visual novels. There are also many excellent types of works in patreon. For example: love and temptation or the house of the heart! These can provide reference for your future game development! For the future rendering effect and capacity of the game, please do a good job in plot development, character modeling and rendering (yes, Alexandra's chest size and nipple modeling) and polishing effect! These three points are very important for amnesia! The size and resolution of the game require the team to carefully consider whether to add 1k or 2k compression. The last question, for amnesia, it has gone for such a long time, please don't end it hastily, it is worth you and us to untie the last veil, please promise us! As the proverb goes: a good work needs time to polish! I look forward to your future updates! From a loyal China fan!

I'm seeing more and more Ai games that are quite small in size yet huge once you play them. Apparently we're at a point where Ai itself can drive and create the animations as the story progresses. It's an eventuality that Ai games will be the standard, maybe this route can enhance what you stated above?

S
SUPER ALEX · May 17, 2026

I is definitely the future. We already use it for animations, and the quality will only get better. As for static renders, we don’t have a reliable solution yet to generate art that matches our specific style and existing in-game locations.

S
SHREDDER1876 · May 17, 2026

Hey Alex, I have been playing this game for years now and I think your hitting the same wall most Dev's do. From what I know most of them take some time out to make another game in the same universe. Or maybe also go playing some of there dev friends games and other games to have a break and maybe inspiration. They may also fully take some time off and go on a holiday and recharge, then while resting have there sub- conscience thinking of things to move forward with that they go righting down in notes to use when they come back. Point is you don't want to burn yourself out, yet the event star system and other stuff you find have over complicated the game. The event star system is mostly like a Video Gallery once the skill level is increased, raising the stats on the mc.

S
SUPER ALEX · May 17, 2026

I’ve tried that too, and it definitely helps for a while. Unfortunately, at our current pace of development, the recharge just doesn't last very long.

You shot yourself in the foot by starting a remaster that wasn't needed, especially when the game was still very much getting into the story. You have said you have the plan and the scenes, it seems, but then got too focused on making the game in your mind visually better, know one really gave a shit about that. The game already looked good, before you decided to go down the route of starting again, and just polishing a game that still didn't really get into the explanation of what was going on, story-wise... You have made things SO much harder for yourself when you don't have the manpower to make a god-tier visual game, at best you have a small number of people at a time working on it from what I gather, from what you say... You have the story you have enough to make what you have planned come to life, and start to make sense with the story. I say "STOP" worrying about " better, better viduals/ or trying to make something perfect". Just simplify and more manageable, which should then help your mood while developing the game, because you not having to be so critical about every little thing.

S
SUPER ALEX · May 17, 2026

S
SUPER ALEX · May 17, 2026

I wish it were that simple. If I ruined the rest of the unreleased story and just rushed out some hot scenes, sure, it could be done. But that wouldn't be a decent ending.

S
Sonata · May 17, 2026

I already asked this back then, or at least I think I did, when the remaster first released with its initial update. Why did you even decide to create a remaster in the first place, especially one that, visually speaking, wasn't really necessary in my opinion? If it was about the writing, sure, I could've understood that because the original version definitely had some issues there. But now you've basically written yourself that the remaster ended up making the situation even worse in some ways. Too many resources are going into free roam scenes. The game is still a sandbox. Those two things alone eat up an insane amount of resources and stop the game from progressing where it actually matters most: the story. Honestly, I think the remaster would've made far more sense if you had turned it into a kinetic novel that simply focuses on telling the story in a more straightforward way. That would've pushed the project forward much more efficiently and probably much faster too. That's why I think you didn't really do yourself a favor by starting a remaster while leaving the core problem areas of the game untouched, or even expanding them further, like with the star system. Those are unnecessary roadblocks that keep the game from moving forward with a pacing that actually allows it to eventually reach a conclusion. And that's what genuinely interests me: why didn't that realization already happen during the planning phase of the remaster? Because these problems honestly feel very obvious. If a game has been in development for this long, aren't those normally the kinds of conclusions you'd naturally arrive at? Or am I oversimplifying things too much here? Because that was immediately my first thought when the remaster got announced. Why add a star system? Why keep the sandbox structure? Why continue spending resources on free roam scenes? Just turn the whole thing into a kinetic novel and remove all the extra systems, and suddenly the game becomes much leaner and more effective in what it's trying to achieve. That's the thing so many sandbox-style AVNs struggle with: pacing. So many of these projects run into exactly the same issues. And honestly, I'd hope that for a future project those kinds of lessons would maybe be taken into consideration. At this point Amnesia exists in this remaster form the way it does now, and I think completely reworking it again would probably just kill the project entirely. But I'd still genuinely love to hear your thoughts on why you decided to implement things like the star system or keep sandbox and free roam mechanics despite them still being such massive brakes on the game's progression. I think everyone here loves the three main love interest models. But people have also been starving for years to finally see things properly progress with the main character instead of constantly getting teased over and over again. And yeah, sorry, I'm repeating myself now, but the systems that were implemented or kept from the original version are honestly just massively holding the game back.

S
SUPER ALEX · May 17, 2026

I completely agree with all your points. When I started "Amnesia," the whole game was built around those relationship stars and FreeRoam mechanics. With the remaster, the plan was to keep that core identity but polish the writing and visuals, thinking it would be easier since the framework was already there. It looked great on paper, but in reality, it just created massive performance issues and a severe artist shortage. To put it simply: completely changing an established concept is way harder than starting a brand new game from scratch. Remasters and reworks just aren't worth the time, and I’ve learned that lesson the hard way. I won't be making that mistake again in the future.

S
SUPER ALEX · May 17, 2026

Right now, there is actually only one artist who can keep working on the project. That’s exactly why the Academy is so necessary. As for what happens if it doesn’t work out—we just have to start and see. We need to take this step to truly understand how to move forward.
