[Announcement] Business Plans (+ cheaper tiers)
As some of you know, I had to open a company, essentially a solo proprietorship here in my country to acount for all the financial support you guys have given for the project (thank you!).
That has led to some tax considerations for me, and I had to find an accountant to work with, to sort everything out.
Every time any of you get charged here on Patreon, that's a taxable event for me now, and I have to generate a bill with relevant data for each. There's thousands of these things, and I haven't kept up on those because I didn't really know I had to do it (not really business-first-minded), plus I was so focused on making the content, so I kind of neglected considering taxes...
Anyway, due to all the support from you guys, I'll probably be doing this full time by next year. But... for the type of business that I have (solo proprietorship, uses flat rate taxes, with those being conditional to staying below a certain gross income threshold), if I go even $1 over the max limit of gross income, I'll be pushed into another tax scheme, and I will then have to start including VAT to bills, and atop that, will effectively be taxed nearly 3x as much. That is batshit crazy to me. It only makes sense if you're making a lot lot more, are making up expenses to artificially lower the profit, etc.
So yeah, if things keep going as they are in terms of support, I'll go over that limit.
I'd rather work a little less, and make a bit less money, but keep more of it.
Also less stress, which leads to higher quality.
So, I'll be making all the tiers a bit cheaper - details will be in a seperate post :)
Due to having to spend all this time figuring things out with the accountant, summer gallivanting, and the 1080p downport I have to do, I'll also be pushing the release back a bit, presumably by about a month - into October of this year. It should also lower the income for this year.
I know this one won't land that well with some of you because it means more time to Episode 6 release and you've been sallivating for that Anon/Suzie/Cee trio and other sharing/exhibitionism content.

Just do what the rich people do. Make a shell company in a tax haven, like Ireland or some island country, then hire yourself as a contractor for that company and pay yourself exactly as much as you want. Dont forget to add expenses like health insurance or whatever, which will provide you benefits while reducing your tax burden. Hell, with your industry you might even be able to expense some trips to a strip club lmao.
Caribbean islands mainly, or South American not sure, also dont know if Cyprus and Malta are into it or not but worth checking too.
I'm pretty sure Patreon collects VAT? Just look up Patreon VAT, you will find the support pages about it. Your patrons are customers of Patreon, not of you directly, so the only taxable event is when Patreon pays you. Just set it to auto-pay every month so you're not doing anything weird like delaying payment for tax reasons, then write down those payments.

The US also kills small businesses or solo-ran businesses with taxes. It's really aggravating how they think they deserve such a large chunk of the money you're making while providing nothing at all of value back to you.

Some countries just kill businesses with taxes but some rare countries can do this while on top of that make the life of creators a pain by over regulating everything. You are overtaxed to pay those who overcontrol you.
So if an accountant is tracking what is being paid for your game, he should also be able to track possible deductions; home office billable hours(Time spent making the game, including rendering, translating, etc.) Those should be deductions.
my type of s.p.'s revenue is regarded as 80% deductions (up to a certain limit of revenue), which is why it's so good, and it'd insane to go over the limit if you're not overshooting it by a lot.

I guess all of us, who are interested in your story, do know, that it needs to have a financially sound backing. So feel free - like NoMeme said - to take more time for updates to get all ducks in a row. I'm supporting another novel, where the developer did run into legal issues and needed to redo a lot of the images in the story. Better be on the save side of all these topics. It is not only fun, can get fast into topics, you do not like to have.

Hey man, you might want to consider switching accountants — it seems like he's as lost with taxes as you are 😅 As a fellow AVN creator (and former VAT lawyer), I’m happy to walk you through the basics if that helps!
Yeah, maybe things are different in BCG’s country, but in my country it’s almost always the case that when someone reduces their income to avoid paying more taxes, it just means they don’t actually understand how marginal tax rates work. There are of course some real exceptions where there’s a narrow income band where you lose out on some benefit of low income without making enough extra to compensate for the loss, but it’s usually not an amount of money that’s worth trying to game the system over.
